The Most Beautiful View
At Nell Tom, every room has an amazing view. The house is very comfortable, welcoming, and has a good flow. The kitchen has every item you need to cook a meal and clean up is easy. The owner Louise, is very helpful and and gave us a wonderful basket of food and wine which we really appreciated. It was so easy to be in the house and it contributed to our adventure.

Summer holiday
Fantastic property with a well equipped kitchen and plenty of space. The drive up the private road takes some getting used to but you’re rewarded with a stunning view in a very peaceful location.

Amazing house in a peaceful setting
The house is beautifully furnished to a high standard and has everything and more, you may need for your stay. The views are stunning and we went for many walks during our stay. The information Louise sent before the holiday was super helpful and helped us arrange food shopping as well as finding the house. Yes the drive up the hill is not your average road but is doable. We only met another car once which was my main concern and it all worked out as there are passing places. The beds are super comfortable, the house is warm, and there leave you the most sumptuous hamper of goodies and basics to welcome you to the house

About the host

We are a family who love the Dales and have been visiting Swaledale since our children were tiny. They have grown up as dual nationals (We live in the South West!) and have both now left home, but continue to love to visit Swaledale for every holiday.
We love the peace and quiet, the walking and the birds and wildlife.
We had the opportunity to buy Laykin in 2005 and Nell Tom in 2012 and have enjoyed both renovation projects and the chance to spend time there ourselves as well as letting the properties out.

Why they chose this property

We had the opportunity to buy Nell Tom in 2012. How could we resist? The views down the Dale are simply breathtaking, and though we knew that we would need to make many alterations to the house and garden to achieve what we wanted, we felt that it's location warranted it.
We set about a total renovation in March 14 and our first guests stayed in May 2015.

What makes this property unique

It is wonderful peaceful and secluded. You approach from the tiny road to Blades, and then down a private track. There are a couple of other holiday homes nearby but you will feel as if you are totally isolated as the nearest one is above us and can't really be seen from the house.
You can have wonderful walks straight from the door and admire fantastic scenery, wildlife, birds, flowers.
It's incredible for star gazing. You can clearly see the milky way and there is no light pollution.
You won't be able to use your phone if you use vodafone as there is no signal in the Dale, so you can relax. Other networks are fine, and we have WiFi.
There is a large enclosed garden to enjoy all the views from.
The whole house will be newly renovated and built to the highest standards. It is well insulated, has underfloor heating provided by ground source. It is cosy & all the furniture & beds are new.
