Overview

Photos and Description of this Begur holiday villa

Villa with fabulous sea views, solar heated swimming pool above Aigua Blava Beach

Very spacious self catering detached villa with fantastic sea views overlooking Aigua Blava bay. The villa has a number of very large terraces facing into the bay so the sun is maximised all day long,. There are five bedrooms and four bathrooms in the main house and there is a 'studio' which is not rented separately in which there is a further small double bedroom, small siting room and shower with WC., The main living area is open plan with an American style kitchen so very user friendly. There are three separate dining areas with BBQ on two different levels so lots of choice for al fresco eating. The pool terrace is spacious and well furnished with sun loungers and deck chairs, a table and chairs and even a poolside bar, all you need to do is stock it !!! This villa really is ideal for large groups who love to entertain and BBQ.

To the side of the house off the dining room there is a small terrace which leads to the covered terrace to the front with the outdoor dining area. Here you will find a fixed charcoal bbq and for extra convenience also a very large gas bbq. There are plenty of utensils and dishes so eating in is a popular choice with our guests. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Local Food and Wine: This area is renowned for its great food and wine.

El Bulli was best Restaurant in the World for many years and during that time many young chefs worked in their kitchen. There are now a number of wonderful restaurants in Catalonia owned and run by these former students of Ardrian Ferran.

Apart from these 'top end' places (which if you ask David or Phil Fleming about they will be happy to fill you in) local Catalan food is excellent. Prices are exceptionally reasonable and a basic 10/15€ menu del dia can be a fantastic culinary experience.

The local markets have wonderful fresh fish, shellfish, vegetables and fruit if you wish to dine at home or take a picnic to the beach.

Wine here is also great with a wide variety of styles and prices. Cava tasting is a must!

General notes: The heated pool is 8m by 4m & 2m deep, and is maintained at at least 25°C between April and September we decided to heat the pool as it used to quite cold before July & after September. We provide you with a comprehensive 'Welcome Book' for the villa which contains all the information you need, such as restaurant reviews, directions to all of the beaches, information on local markets and towns, children's activities, and instructions for all the appliances. The internet access is by satellite and is wireless. There is a DVD player, please bring your own DVDs there are some. There is a charcoal and a gas BBQ on the upper terrace beside both the dining room and the covered terrace. There is a washing line for drying clothes on the terrace under the pool.

There are a number of steps at this villa if you or a member of your party has restricted mobility please check with us first before confirming your reservation and we can advise whether this villa is suitable.

Golf, cycling, riding and walking: For the golfer there are a number of local courses within a very short distance. At Pals there are two good courses and at Emporda one of the best courses in Spain. There is no shortage of choice in this region with courses to suit all levels from the most challenging to the more forgiving. It is up to you. Club hire is available in most places and it is relatively easy to organise tee times.

There is a very friendly English speaking golf society locally if you wish to take part in any of their competitions that is easily arranged.

This area has a large number of well mapped and signposted designated walking and cycling paths. We can arrange hire of mountain bikes for you by the day or by the week. Discover the hidden Catalonia off the beaten track through tiny medieval villages, vinyards and fields of wild lfowers, rice, wheat and sunflowers. Heaven on earth!

We can arrange riding for you or simply a quiet hack along one of the beaches, through the forest tracks or countryside.

Activities for children: The local autority in Begur and in fact most of Catalonia are very aware that a happy child on holiday is the key to happy parents.

Almost every evening throughout the summer there will be something for children to do in Begur between 7 and 9 pm. Of course that doesn't mean your children have to go home at that time. In fact most Spanish families are only thinking of coming out at that time. Restaurants are used to children dining with their parents at any time of the night and children are welcome everywhere.

At the park in Begur there are bouncy castles inflated from 6pm, there is usually some 'activities' in the church square and on some evenings dancing for all ages from 8 to 80! Good fun for all the family.

Please read the terms and condtions for rental in full on our website before you make a reservation. Thanks!

