Very peaceful rural location, 5 minutes drive to market town with all amenities

This private property has panoramic views over sunflower and corn fields on one side and the mountains of the Pyrenees to the other. Completely renovated about 10 years ago into a comfortable and much loved home with good entertaining space, and a covered terrace for shady lunches, overlooking the heated swimming pool. Landscaped gardens and a productive kitchen garden provide a peaceful, get away from it all holiday. Entertainments at home include table tennis, English TV with Sky Sport, DVDs, Wii, board games, croquet and WIFI.

About Claire Majendie

It was pure accident that that brought us to this part of South West France. Seeing our house (a ruin) on a bright sunny February day with blue, blue sky and snow-capped mountains captured our heart and we could see the potential. I still work in the media world and James is a retired sub-sea engineer and experimental diver with a myriad of stories of the deep that can't fail to keep you amused. We love being here; the air is so fresh, the countryside so unspoilt yet Toulouse with its hustle and bustle is not too far away. It's an oasis for us and we hope you will enjoy it too.

Why Claire Majendie chose Muret area

Having been a francophile all my life, it was only a matter of time before we bought a house in France. We spend as much time as we can here and love having big friend and family gatherings in a completely relaxed atmosphere with long lunches on the covered, shady terrace overlooking the pool. This house has been transformed over the last 10 years - from a wreck with huge potential and spectacular views into a very comfortable and spacious home and garden. And, if you're lucky you can pick your own tomatoes and cucumbers from the kitchen garden! The nearest town is 5 minutes drive away and has all you might need, including four boulangeries to choose from for that all important breakfast croissant.

What makes this farmhouse unique

This is a truly beautiful and unspoilt part of France - we are literally on the borders of the Ariege and Haute Garonne departments offering magnificent views of the Pyrenees, great walking and riding, Cathar castles to visit, caves to explore, and the beautiful cities of Toulouse and Carcassonne.

Lovely property surrounded by sunflowers

We spent a lovely holiday in this huge renovated farmhouse. Everything was perfect, nice pool and terrace area and a wonderful garden with access to fresh vegetables. Stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The house is fully equipped, well maintained and standards are high.

Lots of possible activities in the region. From hiking in the mountains, canoeing and tree climbing to fine dining.

Lovely markets, artists' village and exploration of caves in the nearby Pyrenees mountains.

Travel:

Toulouse airport is about 45 minutes away, with Carcassonne being just over over 60 minutes. The property is about a 10 hour drive from Calais, 8 hours from St Malo and 2.5 hours from Santander. We are happy to arrange pick-up from the airport at an additional cost

Distances:

A car is a must as breakfast without fresh croissants and bread would be sad to miss. The nearest town with most amenities is 5 minutes drive away.

Further Details:

This is a walker's paradise with breathtaking scenery. The city of Toulouse is only 40 minutes away and is worth spending a day or so exploring, with lots of great restaurants and cafe life. There are lots of markets within easy driving distance and a choice of several restaurants within 15 minutes drive. The famous medieval town of Mirepoix is well worth a trip on Mondays when the market is in full swing. A trip to the Pic du Midi, one of the highest mountains in the Pyrenees is a must as is exploring the Cathar castles around. Our local bastide village has a musical soiree once a week and the art galleries are open for view. Tennis can also be played locally. If zip-wiring between trees or canoeing down a gentle river is your thing, it is all within 15-30 minutes drive. And if you want more adventure, white water rafting, mountain climbing, horse riding and cycling tours can all be arranged.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: For some months of the year, this is our home so it is furnished with the things we love and care about. It is more than just a rental property and as such has a very welcoming and homely feel. Outside: Life in the summer centres around the covered terrace and pool (heated) area, with lots of flower pots scenting the air. A large table and chairs provides comfortable eating space and a Weber barbecue helps get the party going. There are 6 loungers, a wooden bench and several comfortable chairs to while away a sunny afternoon. There is a full size table tennis table on the terrace. Utility Room: Washing machine and large butler's sink, plus wc and shower-room. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels and linen provided, plus pool towels. The property is cleaned once per week when the beds are changed. Owner is close by but not on the property. Other: Formal dining room for 10, off the kitchen. Wide selection of books in hallway.
