Photos and Description of this Bélesta holiday barn

3 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, Open Plan Living Area, Private Patio Garden and Terrace. Located in a quiet village with renowned Restaurant and Local Vineyards.

At La Grange we aim to provide a truly French experience, offering a rural escape for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of life.

La Grange, once a derelict village barn is now a renovated and restored gite with much of its character retained to ensure an authentic stay.

It’s the perfect place to stay whatever the weather, with its outside terrace being the ideal place to have a barbecue and enjoy the view. As well as making the most of being in one of the sunniest regions of France, with sandy beaches not being far or the abundance of walks right on the doorstep. Or in the chillier months getting cosy beside the log burning fire, just in from a day out on the slopes!

The gite, based in the mountain village of Belesta, boasts two fantastic restaurants, one being a very traditional French restaurant ‘Chez Pierre’ and the other being one of the top Winery, Hotel and Restaurants ‘Riberach ,La Coopérative,’ in the area.

Belesta also has a friendly shop/café in the square where you can pick up all your basics and enjoy a coffee, or glass of wine whilst watching the world go by, it’s a great place to stay for those looking to unwind and relax.

About Ashten Eveleigh

The house is owned by two families, with one family having connections with the French Pyrenees since the 1970s, they shared their love for this corner of France with the other!

Both families live on the south coast of the UK and regularly go over to France to enjoy the sunshine and amazing scenery. With children ranging from all ages we have tested out the suitability of the region for families and can happily report that there is plenty to keep all ages happy including outdoor adventure parks, old castles to explore and lovely sandy beaches combined with great food and wine there is lots for adults too!

Ashten Eveleigh purchased this barn in 2004

Why Ashten Eveleigh chose Fenouilledes

This house was used for many years as a barn and was in a very sad state when we bought it as it had been left empty for many years. It took us a few years to get the various permissions required to transform it into the comfortable holiday home it is today. We have tried to retain as much of the original character of the house as possible with lots of old stonework and beams to be seen, including an original stone feeding trough that is part of a bathroom! There are lovely views which was one of the main reason we bought the property - we could see the potential for a large balcony overlooking the valley below. Belesta is a friendly village with an unexpected bonus - one of the most popular restaurants in the region!

What makes this barn unique

As well as the restaurant in the village there are many more in the nearby town of Ille sur Tet and it is on a well known wine route with vineyards to visit just up the road. Belesta is also near enough to the Mediterranean to make day trips to the beach easy, there are a range of beaches to choose from and in the summer months an Aqualand water park which children love.

Guestbook comments from the owner

“We’ve had a fantastic week. Enjoyed sitting on the terrace with the beautiful view, watching the house martins and lizards.

Chez Pierre is well worth a visit – food great & Pierre was very welcoming – loved his home made liqueurs!!!

Collioure was great for beaches, castle and the interesting streets. Orgues of Ille Sur Tet very impressive, as were the Gorges de Galamus. Villefranche de Conflent was a fascinating village. So much to see. A great week – thanks.” July 2014

“Thank you very much for a lovely week at ‘La Grange’. We enjoyed Bélesta itself, the bar/café in the square, great breakfast and very welcoming. A ‘fête’ on our last weekend was entertaining (Le Chant des Vignes).

We’d recommend visiting Céret, Prades and Eus (an old mountain village with marvellous Artisan exhibition work). Unfortunately we had a few days of poor weather so saw Collioure and The Med in the pouring rain and couldn’t park so we went to Céret instead.

We drove the route of The little Yellow Train, past Mont Louis to ‘Les Angles’. We aimed to walk but be prepared……..We left Belesta in 25° & by the time we got there, high in the Pyrenees we were in cloud at 10°. A very picturesque drive, just make sure you take a warm coat!

Villefranche worth a visit too & Orgues of Ille Sur Tet. We ate at Chez Pierre’s. Good food and humour (Lots of both!)Treat yourselves to a meal at Riberach Hotel beautiful food and an amazing wine waiter!!

Speaking of wine, the tasting at Caladroy is great fun & the wine good value.

We hope to return.” August 2014