About Costa Brava Connections SCP

We are a couple in our 50s who bought this villa as a holiday home and hopefully somewhere to retire to in the future. We haver adult children who live abroad and we find this is the ideal place to take time out together as a family. We are an active family who love the sea, sailing, swimming and most watersports. We like to cook and love good food and wine, so find the local ingredients fantastic with lots of choice in the daily market in Palafrugell though the supermarkets are also excellent particularly for fish and shellfish. We have discovered lots of amazing local wines at reasonable prices and often take tours of vinyards nearby. We tend to BBQ quite a lot at home as the views are so beautiful and watching the boats sailing into the bay fascinating. There are some fantastic restaurants in the area if we do wish to go out. They range from tapas bars to really upscale restaurants with very reasonable prices compared to home. We also love to walk and cycle particularly in the less warm months. May, September and October are out favourite times when the days are still long, it is warm and not too hot to cycle. There are lots of paths all well marked and signposted with distances.

Costa Brava Connections SCP purchased this villa in 2004

Why Costa Brava Connections SCP chose Baix Emporda

When we walked in the door and saw the view we knew this was a special house and the one for us. At the time it needed a lot of work so we have renovated it substantially with new bathrooms, kitchen etc., We are always doing something to make it more comfortable and upgrade it from year to year and at this stage feel we have almost done. - that is until my wife thinks of another plan!

What makes this villa unique

This house is an ideal house for a large group and we have had it full on many occasions with friends and family. We have spent Christmas and the Spanish Little Christmas of the 'Three Kings' here with three generations who all enjoyed every minute. The culture is different and we love discovering new areas, medieval villages, festivals etc., there is always something to do. In spring the wild flowers are magnificent. In summer you can always find a shady, quiet spot to sit and read or simply be.

Villa L'Escala is close to Tamariu so for the walkers amongst us a stroll to the seafront for the newspaper and a coffee watching the world go by is a delight. As you can tell from my description we just love it!

Guestbook comments from the manager

This was our third visit to Villa L'Escala with our friends. We come to play golf every year and have made this our base for the past three years. We love that it is within such easy driving distance to a number of different courses. The weather we have found on our visits in in May and June is fantastic for all outdoor activities. This year the sea was warm when we arrived (compared to home)and the pool being heated helps a great deal to entice you in.

The walk to Aigua Blava beach at the bottom of the hill and is a lovely going down..... and we have seen people jogging back up but it is worth the effort to have a post perandial at the beach before the walk back up the hill. After which we found ourselves glad to have done a big shop and not moving out at all we were so comfortable. We just loved doing a bbq and dining al fresco with a glass of vino enjoying the sensational view.... sorry we have to go. Great Villa, Great Views, Exceptionally comfortable with all we needed for another Really Great Holiday! We'll be back!

What a place!! we had a superb holiday

  • 5 of 5

What a place! we had the most amazing holiday in this villa. There were 10 of us in total from all over the place having a family get together to celebrate our parents 50th anniversary. Most of tThe family came from Switzerland and Germany so from much colder climes than the sunny Costa Brava or indeed Florida where we call home. They all drove down and within a few short hours were in the sun. Our family ranged in age from seventy something to teens.

The villa is on the top of a hill and has great views down to the sea. We saw a pod of whales in the distance and were astounded at the ever changing vista. The villa itself was very spacious, clean, bright and well maintained. There was everything we needed in catering for our group. Some of us are interested in cooking and enjoyed using the local mediterranean ingredients bought locally in the market. The fish and shellfish was wonderful and choice was a treat even for those of us coming from the USA. We found the kitchen to be well equipped, lots of saucepans, crockery and there were plenty of serving dishes etc.,

We found that the villa was so comfortable we didn't really want to go anywhere else. There are lots of outside terraces, no real garden as such but that was completely understandable when you see the terrain. There is a games room under the villa which the teenagers spent hours upon hours in when the pool terrace was too warm in the midday sun.

When we could drag ourselves away we spent our time walking the coastal paths and cycling inland near Peratalada (on David's advice). The countryside is just beautiful and we were lucky to be there for the wild flowers.

The people who look after this villa for the owners are very helpful, friendly and efficient. We couldn't ask for better service they were just brilliant. Thankyou David and Phil !!

We hope we don't have to wait unti our parents are married another 50 years before we get to go back!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your great review. You picked a great time to come to the Costa Brava. In May/June there is normally a wonderful climate for getting out and about. I understand from David that you really did a lot of walking and cycling. This area is perfect for walking in May,June and again in September and October , it tends to be beach weather in July and August. I am glad you found cooking enjoyable lots of people come and don't cook at all. The restaurants here are so good and so reasonably priced that it is often easier to eat out. For 'foodies' this area is really impressive and as you mentioned the raw ingredients are wonderful. Not to mention the wine to accompany the food! We try to make the villa as comfortable as possible and this year have added to the kitchen equipment and have made some upgrades since you were here in May so hopefully it is even more user friendly and comfortable. Thanks again for your positive feedback and hopefully you will make it back again.

