About Fiona Coulter

I have let Cliff garden for nine years now. We use the cottage as a family holiday home too so I have tried to make it really comfortable and good to stay in. I like to think of Cliff Garden as a home way from home and hope you will too.

Fiona Coulter purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Fiona Coulter chose Truro & Falmouth

Portloe is beautiful picturesque fishing village on the Roseland Peninsula. It has wonderful beaches and cliff walks. Local pubs and restaurants serve delicious cuisine. It is very peaceful yet you are able to travel to all the attractions of Cornwall quickly and easily.

What makes this cottage unique

In the village there is the famous Lugger Hotel that serves great food - perfect for that glass of chilled wine and a crab sandwich and chips for lunch or an a la carte dinner in the evening. The friendly Ship Inn about 100metres away serves great pub food with freshly caught fish specials. The little harbour is ideal for swimming or paddling as well as watching the boats go in and out. Freshly caught crab and lobster is readily available. The house is on the South West Coast Path and so the walks along the cliffs are stunning. The award winning beaches of Carne and Pendower are a few minutes away as well as many others.

Cornish gem

Delightful home with amazing garden and wonderful views. Everything needed is already there and the welcome cake is delicious. Very restful to have no mobile reception but if desperate WiFi is good.

Practically perfect in every way

  • 5 of 5

Though the weather wasn't at its best - what can you expect from an English summer? - which meant that we weren't able to make best use of the amazing gardens we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cliff Garden. The house is well equipped and well presented, roomy for the five of us and dog that were staying, very comfortable and very well placed for exploring the beautiful Roseland Peninsula and other parts of Cornwall. Nearby places to visit include Carne Beach (wonderful cream tea at the Nare Hotel), St Mawes, St Just in Roseland (another wonderful cream tea) and, a little further afield, Fowey (excellent pasty) and Trebah Gardens. We had some exciting moments navigating the narrow lanes around Portloe and Veryan and were impressed by the frequency of the local bus service - except when we met the bus coming the other way in one of those narrow lanes. We wish that we had been able to stay for two weeks rather than one.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your complimentary review and for taking the time to do it. We try hard to make Cliff Garden a home from home where guests can relax and have all they need for a good holiday. One of the joys of the Roseland Peninsula is that there is so much to do all year round in good weather and bad. It is amazing how you can have lunch on the decking overlooking the sea in t shirts in November and watch crashing waves from your comfy bed in the Summer. The garden is a highlight of the property so I hope you can come back and spend more time there next visit.

Highly recommended!

  • 5 of 5

Cliff Garden is a solid, spacious, character house in a fantastic location. Comfortable and attractive, this homely yet stylish property has 3 receptions as well as a large kitchen. There is plenty of room to spread out and very little noise pollution as the walls are thick! Warm when the weather is cool and cool when the weather is hot. The charming garden goes on for ever and is full of surprises. Although it is steep, there are banisters to support your climb if necessary. The views from the front of the house and the garden are stunning. The bathrooms are great too. We loved our stay and highly recommend this place.

All home comforts_with lots of living space

  • 5 of 5

All 5 of us plus dog felt very much at home at Cliff Garden straight away. It was a fair price for a 3 L.R. 3 wc , 2 bathroom home with a great stepped garden in a lovely village.

It's good to know that non residents are welcome in The Lugger for coffee, drinks etc and that the SW coastal footpath walks both east and west are beautiful.

The climate is generally milder than elsewhere in the UK and we were so lucky being able to lie in the sun on the 1st of November!

Thank you Fiona for your kind helpfulness.

Perfect Property

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful house in great location for walks, pub lunches, cream teas and fancy dining experiences - there is so much to see and do nearby, but you don't need to go anywhere if you don't want to due to the spectacular garden views and local places to eat and drink. My husband and I have been twice already and will be booking again. We have taken all our friends and family down and they have booked too - even our dog loves it! Looking forward to our next visit.

A fantastic holiday house!

  • 5 of 5

Cliff Garden is a lovely house which is cosy, but spacious and extremely well equipped. The kitchen has absolutely everything one could need. The bathrooms, en suite and main, are large and were spotless. The shower in the main bathroom is huge! Bedding, towels etc were very high quality. Separate sitting room and dining room, lovely woodburners. 3 bedrooms have loads of hanging space. Large entrance hall and snug which gave amazing space to dry off dogs and people! A garden which towers over the village to give views to die for. All this and a lovely home made cake as a welcome. First class-and helpful, friendly owner to liaise with whilst booking.
