This much-loved & excellently-equipped homely house is 50 yds from the water's edge in Lower Town - the picturesque setting for films like Under Milk Wood and Moby Dick. The old harbour is now used just for pleasure craft and is directly on the 188 mile Pembrokeshire Costal Walk. Enjoy your complimentary bottle of wine watching the sun go down on the amazing harbour just yards from the house! Pembrokeshire has the highest number of Blue Flag beaches in the UK. Below is an outline of the rooms in the house, as this is often something which guests are keen to know before their stay.

On the ground floor there is a large dining room/entrance hall with seating for 12 people plus a woodburner which is lovely during the winter, a large sitting room complete with comfy sofas, TV, DVDs, wifi etc – there is also a bar tucked into the corner, which is a throwback to the house's past as a hotel! Also on the ground floor is the kitchen which is very well equipped with everything you'll need during your stay, including plenty of fridge/freezer space. There is also a boot/coat room off the kitchen which is perfect for walking boots etc. Towards the rear of the property there is an outhouse/utility/storage room which is great for muddy wellies, storing beach gear etc. Off this room is the back yard which has plenty of tables and chairs for guests as well as a BBQ with complimentary charcoal in the summer months. Downstairs there are also 2 extra toilets which are the bathrooms from when the house used to be a hotel/pub and are useful if you don't fancy a trip upstairs!

Family holiday
dark furniture and carpets, giving the overall impression of gloomy! The lounge and top front bedroom are subjected to vehicle headlights. Shutters or Venetian blinds needed. Kitchen well stocked, curtains around units need updating. Lovely courtyard and the two master bedrooms . Overall, needs updating.

Fabulous house, fabulous location!
This is one of those places that you almost don’t want to tell anyone else about, because it’s just so good! The location is perfect for a relaxing holiday. it’s a lovely walk around the harbour in the evening, perfect for a bracing swim in the morning, an excellent crabbing location to keep the kids entertained and lots of stunning beaches just a quick drive away, with a handy cafe to stop in at just a stones throw from the house. The house is perfect for an extended family, with everything you could need, including the best board games selection we’ve seen in a long time. It is kitted out perfectly, with lots of thought and space for everyone and has a lovely unique character. The bar was a particular favourite feature, as was the private courtyard outside space. There’s a comprehensive information pack that tells you everything you might need to know about the house and the area. We couldn’t have found a better location and can’t wait to find an excuse to come back again!

About the host

Hosted by Richenda Hine

Host profile image
We are Nick and Richenda Hine, the owners of The Dinas Arms. We have been coming to Pembrokeshire since the mid-90s when we bought The Dinas Arms. Richenda is Welsh and mighty patriotic! We both have a passion for the area and have taken great pride in seeing Pembrokeshire develop into such an amazing destination over the last 20 years. The plethora of restaurants, galleries, great foodie shops and things to do in the area have increased 10-fold. It's great to see that Pembrokeshire really is the "New Cornwall" (but better, of course...). We have been letting the Dinas Arms since 1996, but for the last few years we have kept the house just for family, only starting to re-let with Owners Direct in August of 2012.

Why they chose this property

We bought the house way back in 1996 after falling in love with Lower Town which we thought was the most beautiful place (it is one of the most photographed harbours in the UK). The poor old Dinas Arms had fallen on hard times and was standing derelict as the former fisherman's inn of the village. We could not believe that such a big house in the centre of the famous village (rumour has it that Richard Burton drank here during the filming of Under Milkwood...) was standing empty as such an eysore and acted fast! We took pity on the old hulk and with the help of some great local builders we sympathetically transformed the house with love, care and attention into a warm and cosy home from home. Of course the house has been updated and refurbished subsequently to keep it up to date – most recently in June 2015 we have refurbished both the twin room & double room ensuites, which now boast travertine tiling with modern showers, W/C, heated towel rails and sinks.

What makes this property unique

A great feature is the large storage area off the kitchen which has outside access, great for storing outward bound equipment. Richenda has a keen interest in interior design and antiques, so we hope you will agree that this is reflected in the decor of the house. She's a keen cook, so the kitchen is well equipped, whist Nick makes sure that the original bar feature of the Dinas Arms which is still functioning is fully stocked with glasses and vintage pub finds. We're sure you will like playing 'barman' with the old optics as much as our friends and family have over the years. But if that is not your scene, rest assured that there are lots of books and DVD's to keep guests occupied. A complimentary bottle of wine and flowers on arrival & handsoap in all bathrooms are provided for guests. Additionally, for Christmas bookings, we provide a fully decorated Christmas tree to add to the festivities.
