About Michael Clair

I moved to North Wales in 2007 with my wife, three children and our pet Labrador, Max. We live in Llandudno in a beautiful family home which has taken six years to renovate. Before we moved here we spent a lot of time either holidaying in the area and eventually purchased the Cottage in 2006. We used it as a family holiday home until we moved here permanently.

Michael Clair purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Michael Clair chose Wales

I chose Betws-Y-Coed for its unspoilt beautiful location and the many local attractions it has to offer. It provides the contrast of a peaceful setting that is still within a short driving distance of busier resorts. We purchased Llugwy cottage in 2006 and until recently was rented on a permanent basis for a couple of years, now fully refurbishment Lugwy Cottage is once again a cottage to rent for all to enjoy

What makes this cottage unique

Llugwy Cottage was built in the 1850's with thick stone walls, low ceilings and a large fire place with cast iron log burner. You can sense the history within its structure, the thought of the miners and their families who once lived here. This creates a warm welcoming feeling when you stay and yet is has all the modern facilities you would expect and locally you have access to a huge variety of outdoor activities.

Lovely cottage, perfect location

  • 5 of 5

This lovely cottage is perfectly located a couple of minutes' walk from the restaurants, shops and attractions of Betwys y Coed which, in turn, is a short drive from the hills. It was very comfortable for 4 adults. The heating is excellent and the fire and sofas makes it feel very cosy. The kitchen is well equipped - so nice to have decent knives and pans in a rental cottage. Parking was straightforward, if sometimes up to 50 metres away. Not a problem for us - we were there on a walking holiday after all. Excellent customer service from Mike the owner and warmly recommended to others. Just don't book on the week we want to come back.

The cottage is situated in a beautiful setting. It was clean, tidy and welcoming. The cottage is well equipped and comfortable. The surrounding area is gorgeous, and central to everything we needed. Myself and my family would like to thank the owners for the loan of their cottage, it's simply magical and we will definitely return one day.

Cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful cottage in the heart of Betws-y-coed. We felt right at home the minute we walked in. Your not over looking the shops but are surrounded by convenience shops, restaurants and beautiful walks. The view is amazing both front and back, even in the rain. (It is Wales after all). We had the log burner going most nights which added to the cosy feel of the cottage. (You can buy logs etc from the spar 100 yards away). A fantastic place to relax, unwind and recharge. The owner even supplied a huge folder of places to visit. I recommend King Arthur's labyrinth just for the craft shops and the drive there alone. And then of course you have this beautiful cottage the go back to.

A beautifully presented two bedroom cottage with excellent kitchen. Perfect access to Betws y Coed

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived we were really pleased with the overall impression, cleanliness and well-fitted kitchen in the property. Mike and Tina had very kindly left us a bottle of wine and some chocolates for our arrival - such a lovely thought and I've never had this before in a rental property. The property has such a lovely cottagey-feel about it and is so different to our own home which was perfect and just what we wanted. The bedrooms were well fitted - plenty of space for clothes and beautiful views from both windows. We were treated to a view of a buzzard preening itself on top of the shed next door - just showing how rural it is. Having said that, the beautiful town of Betws is literally on the doorstep. If you're going walking and need any outdoors clothes / footwear etc - wait until you get there as there is so much choice and competitive prices. Great places to eat (the pizzeria is wonderful) and beautiful walks / dog swimming areas. We even found a lake up behind the town where my teenage sons went swimming in the rain - magical! The sights, local towns and of course Snowdon are a short drive away and the roads were lovely and quiet. The cottage was very easy to maintain and there was plenty of space for two large teenagers plus myself and my husband. We were a bit worried about parking as it is on road parking, however there was space when we arrived (4pm on the Saturday) there was space for us and also by the time we got home after days out there was always a space for us so nothing to worry about. Overall a fantastic stay. It rained a lot but we figured that's why Wales is so green and pretty, and it didn't spoil our stay. Just remember waterproofs!

A Good Cottage

  • 3 of 5

Good things:

- Clean, cosy and characterful.

- Wood burner

- Good kitchen

- Good location

- We had a great holiday

- Well maintained..

Bad things:

- Lounge is a bit small and dark but it is a cottage.

- On the main road (but it didn't matter too much)

My friends rented cottages nearby for a bit cheaper and better in some respects. We booked late so didn't have much choice.

Overall we weren't disappointed and had a good holiday. The town and surroundings are fantastic.

A beautiful cottage in the heart of Betws-y-Coed

  • 5 of 5

The cottage could not be more centrally located to the heart if the village and is within walking distance of all of the local eateries, shops and amenities. The cottage is deceptively large and was more than comfortable for 3 adults a baby and a dog!

Michael, the owner, was very pleasant to deal with throughout the booking process and when we met him in person when leaving the property. Security deposit was returned very quickly.

I would highly recommend staying here and it is the perfect base for exploring Betws-y-Coed, Snowdonia National Park and North Wales.
