Recently listed as one of the '50 best places to rent in the Mediterranean' by the Sunday Times, Trullo Sereno is located just outside the picturesque, whitewashed town of Cisternino - voted one of Italy’s most beautiful places to live. The neighbouring towns of Ostuni, Ceglie Messapica and Martina Franca are all a 10 - 15 minute drive away. The Trullo is set in over 2 acres of private land and is surrounded by olive, almond and fruit trees. It is the spectacular views overlooking the Itria Valley, with Cisternino twinkling in the background that make this property truly special. The Trullo has been lovingly designed to reflect the tradition of the area and each stone in the house has been crafted by hand. The interior of the Trullo has a contemporary feel with a spacious hi-tec well equipped designer kitchen. Outside there is a grand terrace with a dining table seating up to 10 people, ideal for entertaining whilst enjoying the view. A stunning pool with a spacious sun terrace and lounge area is perfect for relaxing in the sunshine. With wifi, sat nav and private parking.

About Phil and Lindsay Timms

We have spent many wonderful holidays in Puglia. We discovered the North of the Province first and loved it so much we decided to travel further South. In 2008 we visited Cisternino and became addicted from then onwards! We have fallen head over heels in love with this area and especially its wonderful people. So much so we were married in the local Church in 2011! Many of our friends who came to the wedding have also fallen in love with this unique place, and have since holidayed here many times!

Puglia is a place of beauty, a hidden gem. The coastlines are unspoilt and the seas are clean and clear. We think the local food and wine are literally amazing - never to be forgotten!

Phil and Lindsay Timms purchased this villa in 2010

Why Phil and Lindsay Timms chose Brindisi

Since our first visit we have been captivated with the area, especially the fairytale style castles called Trullos. We looked at many places over a number of years until a local Italian friend helped us find our wonderful architect and amazing builder. As soon as we saw the land and the wonderful view of the valley with the whitewashed town of Cisternino twinkling in the distance we knew this was the one.

The project has been long and we have poured our heart and soul into Trullo Sereno. The exterior has been lovingly recreated to continue the traditions of trullo making and the lost art of stone masonry. Every stone has been hand chipped to fit perfectly in place. The interior offers everything a family or a group of friends could wish for on holiday. We hope you enjoy your stay.

La Dolce Vita

Fantastic stay at the delightful and picturesque Trullo Serno. Firstly the accommodation – modern, characterful, very comfortable and with every mod con one could desire. The kitchen was well specced and meant that we could enjoy a holiday submerging ourselves in a week of fine food and wine. Phil and Lindsay had arranged for a local chef, Antonio, to pass on a little of his extensive culinary knowledge and we knew we were in for a treat but could never have truly guessed just how much of a special treat this was to be. Antonio accompanied us as we sourced the best local produce including freshly caught fish and prawns from a local quayside and upon returning to Trullo Sereno each day he supervised and guided us as we prepared our daily lunches and evening meals. This review cannot possibly cover the full extent nor the restaurant quality of the dishes but to say that there were some traditional Italian classics such as veal wrapped around parmesan, parsley and breadcrumbs in a rich tomato sauce with tiramisu and panacotta deserts to Japanese inspired sashimi with wasabi, ginger and soy. We also spent one evening making our own pizzas in the trullo’s own pizza oven, having prepared the dough that morning. We were also guided in selecting wines to accompany our meals and having not previously been familiar with region’s wines and not usually been big fans of rose we had been truly converted by the end of the week. Whilst the food was our primary focus Phil and Lindsay had also given us tips on great local places to visit, such as Alborobello, Polignano a Mare, Castellanetta Grotte and Ostuni, and had also arranged for bikes to be delivered to the trullo (thanks to Vito also) so that we could explore and after a climb to the top of Cisternino the bar / terrace overlooking the beautiful Itria valley felt special with a cold glass of local beer to reward our efforts. A truly beautiful villa, wonderful people and an idyllic setting. And a final mention to Angelita, Phil and Lindsay’s property manager, who looked after us with great enthusiasm and for whom our enjoyment was her main priority. A fantastic ‘Italian Job’!

Great for late season sun, food and relaxation

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic 10 days at Trullo Sereno ("TS"), we needed a break after a hectic year with a bit or warmth and some great food and wine and that is exactly what we got. TS was incredibly well equipped and thought out and the three bedrooms worked well for us - one having a day bed as well as double bed so our niece had a bed in the room with her parents. The pool was getting cool as you would expect in October but the gardens were lovely and the position ideal - no distance from Cisternino (really cool little town, not at all touristy), Ostuni, Martina Franca, Grottaglie and within a day trip's reach of Polignano al Mare, Lecce, Matera and so on. TS also has trump card (excuse the phrase given that perhaps no longer has all good connotations) - Angelita! She oversees the management of the property and could not have been more helpful and fun - I highly recommend persuading her to give you a tour of the local olive oil factory - you will never shop for olive oil in the same way again! Thanks TS.

