What to expect? Very unique accommodations LIKE NO OTHER - This rental is a large folk art museum and honky tonk and includes a private bedroom, a full private bath, and on occasions shared - a full kitchen, living and dining spaces, and a large screened porch and outdoor gardens...

The Folk Art Honky Tonk is at the center of Cajun and Creole culture, only minutes away from the prairie lands and bayous to the Atchafalaya basin and beyond. Why stay in a boring hotel when you can save money and experience a unique and authentic cultural & artistic environment? Don't hesitate, book now.

Our guests are completely independent. We welcome them and strive to make their stay and local experience memorable and comfortable. We respect their privacy, as we expect them to respect ours.

We live in an area that is highly populated by artists and we love having many artists as neighbors.

We are in the countryside of historic St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. We are the perfect outpost - a cultural crossroad - between Austin/Houston/Dallas/Nashville/Memphis and New Orleans. The Folk Art Honky Tonk is set way back off a small country highway and surrounded by farmland, so it is often very quiet - except for the birds, the occasional cow bellow, or farm equipment at work.

We have many artists come up from New Orleans to get away and experience rural Acadiana and its inspiring creative energy.

We will let our guests express their experiences:

"We have been raving about our stay since we left. They immediately gave us fantastic selections for places to go in the area. They made sure we were happy with our accommodations. They kept in contact while giving us all the privacy we needed."

"Jim and Christy are the most wonderful hosts. They are truly ambassadors of the area."

"Jim and Christy are warm, welcoming, and love having people over. Their house gorgeous like out of a movie."

"Truly why we love vacation rentals. Locals who show their lives and make you a part of it. One of those never to forget travel experiences. Definitely go and get a deep dive Louisiana experience!"

"We like to think vacation rentals were created for these kind of accommodations. The location is wonderful but the best part is the hosts. Jim and Christy are amazing people who provide their wary travelers with everything they could hope for. We can advise you this: Go! You will forever remember the experience!"

"Jim and Christy are absolute gems. As hosts, they do everything you can ask for and more - they provide you with the true South Louisiana experience. Regardless of if you're staying in the house, the barn, or the Whirlybird, you're in for a treat."

"Wonderful outpost to explore the best of Cajun land, or simply rest at home and take in peace and quiet in an inspired and thoughtfully created residence."

"To say that Jim and Christy are wonderful people would be an understatement. Their property is beautiful and you can tell they really care about preserving the houses and land."

"Jim and Christy are at the core of the local community and are very generous in sharing their time and experiences. You really couldn't hope for better hosts!"

"The house and the grounds are magical."

We loved staying at the Honky Tonk! It was eclectic and funky, but super fun!
It was a pleasure staying at the Honky Tonk. I love a good antique shop, and this place had an eclectic abundance of cool stuff to look at! We love music, and having our very own venue complete with fiddle, guitars, drum set and piano and dance floor was a hoot! My only problem was I should have read the listing a little better, my bad! I thought there were two bedrooms IN the house, I didn't expect the camper. With one of our party being 6 foot 4in tall, there's no way he could have fit. We ended up taking the matress from the camper and putting it on the dance floor...which worked out great. I got confused between the converted barn listing and the Honky Tonk listing....both have the same photo with the copper pig. Somehow, I thought we were staying in the barn and that all my guests would have their own bed. Again, my bad for not reading the fine print. Jim was fabulous, and we had a really great time! I would definitely stay again, now that I know what's what!

Eclectic Dream
Super fun and quirky! The nearest town of Sunset, Louisiana has wonderful antique stores. The grocery store even has sushi! Easy drive to Avery Island, Lafayette, Breaux Bridge and Washington. The setting is serene and relaxing. The owners are amazing! My only caution is for those with Fibromyalgia, RA or other chronic pain conditions, the bed is very firm, as are the cots. If you need a soft mattress bring somethingto pad them. I loved my stay and want to return. I can't describe how energizing it is to stay in this space. Your creativity will thank you.

Hi, what can we say about ourselves? We are folk artists and educators who think big. We are creating a sustainable cultural/educational compound, where all sorts of meaningful and fun events take place. We are working hard to maintain safe, independent, socially isolated and private places for folks to get away and relax with peace of mind. We are committed to new cleaning and sanitizing protocols.

Read our reviews to find out what kind of experiences our guests find once they book with us. Welcome.

Why they chose this property

Our guests over the years have given us over 400 Five Star reviews here and on other vacation rental websites for their experiences in our unique accommodations. VRBO guests are beginning to find us, now that we are Premier Hosts.

It’s the basics - sleep, toilet and a shower, and a place to make food. WAIT! It's a LOT MORE than the basics. It's our VERY SPACIOUS funky palace dedicated to Folk Art.

We will let our guests help tell the rest of our story:

"This spot is the epitome of the vacation rental experience for me. If you are suspicious because the price seems too low for the size and amenities, don’t be, because it is even more fabulous live than it looks online. We stayed in two of the (currently) three lodging options. We loved both. With the cabin, you have very large bedrooms on either side of a common area, so if you are two couples, you may want to choose that one for more sleeping privacy. With the tower the bedrooms are smaller and adjacent but you have an absolutely massive common area. All spaces are filled with art, a lot of it local, and interesting objects to look at. The spaces are both playful, with unique light switches and hidden lighting options."

"Jim and Christy are absolute gems. As hosts, they do everything you can ask for and more - they provide you with the true South Louisiana experience. Regardless of where you're staying, you're in for a treat."

What makes this property unique

"What a amazing stay we had with Jim and Christy, who are as warm, charming, inviting and as full of rich character as the accommodations they graciously provided us! With well-collected antiques, funky, fun vintage treasures, colorful local art and decades-old reclaimed materials that they've brilliantly repurposed, Jim and Christy's place is full of heart and soul. Thank you, Jim and Christy, for warming our hearts and lightening our souls during our far too short a stay with you. As we said, your place is a destination all its own, and we hope to make it our destination again soon. - Gratefully, Amy and Mack"
