All facilities are completely and exclusively for use by your party only. No sharing !!

Large traditional Farmers Barn converted to a 6 bedroom 3 bathroom property. Original features include ceiling beams and stone walls.

There is an entrance conservatory, large kitchen/diner, utility room and large lounge, downstairs double ensuite bedroom with single bed on mezzanine, 2 downstairs bedrooms one with single bed and one with a set of bunk beds, There is another single bedroom off the downstairs shower room toilet with its own entrance doors.

Upstairs there is 1 double bedroom and 1 triple bedroom with double and single bed, along with the upstairs family bathroom .

Large terraced garden with outside under cover dining, bbq and above ground splash pool.

Convenient edge of village location, a short stroll to the Boulangerie for fresh bread, croissants and pastries, complete with a small selection of groceries, drinks, chilled and frozen foods. There is a restaurant with a bar in the village with a great value lunchtime menu, standard evening menu and pizza to enjoy in the restaurant or to take away (during the week day evenings). There is also another bar/tabac. There is also a post office, a hairdresser, a garage, a large park area, and a church within the village.

In a beautiful location, close to the Marais Poitevin (Venise Verte), Mervent Forest, Adventure Parks, Zoo's, Historical Buildings. Beaches of the south Vendee and the Charente Maritime, La Rochelle, Ile de Re all around 1 hour drive. Puy du Fou theme Park and Futuroscope Theme Park a 1 hour drive..

About The Owner

We have lived here since 2005. After years of hard work renovating our properties we have settled in well and we all really love our life in the Vendee. We live in the adjacent property in order to be on hand for garden and pool maintenance. We do not intrude but we are there if you have any questions.

The Owner purchased this barn in 2005

Why The Owner chose Oulmes

When we first bought the property we saw the potential and have renovated the barn into a large Gite and expanded our home into two other outbuildings.

The Vendee is reknowned for its sunny mild climate. Our location is perfect being very close to the Marais Poitevin (or Venise Verte, a network of canals reclaimed from the sea) and Mervent Forest both lovely for walks, cycle rides, & boat trips. Nearby historical buildings, Chateaux, Abbeys and plenty of villages of character. The coast, beaches & islands of both the south Vendee & the Charente Maritime and beautiful La Rochelle are 1 hour drive. We love the edge of village location enabling us to walk to local amenities including a Post Office, Hairdresser, Boulangerie for freshly baked bread, pastries and crossants. A bar with outside seating selling newspaper and cigarettes. A restaurant with another bar complete with Pizzeria (eat in or take away) & a lovely terrace outside.

What makes this barn unique

The property is completely self contained with its own entrance driveway and parking. There is a totally secluded separate rear garden with splash pool, sun terrace, bbq and dining furniture. Steps up lead to the sun terrace and the lawned garden. Entrance from the conservatory or bottom kitchen door to the adjacent private large heated pool and open barn, bar, games and seating area.

All facilities are totally private for your party only.

We loved our property on first sight. We saw huge potential in lots of old buildings & outdoor space ripe for improvement & conversion. Over time we have converted the large barn and the other outbuildings into additional accommodation.. We have installed a large inground heated swimming pool, and along with large shady gardens, a children's play area, an undercover games area (Boules, table tennis, darts) with bar & seating this completes our setup.

We are now in a position to offer private unshared facilities for parties of 10/12 in the Gite .

Notes on accommodation: Please note all facilities, are exclusively for use by your party. There is no need to share the large heated swimming pool, the gardens, summer kitchen area, games, DVD's etc! Outside: Our gardens extend to over 4000 square meters. The grounds are fully enclosed and gated. There are various sets of outside furniture, pool loungers and BBQ provided. The private heated swimming pool is 10m x 5m with walk in Roman end steps, it starts shallow and gradually slopes to a deep end. There is a children's play area in the front courtyard and outside toys are available. Various shady spots around the gardens and in the large open barn provide a welcome relief from hot afternoons. There is a large lawn behind the swimming pool which is suitable for outdoor games such as football, badmington, and croquet. The large open barn is equipped with subtle lighting, complete with sofa's, chairs, and low tables for relaxing with a drink. There is a bar area with bar stools, games include a boules area, table tennis and darts. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Each bed has mattress and pillow protectors, quilts and pillows. Bathroom Towels & Bed Linen are included. Please bring your own pool towels. Electricity and gas included Cleaning is an optional extra. Other: There is a large dining room with seating for 12.

