Lovely Tideswell
Cottage is cosy with modern facilities and is located towards the top of the village with steps to gain access. Would recommend the cottage and location as long as you’re mobile.

A nice village to explore the Peak District
Unfortunately, this accommodation fell short of the standards that we have previously enjoyed with self-catering accommodation. When we made the booking, we enquired about bike storage and were advised that there was storage available in the back garden, for both our bikes. When we arrived, we had to remove a large BBQ from the storage area before we could put the bikes in. Our host said that if he’d known we were taking bikes, he would have had it ready! On the first day we weren’t able to open the bathroom door. Although the host came out straight away, we did manage to open the door just as he arrived. He said that he had noticed that the door handle had been sticking and if it continued to do so, then to let him know. It is my view that he should have repaired the door handle before we arrived. We also had a problem with the parasol. I wound the parasol up using the handle and it sprung back on my hand (which was rather painful). Again, the host came out promptly, but it was clear that the broken parasol was a known problem and it was no longer fit for purpose. The radiator/towel rail in bathroom was set on a timer and there were very clear instructions that we were not to alter the timings. We were there during a heatwave with temperatures reaching 36 degrees. In spite of this, the bathroom radiator was on for at least 5 hours in the morning and it was back on again in the evening, which made the heat upstairs very uncomfortable. The back garden fence had fallen down where the back garden met the roof extension. This wouldn’t be safe for younger children. The front garden had become overgrown e.g. only one person could sit on the bench because the bushes had grown over one side making in uncomfortable to sit there. The settee was very uncomfortable with broken springs on two of the seats. The guide for holiday guests was out of date e.g. it referred to a Now TV console and white remote control, which didn’t exist. The leaflets were also out of date e.g. the Chatsworth House leaflet was dated 2016. In other accommodation, the hosts have gone out of their way to ensure that their guests enjoy their holiday experience e.g. by providing a small welcome pack and providing up to date information for their guests. Unfortunately, on this occasion our impression was that the host had done the bear minimum required to let the property. I wouldn’t return to this accommodation and I wouldn’t recommend it.

Long term village residents committed to providing clean, comfortable accommodation to our guests!

Why they chose this property

As long term Tideswell residents, we purchased Swift Cottage in 2010 because of its unique, peaceful edge of village location, unparalleled views, yet proximity to the amenities found in the bustling village centre just a few minutes walk away. Our aim from the outset has been to provide guests with a degree of comfort not found in the average holiday cottage locally at a reasonable price, installing touches of luxury such as the bathroom with whirlpool bath and underfloor heating, wooden floors in all bedrooms, quality mattresses and linen, free Wi Fi and live streaming movies and news.

We live in the village so are always on hand should you need us - yet far enough away so you don’t feel we’re overlooking you or encroaching on your privacy! Furthermore we have a housekeeper and cottage maintenance team on hand locally to assist if necessary.

What makes this property unique

We are ideally located on a peaceful edge of village location in the very heart of the Peak District National Park. The outdoor dining area (with quality teak furnishing), well-tended garden and views across the dale are unsurpassed within Tideswell. You can easily walk - run or ride a bike - from the front door into surrounding unspoilt countryside. Parking in the Townhead area of the village is plentiful, both on road and in the car park 25 yards to the rear of Swift Cottage.

Spectacular country houses such as Chatsworth and Haddon Hall and market towns like Bakewell and Buxton are just a short drive away. The village has excellent facilities including a range of shops, 2 restaurants, 2 tea rooms/cafés and 3 very good pubs which serve local food and drink, all within easy walking distance of the cottage (and several more close by!)

Tideswell is a charming 'real' village where the local residents are friendly and life passes at a relaxed pace reminiscent of a past era. Relax and enjoy the setting - we did and decided to stay!
