About Phil and Lindsay Timms

We have spent many wonderful holidays in Puglia. We discovered the North of the Province first and loved it so much we decided to travel further South. In 2008 we visited Cisternino and became addicted from then onwards! We have fallen head over heels in love with this area and especially its wonderful people. So much so we were married in the local Church in 2011! Many of our friends who came to the wedding have also fallen in love with this unique place, and have since holidayed here many times!

Puglia is a place of beauty, a hidden gem. The coastlines are unspoilt and the seas are clean and clear. We think the local food and wine are literally amazing - never to be forgotten!

Phil and Lindsay Timms purchased this villa in 2010

Why Phil and Lindsay Timms chose Ostuni

Since our first visit we have been captivated with the area, especially the fairytale style castles called Trullos. We looked at many places over a number of years until a local Italian friend helped us find our wonderful architect and amazing builder. As soon as we saw the land and the wonderful view of the valley with the whitewashed town of Cisternino twinkling in the distance we knew this was the one.

The project has been long and we have poured our heart and soul into Trullo Sereno. The exterior has been lovingly recreated to continue the traditions of trullo making and the lost art of stone masonry. Every stone has been hand chipped to fit perfectly in place. The interior offers everything a family or a group of friends could wish for on holiday. We hope you enjoy your stay.

Notes on accommodation: The Trullo has been designed by one of Italy's leading architects. He is local to the area and is therefore knowledgable about the history of the Trullis. Having travelled in Puglia for many years and falling in love with the area, it was important to us that our Trullo reflected the beauty of the Trullis scattered on the hillsides. We are therefore very pleased to say that our Trullo has been built using traditional methods of Trulli construction. Outside: The pool is set on the lower terrace. It has an infinity style edge with views of the countryside and the gazebo has comfortable lounge seating so you can relax in the tranquil surroundings. There are 8 large, designer sun beds (padded & very comfortable), with a further 4 modern rocking chairs - ideal for reading whilst soaking up the sun. There are pool toys available for children and outside garden games such as giant Jenga, extra large twister and limbo - suitable for all ages! If you want to really relax, there is a large double hammock overlooking the pool. On the upper terrace you will find the BBQ and another gazebo with a large table for outside dining. New for 2014 is a traditional wood fired pizza oven. Utility Room: Iron, ironing board, mop, bucket, vacum cleaner, clothes dryer Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Pool towels, Egyptian cotton bed linen and bathroom towels are provided. Maid service is weekly, extra cleaning can be arranged. Rental also includes gas and electricity. During winter months there is an additional charge for the under-floor heating. Other: The dining room has a large antique style table that seats 8 and is furnished with handcrafted pottery from the local town of Grottaglie. The wall art is based on the owners love of music and the Yamaha guitar is there for budding musicians to play!

peaceful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Stayed 8 nights early May and although the weather was predicted to be bad, it turned out to be lovely. The accommodation was beautiful and provided everything we needed especially for our 2 year toddler. The owners Lindsay and Phil Timms were perfect hosts and was amazing from beginning to end, providing every bit of information that we needed for a perfect stay AND their property manager Angelita was very responsive and helpful as well. Lindsay recommended Antonio Calella, the most AMAZING chef! Enough cannot be said about Antonio, who our entire family fell in love with and wanted to take home, not only for his amazing food but for being an amazing human being. When Antonio noticed that our car was damaged, he took us to have it fixed at a very reasonable cost (be aware...AMEX insurance does not cover Italy!) and loaned us one of his cars in the interim and refused to let us pay him for it! Simply a wonderful person!

While there is lots to see in the area and a car is definitely needed, we spent ample enough time at the house, eating and enjoying the area. We stopped in at the local store each morning for 'just out of the oven' baked breads and fresh fruit and walked the property for exercise.

We could not recommend the place and people enough!

We stayed for one week at the end of May/early June 17 and we cannot recommend a stay here highly enough. Set in beautiful, tranquil, Puglian countryside, what could be better? It's a perfect location to explore the local area with some lovely local towns only a short drive away (Cisternino/Ostuni) and some others a little bit further afield including some stunning coastal towns that are worth a visit, Polignano a Mare being one of them.

The house itself is simply stunning. All of the rooms are very spacious with a kitchen that is equipped with everything you could need. It was spotlessly clean on arrival and the shopping we had ordered was waiting for us when we got there; this is well worth doing if you are arriving on a later flight.

Outside, there's a large terrace area with BBQ, Pizza Oven and a large table with chairs, this leads down onto the pool area which again is equipped to the highest standard with rocking chairs, hammock, beds and umbrellas. At the top of the pool is another area to sit and chill out.

All of the local people and restaurant owners are very friendly. The nearest take away pizza in the very small village of Pascarosa is nice and owner has some great local beer to try whilst you are waiting!

For eating out, restaurants are plentiful in Ostuni and Cisternino and all very reasonable.

All in all, we had had an amazing stay here and would highly recommend the house. Thanks to Lindsay and Phil for all their helpful advice before and during our stay.

