About this property

Attractive accommodation with south and west facing gardens, close to Sutton Hoo

Butley is a small village lying between Woodbridge and Orford. The house, which sits in a secluded south facing garden, is in two parts; an old cottage built in 1778 and a more recent extension built in 1990. The house is ideal for a family or equally a couple or two. There are 3 large bedrooms, that can provide either 2 double rooms and one room with 2 single beds, or 1 double room and 2 rooms each with 2 single beds. There is one bathroom and one shower room.

There are walks and cycle paths straight from the front door, an extensive array of historic sites, nature reserves, golf courses, sailing and riding clubs, beaches, pubs and restaurants to visit as well as world renowned music and dance at Snape. There is something for everyone. Wifi is available, ideal for working remotely, calm and relaxing. The Oyster Inn has recently re-opened, so there is now a lovely pub with good food, and small shop within a few minutes walk of the house.

The film The Dig (2021, Carey Mulligan and Ralph Fiennes) features the beautiful Butley river, the foot ferry, pier and the ruins of a brick building on Boyton Marshes. These hidden places are all within walking distance of the house.

Covid 19
To help reduce the risk of spreading the virus:

* we have stopped taking back to back bookings.
* we have implemented an enhanced cleaning regime
* we ask our visitors to wash their hands with warm soapy water regularly and
particularly when entering and leaving the property
* we ask our guest to use hand sanitiser when visiting local amenities.
* we ask our guests to bring slippers and use these only on the ground floor and not
take them into the bed rooms
* we ask our guest to remove and fold their used bedlinen and leave the bed rooms
aired

We hope these interventions will help to keep all users of the house in good health.

Lovely cottage
It was a lovely stay. Exactly as described. Miranda was great at sharing details, clear instructions in the property and a lovely home from home space with everything we needed for a short weekend stay.

I am a working mother of two. My children love walking and exploring. Our cottage provides a home away from home, perfect to get away from the stresses and strains of work and school. It provides us with a place to spend quality time together and unwind. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

My grandmother used to take my sister and I and various friends and partners away to Suffolk. After she died we continued the tradition ...

What makes this property unique

Wonderfully quiet and dark nights (when there is no moon). Fabulous night skies. Exceptional pubs, bakery and fresh fish at Orford. A Norman castle. Sutton Hoo. Walks and cycling straight from the door. Wild swimming from Butley pier. Music at Aldeburgh. Birds on the estuaries and at RSPB Minsmere. Wild snowdrops, blue bells and daffs at Butley woods. Tide Mill and golf course at Woodbridge.
