About Michael Clair

I moved to North Wales in 2007 with my wife, three children and our pet Labrador, Max. We live in Llandudno in a beautiful family home which has taken six years to renovate. Before we moved here we spent a lot of time either holidaying in the area and eventually purchased the Cottage in 2006. We used it as a family holiday home until we moved here permanently.

Michael Clair purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Michael Clair chose Conwy

I chose Betws-Y-Coed for its unspoilt beautiful location and the many local attractions it has to offer. It provides the contrast of a peaceful setting that is still within a short driving distance of busier resorts. We purchased Llugwy cottage in 2006 and until recently was rented on a permanent basis for a couple of years, now fully refurbishment Lugwy Cottage is once again a cottage to rent for all to enjoy

What makes this cottage unique

Llugwy Cottage was built in the 1850's with thick stone walls, low ceilings and a large fire place with cast iron log burner. You can sense the history within its structure, the thought of the miners and their families who once lived here. This creates a warm welcoming feeling when you stay and yet is has all the modern facilities you would expect and locally you have access to a huge variety of outdoor activities.

Charming cottage in a lovely little town.

  • 5 of 5

Charming cottage, clean and in a great location for shops, pubs, eateries.

Great for local walks from the cottage, close to Snowdon and for the stunning coastline (we were blessed with stunning weather!)

No parking as such at the cottage, but we had no problems parking on the road outside the cottage.

Had a fabulous week - and thanks Mike for the wine and chocolates, was a lovely welcome!

Gorgeous cottage in perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed over xmas for 5 nights. We had 2 children age 11 and 7 -and a dog. The cottage is gorgeous , very comfortable and had all the facilities you need when self catering. The location is great and is only a 5 min walk to the village with shops, pub, hotels and restaurants. The views are stunning and there is so much to do and see. We walked from the village through the woods following the river to swallow falls which is spectacular. We visited fairy glen again amazing. Conway zoo and the llechwood slate caverns which was fantastic.Only wish it had snowed😜 Thank you Mike for a great stay we will be back. Sarah xx

Snug, homely and a short walk from the village centre

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a short break with our 2 small children. The cottage is in a perfect location being 2 mins from the heart of the village and the village being at the heart of Snowdonia. It was a short drive through the stunning scenery to the castles on the north coast, and there are loads of activities for all ages within striking distance.

Clean, tidy and as described. The owners were accommodating and great at confirming and staying in touch.

There is a nice pub and a well stocked shop, open till 10, with all the basics about 400m away. The train station with real world rail links and the museum/ narrow gauge line was loved by the whole family.

Swallow Falls is a short drive up the road and well worth seeing, particularly after a rain storm.

It was a wet visit to Wales, but there's plenty to do and it's great to have the fire and cosy kitchen to come back to with comfy beds at the end of the day.

The cottage and location come well recommended.

Fantastic location, lovely cosy cottage, perfect for our family break.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a lovely break in Betwsycoed at the cottage. We stayed at the beginning of November and although the weather was typically autumnal the cottage was warm and welcoming. The owners even left a gift of wine and chocolates which were much appreciated. There were lots of brochures with information of places to eat and places to visit as well as info on the cottage, everything very straightforward and easy to use. Cottage very clean and tidy and deceptively spacious, with 4 of us and a dog we had more than enough room.

This cottage is in a very central location. We didnt need the car to walk into the village centre at all with lots of dog friendly cafes and shops which helped immensly at this time of year. Great walking in the local area too.

All in all a great short break

We hope to revisit you again soon.

Further Details:

Betws-y-Coed is North Wales' most popular inland resort. It is where the River Conwy meets its three tributaries flowing from the west, the Llugwy, the Lledr and the Machno. Much of it was built in Victorian times and it is the principal village of the Snowdonia National Park. Set in a beautiful valley in the Snowdonia Forest Park, it is ideal for outdoor activity holidays. Numerous Craft and outdoor activity shops are in the village with the popular Swallow Falls nearby. It’s has a wonderful setting surrounded by dense woodland and magnificent mountain country is only part of the answer. The beauty of the area is enhanced by cascading waterfalls, hill-top lakes, river pools and ancient bridges. Ever since the Victorian artists flocked to the area and formed the first artist colony it has been a Mecca for those that appreciate its unique natural beauty.
