Swallow Barn in Selside, Nr. Kendal, Lake District, Cumbria, England - Peaceful Location, Great Views, Convenient For Kendal, Short Drive To W'mere

The detached barn displays a wealth of interesting and original features with original timber roof structure, thick stonewalls, stone flag and solid oak floors. The garden areas are extensive with well-stocked borders and distant views over the surrounding fells and Longsleddale valley (The Lake District National Park). There is enough private parking for at least 3 cars. The barn is situated next to the original Grade 1 listed farmhouse and is only a 10/15 minute drive from Kendal/Windermere. All rooms are furnished to a high standard with co-ordinating fabrics and many personal touches throughout. The accommodation offers central heating, real cast iron log burner, entrance hall, 3 bedrooms, bathroom, utility room and first floor open plan living/dining room kitchen. Outside there is a large garden as well as mature planted borders, patio areas and summer house. WiFi available unlimited internet useage and phone for incoming calls and emergency outgoing calls. An initial basket of logs will be provided for guests during autumn or winter bookings. All terms and conditions are as detailed on owners web site and as emailed to guets by the owner at the time of booking (these prevail over any of the owners direct t&c's / commitments)

Live in the north west of England with my wife Andrea. We love the lake district and enjoy walking there. Swallow Barn is an excellent place for exploring the lakes and the yorkshire dales. We have a lady who lives locally and looks after the change over and cleaning for guests. She is excellent. She lives near to Swallow Barn and so is immediately available if any problems occur. Swallow Barn is home from home and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

It is in a superb area which is quiet with beautiful views onto the lake district national park fells. You can walk from the door step to the national park. We love the traditional lakeland stone built construction and solid wood and flagged floors. The Lake District is so beautiful and peaceful.

Notes on accommodation: Living accommodation upstairs, bedrooms, bathroom on ground level. Small pets considered for bookings - please ask at time of enquiry - If prearranged with the owner, our requests are that dogs sleep in hallway/utility room, are not permitted in bedrooms or food preparation areas and that you thoroughly clean up after them daily (especially if they have been on the field/garden). Please don’t leave them unattended at any time at swallow barn. If they are outside please ensure you close the gate to swallow barn and take all measures you need to to contain them within the grounds of the property. £50 extra for pet staying. Access given from 4pm on arrival day and vacate by 10:30am on departure day unless agreed otherwise with the owner at time of booking. The neighbouring garden and children's play equipment is private and must not be used at any time by guests/their children who are staying at swallow barn. Outside: Outside there is a large enclosed garden as well as mature planted borders, patio areas and summer house. Ample private parking for 3 cars, timber country gate to entrance. Garden is fenced all round and is safe for children/families to play out. Beautiful views onto the fells - the lake district national park. Important note on privacy to neighbours/near by property: The neighbouring garden and children's play equipment is strictly private and must not be used at any time by guests/their children who are staying at swallow. Utility Room: Slate floored utility room is available for guests' use with combined washer/dryer machine, freezer, storage space and drying racks, cloaks hanging area and radiator. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bed linen included. Towels are not included, tea towels are provided. Swallow Barn is cleaned and bedding is changed before every guest arrives. Some dishwasher tablets are provided as well as scourers/cloth for washing up. Other: Covered outer porch with an attractive welcoming entrance with stained solid timber front door, stone flag floor, beamed ceiling, latch style solid timber doors to all rooms & timber staircase leading to first floor

What a beautiful cottage to stay in

We stayed a week here would have loved longer, the cottage as everything you need to have a great holiday and is in the ideal location, on arrival everything was beautiful clean and well laid out will definitely be booking again

Loved every second of it, real home from home

Upon arrival we were pleasantly surprised. The home has everything that you need for a relaxing stay. We had 2 children and a dog (pre organised with the owner) all had their own areas where they could be themselves. The extra touches meant everything to us there was everything you could need and more. Would like to visit in summer so we could sit outside and admire the views. Thanks again!!

Relaxing break

Swallow barn was a great place to get away from it all. Everything we needed was there, plenty of space, lovely and clean. The garden was great for the kids to have a run about (on the dry days!) A good base for exploring the lakes.

Excellent Place to Stay

I spent six nights at Swallow Barn with my teenage daughter and we both loved the place. It was definitely a real home-from-home and we were very comfortable. We both slept 10-11 hours straight on the first two nights!

We especially liked the quiet setting, and walking down the lanes enjoying the beautiful tranquility of the surrounding countryside. Chatted with the local lady who looks after the place (sorry, I can't remember her name!) and she is really friendly. We had no problems with the place, but I'm sure if there was any issue she would be very helpful. The location is ideal - it feels out of the way yet is easily accessible and only a short drive into Kendal and about 20 minutes to Windemere/Bowness.

The barn has everything you need for a great stay. I'd definitely go back again and have already recommended it to others. Thanks for a great holiday! :)

Lovely barn - home from home

We have just returned from a lovely weekend at Swallow Barn. We have been to Swallow Barn 3 times in the last few years and have thoroughly enjoyed every visit – we have even been blessed with snow on the last 2 visits.

Swallow Barn is really like home from home – every eventuality catered for…..good selection of kitchen equipment/ logs for the fire/ games for the kids

Furnished to a high standard and easily accessible as it is just off the A6

Lots to do in the area – some lovely walks and pretty towns and villages to visit.

The owner, Ahmad, is very helpful. We visited in the aftermath of the floods in Kendal and he made sure that we were aware that the bridges in the town were out of action and diversions were in place.

If you are looking for a relaxing break, out of the way but not too far from civilisation, I would highly recommend Swallow Barn

Kendal - 3 miles, approx 5 min drive. Windermere - approx 15minute drive. Boats on lake for pleasure cruising and steam railway at Haverthwaite near Newby Bridge (approx 20min drive from Swallow barn).

Further Details:

Retail park, morrisons, NEXT etc 3 miles away (5min drive). Very convenient. Heating:- The heating boiler will be set to automatic mode for guests. If you would like to turn radiators up just open valves on radiators in rooms that you will be using. Please use heating reasonably and wisely and we kindly request that guests don’t leave heating on 24/7. The price you pay for swallow barn is reflective of reasonable usage on all utilities (central heating and water). Water is on a meter so please use water wisely too. We appreciate your understanding and help in this matter. The broad band router can be used for wifi internet access if you bring your tablet/ipad/lap top etc that’s wireless enabled – the wireless name and password is on the back of the router. If you plan to use the internet at swallow barn please use it with fair and reasonable use and please respect our wishes and do not visit any unsavoury web sites!