Best visit yet great villa with amazing views!

  • 5 of 5

Our all adult family have been coming to this villa for the past four years. Every year we notice new additions and upgrades. This year there is a lovely new dining terrace to the side of the house beside the dining room. The views are absolutely gorgeous, we spent hours watching the world pass by on the sea below us. This villa is exceptionally spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped. The owners are obviously cooks as there is everything you could want in the kitchen. The house has lots of outdoor space with a small garden to the front but we tended to spend time on the terraces particularly the pool terrace where the little bar has a fridge to keep drinks cold. A big thing for us too is the beach later in the year is very quiet, particularly mid week and the water always warmer at the end of the summer. We always walk down and back in the evening when it is not so warm (we feel the work out coming back up justifies a beer). From day one the agency who looks after this villa for the owners has been wonderful. We have had minor problems over the years and they have been on hand to help out as quickly as possible. This year we locked ourselves out of the hire car.... need I say more? All sorted for us in less than an hour. David is a 'hands on manager' who takes a real interest in making sure we have he most up to date info on best restaurants etc., Would we recommend it? Maybe not as we don't want it booked out when we want to come back :-) Our only negative is that we can't get back until next year! Roll on 2016...

Owner's Response: Thank you Mark and the family for a great review. I think the fact that you are back for a fourth year in a row and already talking about next year says it all. Every year there is money spent to upgrade/update the house and this year as you rightly say there was a new terrace to add to the outside areas. It is a big house and we are concious that at times people need their space so strive to make that as comfortable as possible. You are the perfect guests, love the area, love the house, love the service we provide. We are delighted that you enjoy this villa so much that it has become a 'home from home' and really look forward to seeing you again in 2016.

Our third trip to Begur we loved this house

  • 5 of 5

Every year for the past three years, since our first visit we have returned to Begur. The villa we have rented was not available by the time we tried to book it so Phil from the agency Costa Brava Connections suggested this one as an alternative for our extended family of 12 people.

It was just a great choice for everybody. Our teenagers could walk to the beach and back so were happy. The house is very spacious with lots of different outside areas so gets the sun all day and has shady areas too. The pool terrace bar was a great hit with a fridge for cold drinks etc., The house itself was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. There is a huge BBQ which kept the whole family happy :-) The beds are comfortable and having four bathrooms in the house is a huge plus when getting ready to go out. As in previous years our booking process was flawless and David a mine of information on the latest places to eat and things to do. We loved l'Arc in Palafrugell for really upmarket tapas, Somentent also in Palafrugell for tapas and of course the restaurants in Begur are too numerous to mention but we haven't had a bad meal in our three years! We were lucky enough to arrive for the Feria which was amazing with street food, lots of dancing, Cuban music and of course Mojitos. An amazing holiday in a fantastic location. We have already booked for next year we didn't want to leave with the possibility of not getting our dates/house next summer.

Great house, wonderful location, excellent choice!

  • 5 of 5

Just back from the best family holiday in years. This villa was ideal for our family group. The location is wonderful, the house very comfortable, clean and well equipped for large self catering groups. The area was amazing offering everyone in the group something to see or do from cycling, walking, golf excellent restaurants etc., We would thoroughly recommend this villa and the agency that we rented through. The customer service experience was exceptional and we would have no hesitation in recommending them and this villa. If we could give our holiday 10 stars we would! We are planning on a return visit.

Lovely villa in marvelous location

  • 5 of 5

A family holiday spent in Begur in July prompted a return visit with our golfing friends in early October. The house we stayed in earlier was unavailable so we chose this villa. We had such a fantastic experience with everything going so smoothly in July, from the initial request for information, booking, arrival, the information David gave us, our departure etc., was handled so professionally and seemlessly we felt we were valued customers. We asked the agency for a suggested alternative and Phil recommended this villa which was perfect for us. The pool was heated which was also a big help in making our decision. The climate was wonderful for golfing, walking and cycling. The beach was almost deserted, the water warm, it was just perfect. We found this house to be a real 'home from home' with absolutely everything we could wish for and more. There are two bar-b-qs one traditional wood burning and the other a large gas monster! After very active days we found the house so comfortable we didn't want to go out. A quick stop on the way back, to the supermarket that had everything including great fresh fish and shellfish, was all that we needed in order to make a fantastic supper. Lots of choice in excellent local wines which needed to be sampled was another reason for staying put in the evening. UK TV (as well as 100s of international ones) kept us up to speed on what was happening in the world. (Football scores etc). All in all if you want a really comfortable, spacious villa with wonderful views in a beautiful location at a reasonable price this has to be a good choice. We highly recommend it and have already chosen our week for later in the year.