Fantastic Relaxing Family Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We cannot recommend this place enough, we have just returned from a week in this fantastic Trullo. We are a family of five with three children aged 2, 5 and 7 and this place didn't disappoint. The Trullo was well equipped for children, with lots of entertainment, toys and plenty of space for them to play, explore and have fun. Every detail has been meticulously planned which made our stay very enjoyable and as stress free as possible with three young children. The Trullo itself has been finished to a very high standard and was spotlessly clean. The outside areas are particularly stunning with a BBQ and pizza oven which we used nearly every day. It was the first holiday that we have been on with young children that we actually found relaxing, we enjoyed our stay so much that we have booked up for next year. The visitors notes are very useful with plenty of tips, info and recommendations which we referred to a lot during our stay. Thank you Lindsay and Phil for sharing your beautiful home with us.

Beautiful trullo in peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

The trullo and grounds are beautifully maintained and comfortable. We appreciated the detailed guidance about the area, which has lots of interesting villages to discover. We enjoyed the BBQ and the pizza oven - the pool and its surroundings were idyllic. The trullo has been furnished to a high standard which added to the overall experience of our stay. Puglia is an interesting, friendly region with delicious food and wine and Trullo Sereno is a jewel of a place to explore it from!

A fantastic luxury Trullo in the Valle d'Itria

  • 4 of 5

Trullo Sereno is a luxury Trullo with an amazing outside space and pool area that catered for us perfectly as a family of five. It was great to have the use of so many fantastic sun beds and pool loungers and top quality sun umbrellas. We spent much of our time around the pool where we were able to relax totally and then feed ourselves with the wonderful pizzas we made from the pizza oven on the terrace. We bought the dough ready made from Salvatore's in town and then rolled them out and added our own toppings for a fantastic result. Everyone got involved in the process and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Trullo was also wonderfully catered for inside - designed and finished to a high standard and well equipped. We had fresh coffee every morning, brewed in the Gaggia coffee machine, to deliver a perfect morning coffee!

We really had a wonderful, relaxing holiday at Trullo Sereno and need to go back again as there is also still so much to explore.

Perfect trullo in Puglia

  • 5 of 5

Awesome...Amazing....this property took my breath away. High standards both inside and out. Large airy rooms containing everything for a truly relaxing perfect holiday. Beautiful gazebo fringes the bottom edge of the pool and the shaded hammock is too inviting. There are also large comfortable sun loungers. the towns of cisternino and ostuni are not too far away providing excellent bars and restaurants but we were reluctant to leave such perfection. There is also an outside pizza oven and barbecue/outdoor cooking facility. One of the highlights was when the owners Lyndsey and Phil organised a well renowned puglian chef, Leno, to cook a delicious barbecue for us one evening. It was magic and just one example of how the owners definitely go the extra mile to make your stay special. It was certainly difficult saying goodbye to this trullo and it's location. It deserves 20 stars!!

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: The Trullo has been designed by one of Italy's leading architects. He is local to the area and is therefore knowledgable about the history of the Trullis. Having travelled in Puglia for many years and falling in love with the area, it was important to us that our Trullo reflected the beauty of the Trullis scattered on the hillsides. We are therefore very pleased to say that our Trullo has been built using traditional methods of Trulli construction. Outside: The pool is set on the lower terrace. It has an infinity style edge with views of the countryside and the gazebo has comfortable lounge seating so you can relax in the tranquil surroundings. There are 8 large, designer sun beds (padded & very comfortable), with a further 4 modern rocking chairs - ideal for reading whilst soaking up the sun. There are pool toys available for children and outside garden games such as giant Jenga, extra large twister and limbo - suitable for all ages! If you want to really relax, there is a large double hammock overlooking the pool. On the upper terrace you will find the BBQ and another gazebo with a large table for outside dining. New for 2014 is a traditional wood fired pizza oven. Utility Room: Iron, ironing board, mop, bucket, vacum cleaner, clothes dryer Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Pool towels, Egyptian cotton bed linen and bathroom towels are provided. Maid service is weekly, extra cleaning can be arranged. Rental also includes gas and electricity. During winter months there is an additional charge for the under-floor heating. Other: The dining room has a large antique style table that seats 8 and is furnished with handcrafted pottery from the local town of Grottaglie. The wall art is based on the owners love of music and the Yamaha guitar is there for budding musicians to play!
