About this property

Lodge style home on 140 acres. Remote but close to much! Hot Tub, Pets

This property is unique in that it is remote yet near so many places. The master bedroom is downstairs with a private bath, private sitting area with television, king size sleep number bed, and a private deck with a large outdoor hot tub. Four bedrooms are upstairs connected by a common den with huge vaulted ceiling and each bedroom has its own private vaulted ceiling. ( those cuelga are a recent upgrade) Each of those bedrooms has a very comfortable (1) king, (2)queens or (1)double bed. There is a 46 foot screened porch on the front with plenty of sitting room including rocking chairs and a porch swing! There is a large deck off the back dining room as well with a table, chairs and a gas grill. Everything you need to make a perfect getaway in Central KY. The open space and extra-wide interior doors make it easy for wheelchairs. We also have a portable ramp to use for the 2 steps up through the garage into the house if needed. The entire house is very open with extra tall and vaulted ceilings and lots of exposed wood. Spacious kitchen with all amenities you would want. As we are near Shaker Village we have decorated the house with Shaker-style furniture and primitive American decor. This is the perfect place to gather with family or friends and enjoy nature while being close to so much!! The fire pit outside is a guest favorite! After a waiver is signed we can arrange for use of the hot tub and for hiking. We can recommend a great place to fish as well! (our pond unfortunately has NO fish!) You are also invited to stroll up and down the scenic half mile paved driveway.

Minimum nights during winter season might be flexible.

Great views with a lot of space and wildlife
The house is a really great space for larger groups. Plenty of space for groups to visit in 3 sitting areas, including one in the master bedroom. The views from living room and screened porch are fantastic. The house was clean and beds were very comfortable. Lisa was extremely accommodating for us and the check in/out procedures are the easiest I've had with a VRBO property. Overall just an excellent experience.

About the host

Jamie and Lisa worked, saved, and dreamed for 18 years before finding and acquiring this farm. In 1998 we then built our "dream home" on the farm where we raised our three children. When the last child went off to college we moved to Central America to do volunteer humanitarian work which then turned into employment. The farm was a working Angus cattle, then warmblood horse breeding operation until Lisa's health necessitated we stop. At this point, we removed most fences and turned the farm "back to nature". Wildlife abounds as one would imagine. We commonly see many species of native KY mammals. Half the farm is wooded and the other half we mow once annually ( we let it grow up for the wildlife). Because of this, at times the fields may be tall with grasses and native plants. There are hiking trails on the farm, but one needs to work out arrangements with the owner before hiking and sign a waiver. The half-mile asphalt private driveway is also a great place to walk with a view. Because Lisa has chronic illness and pain she feels that comfort is very important. All of our beds and seating is set up with that in mind. You won't find more comfortable bedding anywhere!

Why they chose this property

We believe this farm is the most beautiful place on earth. Though we are probably a little biased, our past friends/guests comment on how peaceful and beautiful the home is as well as the setting. Back in the 1800s and early 1900s, there was a "stagecoach house" on the property and it was the place folks spent the night before crossing into Mercer County by going over the KY River. Unfortunately, the previous owner took down the limestone rock house, but we were able to use some of the stones as a foundation and skirting for the home we built. At least one Revolutionary war relic has been found on the property. We understand the Shakers used to cross over the KY and come to the "Indian Creek" grist mill to grind their corn, which is borders the farm.

What makes this property unique

For Lisa, my favorite place on the farm is the front porch swing. When recovering from a very difficult time of life this spot was my "special place". You can see for miles from the front porch or the back of the house. It is a great place to spend the 4th of July because you can see the fireworks from 3 different counties! We have memories of foals and calves romping, a lush garden, and canning much of our own produce. Our son used to have his friends over to go into the woods for hours and do "paintball" Our kids would often bring their sleeping bags to sleep on the floor in the great room by the wood stove in the winters. This is a very unique and spiritual place!
