About Jim Craig

We are Jim & Pauline Craig a Scottish couple living in the village of Barrou who have had the pleasure of receiving visitors to our holiday home 'Les Balcons' in Le Grand Pressigny and managing 'Le Bourg' here in the village for the last 5 years. In that time we have made many new friends from every corner of the globe and look forward to meeting many more. We enjoy sharing our experiences of living in rural France and passing on the benefit of our 'local knowledge'

Jim Craig purchased this barn in 2014

Why Jim Craig chose Indre-et-Loire

.Some guest testimonials which speak for themselves.

Magical place with wonderful surprises in every town or village! ... Jim and Pauline were excellent hosts and most helpful We thoroughly enjoyed our visit

We had a very lovely stay at 'Le Bourg'. The house was very comfortable and functional and the aera surrounding is stunning. We spent our mornings visiting lovely places like Descartes, Angles sur l'Anglin, Loches and chateau Chenonceau and in afternoon sunbathing on the patio - just divine.

Thank you Jim & Pauline for all your help and advice. You couldn't have done it better.

PS Please use the local shops as the people are so lovely and helpful.

Thank you Jim& Pauline, we loved making your barn our barn !! We decided to do one major visit spent a day and drive around the the smaller roads through untold villages and beautiful farmlands. Chenonceau, Villandry and Loches were the highlights. The Loire Valley was a delight and we enjoyed everyday - just wish it was longer.

Love, love Le Bourg

My 3 sisters and I first stayed at Le Bourg in 2014. We were thrilled to discover that it was even more amazing than we expected. We love it so much that we will be returning for the 3rd year in 2016. The converted barn is lovely. It is clean and comfortable. There is a great patio overlooking the River Creuse. The kitchen has everything-stove, refrigerator, dish washer, washer & dryer. The great room is comfortable with a fireplace and lots of wood to burn. All of this is great but the main reason we love to return is the people who manage it, Jim & Pauline. They are wonderful. They know the area and can give helpful information and advise about where to visit, good restaurants, places that are over-rated and assistance with anything you need. The village of Barrou has a good boulangerie and a restaurant right across the road. I can't recommend Le Bourg enough. You will not be disappointed.

Le Bourg

The Le Bourg rental proved to be excellent value, well furnished, and equipped, clean and refreshing. It was spacious, a river flowing past the back yard. We used it as a base to tour the district. Our group comprised two retired couples, with a hire car(probably essential)

Jim and Pauline were exceptional hosts, providing sound and helpful advice throughout our 3 week stay.

The villiage was good, with a bar/restrauant across the road, a bakery and small shop just down the road. It is in a good location with plenty of attractions nearby. All locals we meet were very friendly and helpful.

We stayed at Le Bourg for one week. The Gite is in a lovely French village setting with the secluded patio and garden facing the river. The living accommodation is spacious, well equipped and attractive, with high ceilings and wood beams. The Gite is well placed to visit some beautiful towns, villages and chateaux. There is also the bonus of having Jim and Pauline on hand who are a wealth of information and more than willing to impart this if needed. We had a wonderful holiday and the Gite and help from Jim and Pauline played a large part. Le Bourg is a lovely place and highly recommended.

We have been holidaying in France for many years now & for the past 3 years we have explored the Loire Valley. In 2013 we stayed at Jim & Pauline Craig's property, Les Balcons, in Le Grand Pressigny. During our stay we met up with our hosts in Barrou and they gave us a sneak preview of Le Bourg (thanks to the guests at the time). The house had everything that we look for in a holiday retreat and we booked for 2014 there and then. Our stay at Le Bourg this year was everything we had hoped for, right in the middle of the village of Barrou with a bar/restaurant directly opposite + a boulangerie and boucherie on the doorstep. The property itself was superb, with it's huge living space, well fitted kitchen, comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms, wonderful outdoor spaces and off road parking. It really was a beautiful. It was a great base to discover the delights of the Loire Valley - The Beautiful spa town of La Roche Posay is about 15mins drive from the property and has a good Supermarket, Racecourse, restaurants and Markets, well worth a visit. There is so much to see in this area that you will probably need to do it over a few years. Our Hosts, Jim & Pauline, live in Barrou and were always there for help and advice if we needed it. They introduced us to some of their neighbours at a soire which was great fun and I feel that we left the Loire having made some new friends. I would highly recommend anyone using Le Bourg or Les Balcons as their base for exploring the beautiful Loire Valley.

I found le Bourg online and it looked great but in reality it was even better. My three sisters and I couldn't have been happier from the house itself to the wonderful hosts to the kind and friendly towns' people. If you are looking for an amazing home base to explore Loire Valley, you cold not find a better place. The house is clean and well kept. There are all the conveniences that Americans take for granted. However the best part is the hosts Jim and Pauline who are so helpful and gave us great suggestions for learning about the area not just visiting the major chateaux. We have traveled to other countries and stayed in lovely places but have never felt so comfortable nor so very sorry to leave. In fact we are returning next April and can't wait to go back to what we think of as our home away from home.
