The Watch cottage is one of the most well loved and iconic cottages in north Pembrokeshire. It sits on its own, up a private lane, far away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. It's a perfect romantic retreat as there's so much privacy. It was built over 300 years ago and has such thick stone walls, that even in the roughest storm you can't hear the wind! It's in a perfect location, six miles from St David's, with its shops, restaurants and beaches, including Whitesands. You are a mile from the harbour of Porthgain, close to the world-famous blue lagoon at Abereiddy and probably the best beach ever - Traethllyfn. The visitor's book is full of love for this very special cottage. It's probably the smallest cottage in the world, so perfect as a romantic retreat.
It's just undergone renovation. The original beams and ship-lapped wooden walls and ceiling are painted in Farrow and Ball paint, local artists' work adorns the walls and welsh pottery & rugs are sourced from Solva & Melin Tregwnt.
I've been holidaying in this part of Pembrokeshire since I was a baby. Luckily my husband fell in love with the place and even more luckily we were able to buy the Watch - a very special and unique cottage. We know all our lovely neighbours up our secret lane and would spend most of the year here if we didn't have to work elsewhere!
We love the fact that the cottage is in such a special, secluded location, away from the hustle and bustle - especially in high season. But we also love the fact that it's so close to all or favourite beaches, coves, St David's, the cliff path, the Shed fish restaurant at Porthgain...

"What a magical place. We didn't miss television once."
A great place to stay with a lovely sea view. Close to St Davids and the Welsh coastal path so a good base for walks. It is small but very comfortable, well furnished and welcoming. It is on a small country lane but easy to find thanks to the excellent directions provided by the owner. Only downside was that we did not want to leave! Two good restaurants in nearby Porthgain (particularly the 'Shed' bistro). Would certainly recommend it to friends.
Well how beautiful is this amazing cottage...the whole cottage has a calm ambience and the fires just glowing make you feel instantly calm... No tv, no clocks (we had no idea what the time was!), just birds singing and the odd horse neighing... We didn't see a shop for 4 whole days either, loaded the car with slow cooker, food supplies, wine and ciders. That was us for 4 wonderful days.
This cottage is the most amazing tranquil place on earth... Go there... It should be on everyone's bucket list...we are going back in the autumn... Can't wait.
Thank you Alexandra for being a kind owner of an amazing cottage.
Linda and Chris.
It was a real treat to stay at the Watch House. It is one of the most unique and romantic places to stay in Wales, a cosy unaltered 18th century pembrokeshire cottage, there are very few remaining. The view of the sea from the patio and front door was amazing and no wonder it was originally built to look over the sea for smugglers. We had a memorable stay and had lovely sunsets and then cosy evenings by the log burners. I will definitely come again.
We filled the car with plenty of wood, fine wine and champagne and set off for a celebratory weekend at The Watch. We were greeted by a gently glowing fire and warm bed - felt at home immediately! Loved being mobile free, wifi free, TV free, children free, dog free and away from work! Great walks, great food, great setting and great company. Thanks for a memorable holiday - only complaint it was too short!
Beach within 10 minute walk. World-famous Pembrokeshire coast path within 5 minute walk.
One of the local beaches listed in top ten UK beaches: http://uk.travel.yahoo.com/p-promo-2893897
We don't provide a cot or any baby facilities, but are more than happy if you want to bring your own.
For food shopping, St David's (6 miles, ten mins drive) has a butcher, green-grocers, deli and a small supermarket - plus a fabulous WI market on a Thursday morning. The Shed restaurant in Porthgain ( 5 mins drive) has a fresh fish counter and the house next to the Sloop Inn sells fresh locally caught crab & lobster. For papers, milk, fresh pastries etc the petrol station at Square & Compass (2 miles, 7 mins drive) is really convenient. Fishguard (7 miles, 15 mins drive) has a co-op, Tesco metro and a baker. Haverfordwest (15 miles, 30 mins drive) has a Morrisons, Tesco (that does online delivery), Aldi, Lidl.

We're happy to negotiate for short breaks or last minute offers at quieter times.
I ask for a deposit to secure the booking, then balance six weeks before, when I send the directions etc. I prefer bank transfer as we live in the sticks, but if you're worried a cheque is fine.
Friday changeover, but in low season, especially if only booking a short-break, this can be flexible.
Notes on prices: this website has recently added a 20% "service fee", so it looks like our rates have gone up. They have not! If you pay me direct I will not add on the ridiculous amount of money that the company is trying to make! If you look under RATES this gives the realistic price (without the 20% that they add on).
Prices include all electricity and hot water. Starter pack of coal and logs also included. Short breaks from £225.