Well equipped holiday let. Clean and homely.

The property was of high standard and comfortable whilst still feeling homely. The fridge freezer was especially useful delivering ice on tap. The BBQ was big enough for the 10 of us and easy to clean. The added games supplied saved bringing your own. Table tennis and badminton net kept children amused when chores had to be done. Overall good area for facilities with a variety of interesting places to visit.

Fantastic family holiday house!

We had an excellent time in this wonderful house. The booking process was easy and Hazel was very easy to contact and prompt to reply to any emails that I sent. The house itself is lovely and in a fantastic location, the pool was perfect and with it being heated the children loved it. It was safe with child proof gates. The inside of the house was perfect with lots of space and the children loved the playroom and the well stocked DVD shelf was great for them to chill out with!

The bedrooms were spacious and very comfortable. Only downside was that they were very hot at night time, I think we were there for a particularly hot period.

Hazel and David were on hand if we needed anything and the information pack that they left covered everything we needed. Overall a brilliant place to stay and we would not hesitate to stay again!

Lovely Property, Beautiful Setting.

This property is ideal for large groups of families or friends - particularly those with children to entertain. There are enough different outside areas for people to have space from each other, alongside a lovely pool and outdoor (covered) lounge and games room, which the owners have put a lot of thought into. It was also very helpful to have Sky TV, a wide selection of books, DVDs and board games which, as a large family with children, we massively appreciated. We also loved the outside gazebo dining area, which can seat 12 or more adults, with children and there are two Barbecues for outside cooking. There is also an inside dining area, downstairs bedroom and showering facilities that are wheelchair accessible. Overall, therefore, the house was exactly what we were looking for. Just a couple of aspects we were less happy with e.g. a shower screen that fell off and the expectation that we, as guests would be providing a deep-clean of the property as well as vacating by 9.30a.m. As we had infants and a young baby with us, there was enough to do on the day of departure so we went for the alternative option of giving the owners another 100 Euros to get a local cleaner in. As this isn't a cheap property to rent, we felt this to be a bit unreasonable however, it didn't spoil the overall enjoyment of the holiday and We definitely enjoyed our week away here.

Plenty to see and do

Good location with access to a lot of interesting places in a beautiful part of France. Plenty of advice and support from the owners on where to go. Excellent outdoor facilities although the pool a bit cold if the sun doesn't shine! Perfect for a large party with children - lots to keep them occupied day and night, indoors and out.

Internally the downstairs shower room needs updating and the en-suite in the master bedroom really could do with a door instead of a curtain!

Fabulous location

Beautifully maintained property supported by the owners in residence. Great facilities: swimming pool, games area, play area and outside eating areas. All this is set in a wonderful part of France with great walking and great eating experiences. Fabulous for a large family gathering. Can't wait to return.

Everything we wished for

We loved the whole property. The house was large, a little rustic but just as you would expect a period farmhouse. The pool was a good size and inviting, there was plenty of room in the grounds for the children to play freely with the open barn a bonus. The British owners are in the adjacent property close enough to seek their advice/help/assistance but they made themselves scarce enough to ensure we had the most peaceful time possible. Both made us feel so welcome and there were a number of careful touches such as beers in the fridge, DVD's, games and baby toys that demonstrated their desire for us to enjoy our stay.

Booking Notes:

Please email to request a booking form or make a general enquiry. A booking will be held provisionally for 7 days pending payment of the reservation deposit and return of the booking form and terms and conditions duly completed. The reservation deposit is non-refundable and equals 25% of the rental price as detailed on the booking form. The balance of payment is due 60 days before arrival, the security deposit is also payable 60 days before arrival for £300.

Changeover Day:
July and August changeover day is Saturday.
Other months flexible changeover days may be available.

Arrivals:- Meet and Greet at Property is available between 4pm-7pm, other arrangements for key pick may be made by requested in advance.
