A short car journey takes you to the villages of Muker and Reeth which offer good food, pubs and shops. The cottage has it's living space, toilet and 1 single bedroom on the ground floor with the other bedrooms on the lower ground floor, allowing you to enjoy the best of the fantastic views. The sitting room has an open coal fire with all fuel included in the rent.

Lovely location
Nice cottage with lovely views, but it is very dated. Almost like stepping back to the 1980s. Small very old freezer, carpeted kitchen/diner, avocado bathroom suite. Only one shower for 5 people. Host contacted us midweek to ask if things were OK (which I really didn't want to be bothered with), but didn't bother to call us when she found the bags my grand daughter had left behind. We had to call and ask if they were there. She was apparently upset by my comments in the Visitor's Book about the shower, the hard bed in the upstairs bedroom and the dated features. There is no dishwasher.

Clean cottage with beautiful views
Diane was helpful throughout the booking process and on arrival. The cottage was clean and the views were stunning. It was lovely to sit in the garden with a drink of an evening. Unfortunately we had a family emergency so had to leave earlier than planned. The space in the cottage was good and the kitchen was fully equipped for anyone cooking in there. It would have been nice to have a few basics such as tea, coffee and milk on arrival as there is no shop in Gunnerside. Would recommend the Kings Head pub in Gunnerside and Richmond was a lovely place to visit too.

Wonderful family holiday
Fantastic family friendly property in stunning surroundings. No problems at all with the cottage. The views are great- its a very peaceful place. Loved watching the lambs frollick in the fields, and so many pheasants and rabbits around too. We had a wonderful holiday and would definitely recommend the cottage.

About the host

Host profile image
My parents came to farm at Gunnerside in 1965. They decided to diversify in 1990 and converted one of our barns into a self contained holiday cottage. East Roof as it was named became a home from home from then on. Many of our guests still return today bringing with them their children and grandchildren.
When my parents retired, my husband, two daughters and I took over the running of East Roof. We live near Richmond and return each week to clean and maintain the cottage.
I love to come back to East Roof and the area where I grew up, the view across the dale never changes apart from the effect the seasons have upon it.

Why they chose this property

The property has been in my family for over 50 years.

What makes this property unique

The best part of the cottage is its peaceful location, with stunning views from every window and walks from the door step. With the popular village of Gunnerside only a five minutes walk away with its café and pub both serving good food.