The villa was a first for our golfing friends who had never been in the area before and also had never rented a villa. We have all agreed this was the first of many repeat trips both to the area and to Villa L'Escala.

Great villa in Beautiful Location

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family of three generations absolutely loved this villa. The views are truly amazing from every room which all face towards the sea. The house is spacious and there are lots of places to sit and relax both in the sun and shade. It felt large enough that we didn't feel overcrowded though there were 12 of us, yet when we wanted to meet for meals etc., it was comfortable with lots of options both on the upper and lower terraces. We didn't tend to eat inside - didn't want to waste the sun or the view. There was a choice of bbq and seating areas. The pool terrace was great with a drinks fridge behind the bar a great bonus. Wifi was a plus for us in order to keep in touch and to look up things to do etc., tho there is a good guide in the house and David, who looks after the villa for the owners, was helpful with up to the minute local info on restaurants etc., All the beds were a good size and comfortable (we have found this to be a big problem with other villas in the past). The number of bathrooms also helped particularly with teenaged daughters. In the kitchen we had everything we needed including picnic ware for the beach. Overall there is nothing we needed that wasn't there. The house was very clean and tidy when we arrived and a mid term clean was much appreciated. We enjoyed our stay in Aigua Blave so much that we booked a return visit at the end of the season when I got an unexpected weeks holiday. This time to a smaller villa run by the same company. This was also excellent. It is very easy to deal with the agency that look after this property, we found them helpful, friendly and efficient and have already booked our holiday for 2014 back to this villa again. It seems to get the dates you want, it is necessary to book early. Also book Pa I Raim in nearby Palafrugell for 5 star food at 2 star prices. Can't wait to get back to Begur!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for such a postive review. We are so glad you liked this villa enough to come back. You are begining to feel like locals! We love Pa i Raim in Palafrugell too, it is a little pricey for an everyday meal (considering a 'menu del dia' lunch starts at 6€) but worth it for special treats. There are lots of great places nearby if you want to find authentic food at relatively inexpensive prices. Looking forward to your return next summer. We will have the list of restaurants up to date! Aigua Blava is one of the finest beaches in the Mediterranean with soft white sand gently sloping into the sea it is a fantastic beach for families with small children. It is the jewel in the crown of all the beaches in the area and widely acknowledged as one of the best beaches in Spain. The villa is at the top of the hill behind the beach and has the benefit of also being close to Aigua Gelida cove and Tamariu bay. There are lots of restaurants and bars in the area and Begur, which is the nearest town has something for everyone. For those of us with an interest in fine food and wine it is heaven! There are markets nearby with fresh fish, meat, fruit and veg open every day. There area lots of small bodegas only too happy to share their latest vintage. For the history buff in you nearby Roman ruins, for the children, every night something in Begur, the water park, toy museum. For the art lover the Dali museum and Castle. N.B. You need to have a car to enjoy this area and this villa.

Other Activities: excellent restaurants, tapas bars, medieval villages and historical sites

Golf: There are numerous local golf courses. Within a short drive you can play Championship courses at Catalonia PGA, Emporda, Pals Beach, Serres de Pals, Mas Nou to mention just a few. We can also arrange for you to play with English speaking golf societies if you wish.

There are also some excellent par 3 course around if you wish to practice your short game.

Clubs and buggies can be hired and are readily available if you don't wish to bring your own. We can arrange tee times in advance for you if you wish and put together a 'package' of courses for you. Please ask Phil Fleming of Costa Brava Connections who will be happy to help.

We find it ideal for our younger guests. We STRONGLY recommend that you have a car to enjoy both this villa and the area. Please take time to read the terms and conditions on the Costa Brava Connections website. If you have a particular issue please ask before you make the reservation. If we feel this house is not what you need/want we will tell you and hopefully offer you an alternative that will suit your party. We want you to enjoy your holiday and hope it is an experience you would wish to repeat in the future.
