This is a spacious, modern house. It enjoys stunning views and is cooled by gentle mountain breezes. The villa has beautiful gardens where you can relax, sun bathe or eat al fresco in tranquil seclusion. If you want to taste the real Spain, enjoy silent roads, and experience encounters with pony and traps and the odd herd of goats, this is the holiday property for you.Sit and watch the bats at dusk, when they emerge from their protected cave within yards of the front garden. There is not a pool in the garden, but there is a lovely pool minutes away. This is an ideal base for beach lovers, golfers, cyclists, walkers and nature lovers. There are some interesting caves nearby, which can be explored.Beaches are a short drive away, and there are many interesting places to visit, from castles to seaports to larger towns with comprehensive shopping. Jalon is centre of a wine producing area, and many types of inexpensive wines can be purchased locally.
Hi. My name is Derek, retired and living in England. I enjoy spending time relaxing and enjoying Jalon. I had the villa built by Angel, a local builder who lives just a few minutes away. I chose The Jalon Valley because of its tranquil location and 'Spanish feel'. It is in a beautiful unspoilt area, yet has many amenities within easy reach. It is 20 minutes away from several sandy beaches, and is less than an hour from Alicante airport. It is very much a family home, being used by my daughters who love the magnificent scenery, the weather, the walking, the golf and the friendly atmosphere of the village.I have a friend close by who will deal with any queries or problems to make your stay more enjoyable.
Derek Cartwright purchased this villa in 2003
I purchased the villa as I loved the unspoilt atmosphere around this area. I love the solitude, the empty roads, yet it is only minutes away from several beaches and all amenities. I also considered the ease of access from Alicante airport...less than an hour away via the motorway.
I appreciate the seclusion, the magnificent unspoilt views, the beautiful dawns and sunsets. The short walk to town on a path through vines and orange groves is a delight.
We have visited La Golondrina before. We love the beautiful walk to the village, and the excellent coffee shops. We spend a lot of time relaxing in the gorgeous garden. We are already planning our next visit. My dad lives in the village, and we used this great Villa when we visited. Its nice walking back home through the orange groves at night using our phones as torches. Jodie Braithwaite
What a great holiday we had this year. The weather was so good, and there are so many places to go. So much to see ! We liked the cheap wine that we bought from the Bodegas in the village. Just 7 euros for 5 litres, and very drinkable. And the beer at just over one euro a bottle in Jalon's bars is so cheap. The house and holiday is great value. Jen and Stuart.
We had the most fantastic holiday at La Golondrina!
A beautiful villa on a peaceful street with spectacular views. The villa had every amenity one could need for a self catering holiday. It was clean and very spacious, a real home from home. There is a lovely landscaped garden area to the rear of the property which was a real sun trap! At the side was a large stone seating area where we had a barbeque and took in the amazing views!
The town of Jalon is 10- 15 mins walk away, and was a lovely typically Spanish market town. There were a good choice of bars and restaurants, but this was definitely not a tourist trap. There is also a very well stocked supermarket, which had a great selection of goods, and was very cheap!
Derek the owner was more than helpful during the booking process and even sent us directions to some of the nearby attractions, including the beautiful coastal towns of Moraira and Javea. I would definitely recommend the use of a hire car during your stay here.
I would thoroughly recommend this hidden gem to anyone wanting a peaceful, typically Spanish holiday for a great price.
The villa was in a wonderful position and the views spectacular. However, there was a musty smell the whole 10 days that we were there. I think this was probably from the soft furnishings which definitely needed washing. The throws on both the settees were stained and grubby. The kitchen needed cleaning before we put any food down on the surfaces and some of the china needed washing as it was not clean , there was mould in the fridge ice box, the thermostat on the cooker was broken and set at 200 degrees and the ironing board was circa 1930's. There was mould/rust around the sealant in the bathrooms, and one of the new sheets was badly stained which did not help our experience. Derek was however very helpful but he should spend some time getting the place professionally cleaned. The restaurants in Jalon were excellent and we especially enjoyed Bar Ole. Until we are sure of the cleanliness of Villa Golondrina we would not recommend it to anyone. We were really surprised at some of the reviews we have read - we are not fussy people, we just like things to be clean and safe.
The Villa has every comfort for a fantastic holiday, all rooms were furnished to a very high standard and spotlessly clean.
Very quiet estate ,but only a short walk through the orange groves to the village of Jalon,Which has very good bodegas with wine from the valley, very good quality and prices so cheap i could not believe
A large supermarket, and a good selection of bars.Fruit could be bought at very
reasonable prices from 2 market stalls by the river every day.
If walking is your thing you are surrounded by beautiful mountains.
If you require the sea Moraira a small town about 20 mins away, with a great beach and good sea food restaurants with local caught fish.
Derek the owner of the villa ,could not have been more helpfull to us.
We are definitly going back to the villa soon and recommed friends and family.
Thanks so much Derek

There are so many restaurants in the valley, whether they be in walking distance to Jalon town, or a short drive away, they all offer quality meals.
Most offer an inexpensive menu of the day which includes bread plus 3 courses and a free bottle of wine.If you venture to Calpe there are Chinese restaurants that charge less than 9 euros for 3 courses and complimentary bottle of wine. There is a large weekly market in Jalon, and Calpe, Moraira and Altea also hold regular markets .Jalon has a small Tourist Information Centre, situated opposite The Halleluyah Bar, by the river. The large rock at Calpe, 'El Penon D'Ifache, is a dominant feature, affording shelter from the elements, and can be climbed , from a path running inside.
