About Helen Braiden

This is a special family home which we use when our guests are not!

Owned and rented by The Braiden Family for the past 13 years.

We have 2 Children who learnt to walk on Perranporth beach and now at the age of 31 and 29 love to surf, walk the coastal paths and relax after their busy lives at work.

The beautiful beaches and coves of both the north and south coast are wonderful to explore.

We so enjoy the peace and tranquility of the village of Rose.

Helen Braiden purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Helen Braiden chose Newquay & St Austell

The Smithy is over 200 years old having originally been the blacksmiths cottage for the village of Rose.

It has been in our family for 11 years and we have had many UK and international guests during this time. Close to the SW Coast path, miles of walking on the spectacular cliffs can be enjoyed, or simply days at the beach.

What makes this cottage unique

The Smithy is only about a mile from the the spectacular beach of Perranporth and is tucked away in the tiny peaceful village of Rose. We have a large safe enclosed garden, for relaxing with a BBQ after a hectic day at the sea!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Mr & Mrs C. Feb 2014 : The Smithy is a charming, deceptively spacious cottage in the quiet hamlet of Rose just inland from the north Cornish coast It is superbly well appointed, warm & comfortable. It is ideally placed for the famous surfing beach of Perranporth, several National Trust properties, excellent eating places & many other Cornish attractions. We have stayed in the Smithy now on three occasions as we love the cottage & this part of Cornwall & hope to return in the future.

Guests ZJ 2013 :'The Smithy is a lovely cosy cottage situated in a quiet and peaceful location. The cottage is full of beach artifacts and other personalized items which gives it such a homely feel. We were so impressed with the large range of reading books and the children loved the DVD collection. There was something for everyone to be preoccupied with. The quality of the bedding was excellent, and the patio and garden were so beautiful to sit in.

A peaceful haven

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful cottage with everything you could possibly want. The owners have put a lot of thought and care into making this a comfortable and homely holiday stay. The garden is magical for children. Lots of little places to play Hide and Seek! The owners were only ever at the end of a phone if you had a query and there was also the friendly housekeeper who lives opposite. We would love to return one day.

Comfortable ,characterful & charming.

  • 5 of 5

A most welcoming cottage with every possible comfort . We have visited for several years now at this time of year & have always found it to be immaculate & obviously much loved by the Braiden family.

Jacky , who lives opposite ,is friendly & helpful.

We love eating at The Bay Tree Restaurant which is situated in Goonhavern Garden Centre. The service is excellent, food is first rate with generous portions & staff helpful.

Our favourite visit for a cream tea is Carnewas . We consider them to be the best cream teas in Cornwall.

Truro , with it's new Waitrose right next to the Park & Ride, is always worth a visit & a long walk on Perranporth beach when the tide is out is my husband's idea of heaven !

Altogether a brilliant place for a break at any time of year.

Hassel free peace and total relaxation

  • 5 of 5

A very straightforward and rapid booking system. The cottage is equipped to a very high standard and gives the feeling of being a home. Jackie the housekeeper, who lives opposite, is to be congratulated on her very high standards..

A great location with wonderful walks to work off the effects of superb eateries. This was our third visit.

Lovely cottage

  • 4 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed our family trip to Rose and staying in your cottage. The cottage has everything you could ask for with a lovely garden, and has a lovely calm feel to it . We all enjoyed the long walks into Perranporth through the golf course and over the sand dunes.

We all had a lovely week and look forward to returning next year .

Thank you Helen .

Perfect cottage, lovely location

  • 5 of 5

The Smithy is a beautiful cottage. It is much larger than it looks from the outside. Plenty of room for the 5 of us. Clean, tidy and very homely. Very tastefully decorated. Every piece of kitchen equipment you could ask for. Garden is huge and very well equipped with BBQ, games, sunbeds and a lovely large table so you can eat outside, which we did. Sufficient off-road parking for 2 cars, so if you have family who want to do different things in different places (as we did), it is perfect. It's a bit of a trek to the beach but there is parking available in Perranporth (arrive early to avoid disappointment) but if you are able to walk, there are a couple of nice routes to get down to the town/beach. The benefit of being out of the town is that it is nice and quiet. I loved it as did my parents and my 15 year old son. I will be very surprised if we do not go back. Thanks Helen.

What a beautiful house in the perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We adore Perranporth and the Smithy was the perfect place to stay while visiting this lovely seaside town.

It's beautifully furnished with some lovely little touches. It's well appointed and has enough space to easily facilitate our family of six. The fabulous collection of garden toys also kept the kids amused in a well kept and large garden.

The owner is an absolute pleasure to deal with and we'll definitely be booking again.
