About this property

Charming Barn-Hathersage - Private Off Road Parking -Stunning Views & Mill Pond

Beautiful renovated detached Barn located in a lovely hamlet called Leadmill in Hathersage. Ideal place for a Couple or a maximum of 3 adults or 2 adults together with 2 children. Pond View Cottage is situated next to a Trout Farm and adjacent to the Owners home and it has its own pond side location. The Barn and Pond have been renovated. The Mill Pond was originally associated with a 17th century lead smelting mill in the hamlet and it has been restored to safeguard its historical, archaeological and wildlife features. Many of the original traditional features of the Barn have been preserved whilst offering a stylish comfortable retreat. A great place for a relaxing break and to explore the Peak District. There are lovely walks straight from the doorstep. The River Derwent passes south of the village and at Leadmill there is a very picturesque bridge just 2 minutes away from the Barn from where you can take riverside walks through the woods. It's only a short walk to the shops, cafes and bars in Hathersage.

Compact comfort
Beautiful, well-equipped and well-designed conversion with great views and just across from a hospitable pub. The friendly and responsive owners live on site. Hathersage is 15-20 minutes walk by road or across fields.

Instantly loved this place
We loved this lovely cottage so much. We were only here for a couple of nights over Easter, but loved every minute. A short walk from the centre of the village, across the road from a a pub with fab food (and beer!), and walks in every direction from the front door. We were instantly relaxed when we walked through the door. A perfect place for R&R and recovering from those long walks/food and beer across the road (delete as appropriate!). Our hosts Bal and James were great, easy communication and on site if needed. Great chatting with James to find out what the future holds for the old trout farm. Very exciting plans and look forward to seeing them develop…… Will most definitely be returning. Quickly!

Fantastic accommodation in great location
Just what we were looking for in terms of a weekend away. Walking distance of Hathersage for pubs, lido restaurants etc but also the benefit of eating in when we wanted to. Clean and comfortable location. Great host 👍

About the host

Hosted by Bal Rotherham

Host profile image
Hi - we are James & Bal Rotherham. We live in The Hermitage which is the house adjacent to Pond View Cottage with our 2 boys. James was born in Hathersage and has never left! It has a great local community. I moved in to The Hermitage in 2000.

James owns and runs the Trout Farm located near to the Barn. The Farm produces brown and rainbow trout for restocking rivers and reservoirs. The Farm has been in existence for over 40 years.

Why they chose this property

We decided to lovingly restore the Barn and the Mill Pond to try and preserve their historical importance and archeological impact within the hamlet.

Pond View cottage is based in Hathersage, a beautiful part of the country, set within the Peak Park which was the first national park. There are lovely walks and great cycling country routes to suit everyone.

Hathersage is a popular place to visit for those that love the great outdoors or for those in search of legendary heroes such as Little John from the Robin Hood tales or literacy greats such as Charlotte Bronte. There is something on offer to suit most interests!

What makes this property unique

Pond View Cottage is situated in an excellent location in a very popular village with great amenities. It is stylish, cosy and contemporary with stunning views. It has the unique aspect of being located right next to a Mill Pond.

It offers a great base from which to explore the Peak District locations. The Owners are readily available to offer advice on where to visit.

There are great walks from the door step and a wonderful old country inn within 2 minutes walking distance that offers great food and beers & wine if you don't feel like cooking!
