About this property

Architectural house from local wood and stone. Featured garden in Slieve Blooms.

We built the house in 1998 having found a beautiful location in the heart of the Slieve Bloom National Park yet just two miles from the lovely Slieve Bloom Village of Clonaslee with its five lively pubs. Our architect designed our house to maximise on the south facing aspect which looks directly into the mountains and used local materials wherever possible. The upstairs galley is a lovely feature giving a sense of flow and integrated space to the living room. The gardens set on one and a half acres have been our passion, literally transforming it from overgrown grazing spade by spade over 15 years. It now includes a 80 metre stream, sensor lights, 200 metre boardwalk, two firepits over 600 trees and shrubs, raised beds, herbs and two strawberry beds. Being in the heart of Ireland many guests have also enjoyed the opportunity to use it as a base for exploring.

We are in the heart of the Slieve Bloom I Environment Park. There are deer, peregrine falcons, pine martens, badgers, rare toads, a sighting by a guest of a kingfisher by the stream, endangered pipistrel bats and field mice. We keep the home very well maintained and it has been known for a bat to find its way through an open window and field mice are curious. We have never received house calls about deer or peregrine falcons.

We have been welcoming guest for the last seven years and you can view their comments from our guest book on our website.

Idyll in Clonaslee
The house is so clean and had everything we needed. The house is in an idyllic, quiet location and convenient to everywhere we wanted to travel. Thank you Michael for an ideal house for our stay.

Stay at woodland song clonaslee
House was clean and tidy and all very comfortable. There were a few issues though and they are unfortunately recurring ones. The garden area is severely in need of work done . Timber and little bridges all have rotting timber and little pathways (except on lawn area) overgrown. Certainly not suitable for children and hazardous for adults to walk on timber areas . The house itself , there were a few issues also. The oven door not closing properly,, no wine glasses ( even plastic would do)ever , a small freezer is definitely needed in house and badly missed. We would certainly rent this house again but feel all these issues need to be addressed as we are paying a lot of money to rent this property

Erlebnis Haus und Garten, Entspannung pur
Den Garten und das Haus kann man schwer beschreiben, man muss es einfach gesehen und erlebt haben. Es entspricht in allen Punkten dem Inserat und macht insgesamt einfach Spaß.

Weeks stee as y in the slieve bloom
Property was beautifully situated and plenty big enough for 8 people. Lovely setting however the maintenance is poor and the decking area by the stream was dangerous and broken. Cobwebs everywhere on all the windows and cills, guttering had grass growing from it ! The place look tired from our last visit 10 years ago and hadn’t been painted since then. Overall a lovely week away but this let it down.

I moved to Ireland from London in 1998. Having searchd for the ideal place to build a home we settled on a lovely spot in the heart of the Slieve Bloom Environment Park. Slowly over time the dream developed. A local architect was commisioned with the brief to use local materials wherever possible. We were lucky to have a wonderful builder. Next up came the garden and we hadn't a clue at first. A friend told me gardening would become addictive. It did. During one rainy day in march 1999 three of planted over 1000 trees and shrubs often using crowbars to remove the rocks. This formed the backbone of the garden. Later friends introduced Vytemis who was working on the sculpture Park in Lough Boora at the time. We clicked and so much of of what you see now has come from that collaboration.

Why they chose this property

I was working Tullamore and wanted to build my own house and garden in the most beautiful spot within commuting distance. It quickly became apparent that this was the Slieve Bloom Mountains and particularly around the village of Clonaslee. The project took shape and it became our passion. When my job brought me to Dublin we didn't have the heart to sell the house and garden having poured so much of ourselves into it. So we kept it on and over the last three years have been letting it out to holiday makers looking for a quiet and paeceful environment. Feedback has been really positive and very encouraging. This is the first year that we have decided to go it alone without the use of an agency. And have got a website professionally designed.

What makes this property unique

Peace. Time to kick back and relax and slow down. A joy for gardeners and nature lovers. A beautiful garden to explore. In the Slieve Bloom mountains, very much the undiscovered Ireland - many of our guests have refeerd to it as the Real ireland. Also a good central location for a touring holiday