Truly fabulous trullo

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful holiday in Phil and Lindsay's beautiful home. From the moment we arrived and saw the stunning location with the olive trees and white conical roof we knew that this was going to be a great holiday. Angelita was really helpful for advice, restaurant bookings and of course olive mill visiting - we came back with litres of oil!

The property is well laid out with big bedrooms and two bathrooms. There are eating areas indoors (for when it is too hot) and a shaded one outside.

We all loved the salt water pool which is really well maintained along with the garden and enjoyed using and adding to the inflatables! There are plenty of excellent restaurants nearby both in Ostuni, Cisternino and Martina Franca but the kitchen is well equipped should you wish to cook or try your hand to pizzas in the pizza oven.

All in all this was one of the best villas we've ever rented. Thank you very much to Phil, Lindsay and Angelita for ensuring we had a truly memorable holiday.

Perfection in Puglia

  • 5 of 5

The week we spent at Trullo Sereno was quite simply perfect!

From the minute the gate starts to slide back and let you up the drive and you see the roof of the Trullo appear you know that you are in for a magical holiday. The beautiful setting of Almond and Olive tress combined with the impressive outdoor feasting table and the pool side cabana make you relax the moment your foot steps out of the car.

The interior is cool, quirky and chic all mixed up to deliver something that feels like a home away from home. So much thought and attention to detail has gone into making the Trullo feel welcoming, comfortable, practical, friendly and comfy. There is nothing missing from all the kitchen supplies and equipment, DVDs, games, music, towels and kids paraphernalia.

There is enough space in and around the Trullo that if there is a large group of you there is always a quiet space if needed - from the hammock in the trees, the play area for the kids, the amazing pool side rocking chairs or just sleeping on a lounger.

The outdoor pizza oven and BBQ means you can have a different dining experience every night. We had a fabulous chef come to us and teach us how to make traditional pizzas including the dough and sauce - it was an amazing evening!

This and other activities was organised by Lindsey who could not do enough to make our trip the best it possibly could be. From restaurant recommendations, to day trip tips, from organising cycling tours to having a birthday cake delivered nothing is too much trouble. The care and commitment that Lindsey went to to ensure that we had everything we needed and wanted to do was so impressive - I don't think I have ever received a service like it before.

You definitely need a car to make the most of the area and there is so much to see and do - we had the perfect balance of activities and pool side chills! And as I say, Lindsey helped me put an amazing schedule together!

If you want a holiday of beautiful scenery, luxury living and fantastic food then the Trullo and Puglia is the place to go

La Dolce Vita

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic stay at the delightful and picturesque Trullo Serno. Firstly the accommodation – modern, characterful, very comfortable and with every mod con one could desire. The kitchen was well specced and meant that we could enjoy a holiday submerging ourselves in a week of fine food and wine. Phil and Lindsay had arranged for a local chef, Antonio, to pass on a little of his extensive culinary knowledge and we knew we were in for a treat but could never have truly guessed just how much of a special treat this was to be. Antonio accompanied us as we sourced the best local produce including freshly caught fish and prawns from a local quayside and upon returning to Trullo Sereno each day he supervised and guided us as we prepared our daily lunches and evening meals. This review cannot possibly cover the full extent nor the restaurant quality of the dishes but to say that there were some traditional Italian classics such as veal wrapped around parmesan, parsley and breadcrumbs in a rich tomato sauce with tiramisu and panacotta deserts to Japanese inspired sashimi with wasabi, ginger and soy. We also spent one evening making our own pizzas in the trullo’s own pizza oven, having prepared the dough that morning. We were also guided in selecting wines to accompany our meals and having not previously been familiar with region’s wines and not usually been big fans of rose we had been truly converted by the end of the week. Whilst the food was our primary focus Phil and Lindsay had also given us tips on great local places to visit, such as Alborobello, Polignano a Mare, Castellanetta Grotte and Ostuni, and had also arranged for bikes to be delivered to the trullo (thanks to Vito also) so that we could explore and after a climb to the top of Cisternino the bar / terrace overlooking the beautiful Itria valley felt special with a cold glass of local beer to reward our efforts. A truly beautiful villa, wonderful people and an idyllic setting. And a final mention to Angelita, Phil and Lindsay’s property manager, who looked after us with great enthusiasm and for whom our enjoyment was her main priority. A fantastic ‘Italian Job’!

Great for late season sun, food and relaxation

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic 10 days at Trullo Sereno ("TS"), we needed a break after a hectic year with a bit or warmth and some great food and wine and that is exactly what we got. TS was incredibly well equipped and thought out and the three bedrooms worked well for us - one having a day bed as well as double bed so our niece had a bed in the room with her parents. The pool was getting cool as you would expect in October but the gardens were lovely and the position ideal - no distance from Cisternino (really cool little town, not at all touristy), Ostuni, Martina Franca, Grottaglie and within a day trip's reach of Polignano al Mare, Lecce, Matera and so on. TS also has trump card (excuse the phrase given that perhaps no longer has all good connotations) - Angelita! She oversees the management of the property and could not have been more helpful and fun - I highly recommend persuading her to give you a tour of the local olive oil factory - you will never shop for olive oil in the same way again! Thanks TS.
