Our gite's are located in the peaceful village of Asnieres sur Vegre. The village has been voted one of the most beautiful villages in the Sarthe region. In the heart of the village you will find the River Vegre spanned by a medieval bridge complete with shaded banks. Asnieres is nestled with 15th to 17th century houses all adding to the charm of this pretty little village. We also run the local cafe 'Le Pavillion' serving lunch daily and evening meals via reservation. We offer afternoon drinks throughout the day and a selection of tempting Desserts, or simply a pot of tea or perhaps a cocktail.
We are a family run business which consists of myself Mark, my wife Nina, my mother in-law Liesa, brother in-law Ross & his wife Laura. We want our guests to have the best possible holiday experience in Asnières and for our guests to experience the laid back easy going lifestyle Asnières has to offer. We moved to France in 2006 and have never looked back. Asnières is a small peace of heaven and after a day of moving here we felt like it was home. We have been accepted by all the locals and help is always at hand. Our daily routine is always different and we wouldn't change it for the world. As well as running our gite business we also run the local cafe and provide food and drinks for locals and tourists.
Mark COFFEY purchased this bungalow in 2006
While we were living in the UK we decided to combine Nina's birthday and looking for a property in France. We looked all over France from small holiday homes to chateaux but when we came to Asnieres the pure beauty and charm of the village won us all over instantly. We all enjoy being out in the countryside and also we know we don't have to go to far for life's everyday essentials.
Our gites are on the same grounds as a 15th century Manoir house with superb gardens, stunning views across the river Vegre and most of all privacy. There is also nothing better than at the end of the day to sit in the garden or at the pool with a nice glass of wine and a BBQ.
Hope you received the keys on our departure on Saturday.
We had a lovely stay and thoroughly enjoyed the accommodation and the location was excellent! A great set-up which was ideally suited to what we needed!
A perfect location for our first overseas family holiday. The accommodation and facilities were excellent. The pool was clean and well maintained. Food at the Pavilon was great value for money. If you are looking for a family friendly quiet location this ticks all the right boxes.
We had a fantastic stay in the Wisteria gîte and would highly recommend it to anyone.
We thought Asnières-sur-Vègre and the surrounding villages were beautiful, some of the most well kept places we have seen in France. The gîte was lovely and clean and had everything we needed. The showers were powerful and the beds were comfy. Lots of areas to eat and drink around the gîte - some in the shade, which is great in the blazing heat. The swimming pool and the whole pool area was wonderfully clean and there were comfy sun lounges and huge umbrellas to shade you when needed. We played boules, ping pong and plenty of card games in the shade of the pool house.
There is a huge supermarket just 15 minutes away which was really useful and had everything we needed. We spent one day away from the pool and took a trip into Le Mans. We visited the 24 hour museum and then headed into the city to go shopping. We were really surprised at how lovely Le Mans was - such a beautiful old town and lots of boutique shops as well as many large high street shops.
On our last night we visited La Pavillon and had a superb meal with some lovely wine which was a great way to end the holiday. Mark and his family are wonderful hosts and they provided us with everything we needed for our stay.
We had a wonderful time at Mark and Nina's home in asneries-sur-vegre it is a beautiful and peaceful place very relaxing enjoyed many walks around the village, kids loved the pool and the pool house with barbecue was a great place for everyone to get together. Our gite was lovely had everything we needed, lots of space inside the gite and outside for the kids to explore we will defiantly be returning to this beautiful little place in the world x
I would like to thank Nina and Mark for the fantastic week we had at Le Pavillion in Sable Sur Sarthe. The amenities are very well maintained and clean.
Our children had a blast in the heated pool and in the playing area.
Good access by car to different castles, Le Mans and other very interesting villages in the Sarthe area.
We definitely recommend this accommodation for families with children.
All the best from us :), and we will try to get back sometime soon.

Asnières-sur-Vègre is absolutely stunning and mustn't be undersold. With a wealth of history, beautiful architecture and friendly locals (bonjour Bernard!) it immediately gives you a sense of somewhere wonderful; it's no wonder that it is one of Le Sarthe's Plux Beaux Villages!
Basse-cour reflects this history and sense of location; a collection of historic village buildings greet you on arrival, with the gîtes set to the rear of the property.
Wisteria was a lovely, immediately homely place to stay. Spotlessly clean, flawlessly maintained and furnished very comfortably, it really was a home-from-home. Even with a two-year-old in tow, anything we could think of was catered for including a nice cot (as opposed to the travel cot you might normally expect). With five adults and two children, it provided more than ample space for us all, even on the wetter evenings we had.
The pool is a lovely area, with a nice little play set for the children set away from the pool also.
We saw Mark and Liese mostly during our stay, who couldn't have been more helpful and very friendly. We had a very minor issue with a sink on the first day, and it was fixed whilst we were out; couldn't ask for more! The only downside was we managed to pick one of the wettest Junes on record in which to visit!
As I mentioned, the area is a lovely place to stay. The village and surrounding area is stunning. We visited Angers for the first time which is highly recommended. We also visited Le Mans, Chateau du Lude and La Flèche; all of which we have visited previously but would recommend.
We will be visiting again, and would definitely recommend Wisteria/Basse Cour to others; especially families.
Just a short drive from Asnieres you will find two man made lakes complete with sandy beaches. The first is in Brulon where there are public BBQ facilities, tennis courts a mountain bike track and a bar/cafe. The second beach is located in Chantenay which is also a short distance away. The lake is popular for fishing (at one end) and swimming (at the other end). The gites are roughly 2 hours from the nearest coast located on the West coast.
