About this property

Artistic, tranquil cottage. Spectacular loch and mountain views. Sleeps 4

Loch Vatten cottage is quiet, even for Skye, with fantastic views over the Loch and mountains. Few cottages are this near to the water. There are fabulous walks on your doorstep to prehistoric remains (Vatten cairns and nearby Dunbeag Broch are two of Skye's most important sites) and spectacular viewpoints and a secret white sand beach.

You can watch seals basking on the rocks from the kitchen window and even enjoy occasional visits from otters.

The cottage is filled with things we enjoy like nice Cath Kidston crockery, OKA furniture, Crucial Trading rugs, Moroccan cushions/throws, patchwork quilts and original artwork from all over the UK. We hope you like our homely decor and that it makes you feel at home.

Wi fi, TV.

Outside is a third of an acre of enclosed garden overlooking the Loch.

Beaches are a couple of minutes walk away.

There are Adirondack chairs and a picnic table to enjoy al fresco meals.

All linen, towels, soaps and a welcome pack of groceries are provided.

Heating and solid fuel included.

The cottage is in an exceptionally quiet position, down a private track off the very quiet loop road, yet only 4 miles from the shops, pubs and cafes of Dunvegan and 25 minutes from Portree.

Please note, the cottage is looked after by our housekeeper, Angela. We kindly request that you leave the cottage clean and tidy. Angela will be doing heightened cleaning due to Covid and it really helps if you make sure you leave the cottage as you found it, with particular regard to the oven/grill. Thank you.

We are a gay friendly establishment.

REALLY SORRY BUT WE REALLY DON"T TAKE PETS - so please don't ask.

Wonderful stay in an amazing location
After a little trouble finding the cottage, our sat nav took the second turning off the A683 not the first, we loved the quaint and traditional cottage. It contained everything we needed and the hamper that was left was great. The online listing gives the impression that the sandy beach is "just a short walk away" but we found it quite far and drove some of it. Other than that we found everything as described. We had a nightly visit from an owl and deer, at low tide seals were plentyful. We also saw a cuckoo for the first time. As for the location it is great for getting to the north of Skye, in fact couldnt have been better. If we are ever in the area again we wouldn't hesitate to stop here.

Homely and comfortable cottage.
We spent a really nice week in Vatten this May. It was an ideal spot to explore North Skye and close to Dunvegan, where there was a fast, reliable EV charger. The weather was pretty cool for May, but the storage heating coped OK. All the facilities you would expect were there. The kitchen was a bit dated, if that’s a problem for you, but we found everything we needed. There are good facilities for clothes washing. Would recommend.

Nice peaceful location
The cottage is located in a nice peaceful area of Skye with good views of the Loch from the kitchen and garden. The cottage was nice and warm and is in a good location for visiting many of the sites of Skye.

Not all as on the pictures
We were very disappointed on the first day of stay. The cottage wasn't clean. There were layers of dust everywhere. Bathroom was also needed a good wipe. The cutlery and crockery also didn't look very clean. The furnitures were worn out. The whole thing didn't look as good as on pictures. We looked again at them to checked how we could miss all the signs. Then we noticed that there were not a lot of pictures from the inside... The last but not the least, in the house the very strong smell of an old house. Clearly it hadn't had a good clean-up for a while. But it was not all bad. The house is in a beautiful and extremely peaceful place. It is convenient located to visit Skye's attraction, and there are plenty of them. The cottage is quite large and warm. Linens and towels were clean. The welcome pack was nice, especially local jam.

Superb location
Lovely quaint traditional cottage in a stunning location. Very well equipped kitchen and lots of books and games available. I would not hesitate to return. Also my daughter accidentally left some items behind and these were returned to us by post immediately. Great host and great property

We are a Scottish family who love Skye!

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with Vatten Cottage because of its especially peaceful location. We could simply open the doors and let the boys play outside, and walk off in any direction to get a wonderful view of the Cuillins or MacLeods tables. At night there are often fantastic clear views of the Milky Way.

We are all into history and the island is full of traces of a fascinating past. In particular there are many prehistoric remains within easy reach.

What makes this property unique

Location overlooking the water. Down a long track off the road. Cosy cottage with open fire. Original artwork. Spectacular views. Exceptionally peaceful.
