Born on the Isle of Wight I have lived at Gotten Manor since 1987.
I started the bed and breakfast in the Old House eighteen years ago when my youngest was three.
Since then the business has progressed to include the renovation of two stone barns into three self-catering cottages.
Caroline Gurney-Champion purchased this barn in 1980
Gotten Manor seems to have been inhabited for at least a thousand years, originating probably as an early Jutish settlement with the name of Godyington. It is tucked away under St Catherine's Down near the village of Chale and is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086.
The area is an unique landscape of downland
and woodland with an abundance of wildlife - it is fairly wild and remote, smuggling country -
which I love!
To arrive at Gotten you go down a single track lane off the main road and after approx half a mile you get to us - in the middle of nowhere.
It is very quiet and has the benefit of amazing dark skies.
There are wonderful beaches close by and because the Isle of Wight is small you are not far from anywhere.
