About Linda Scott

I live in south West Scotland on the Solway Coast overlooking the sea with panoramic views accross to the Lake District with my husband Peter our Border Terrier dog Tori and my mother Margaret and her blind Jack Russell dog Suzi.

I have always enjoyed outdoor activities and sports including show jumping, clay pigeon shooting and I am a keen golfer playing out of Southerness GC.

Linda Scott purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Linda Scott chose Dumfries & Galloway

Burnfoot Cottage & Bothy came onto the market late 2013, which we viewed and immediately fell in love with and it's amazing location beside Dhoon Beach. Fortunately, we were successul with our offer on the property and set to work carrying out an extensive renovation project and the cottage was opened to it's first guests at the end of August 2014.

The area is known to have it's own micro climate and this was very evident during the renovation, with a distict difference from the surrounding areas, even from Kirkcudbright (5 mins drive) which you can view up the estuary in the distance.

We intend to renovate the Bothy to the same luxury standard at some point in the future. The Bothy will be for up to two persons.

What makes this cottage unique

Being set in two and a half acres of its own grounds, the secluded cottage offers such a lovely variation of large garden, woodland walk, sheltered sitting areas, patios, BBQ area, sun bathing areas and direct beach access.

You don't have to go far for everything you require for your holiday, the "Artists Town", Kirkcudbright is 5 minutes drive and offers a wonderful selection of shops, cafes, takeaways and restaurants. Get your fish & chips and enjoy them in the park or as you stroll along the harbour watching the fishing boats coming in. Or the "Food Town", Castle Douglas is 15 minutes drive and definately worth a visit. Both towns are small and offer that old fashioned feel and charm, none of the pedestian and multistorey car parking (or charges) here!

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is a wonderful cottage in a fantastic area, and what a view! It's been amazing staying here and exploring the beach every day with our boys. The cottage is very well equipped and has been done to the highest standard. They have thought of everything to the smallest detail. We would highly recommend this cottage and return ourselves - why go anywhere else?

Lovely property in sensational location

  • 5 of 5

Cottage fitted and furnished to an extremely high standard. Best equipped and most pristine property we have ever stayed in yet with a very homely feel. Lots of lovely comfortable seating throughout. meaning time could be spent alone or in each others company. Comfortable beds with plentiful supply of good quality linens, towels and toiletries. Amount of everyday necessities left for us was very impressive - i.e. enough for the whole week rather than just sufficient items to tide us over until we got to a shop. Linda really had thought of everything we might possibly need. Location overlooking beach was fantastic. Saw birds we had never seen before. Cottage also had lovely gardens including woodland with a stream running through it.

A lovely hamper awaited us on our arrival. All in all a lovely place to enjoy with our family who can't often get together as a group.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much Anne for your very kind comments and taking the time to review your holiday, which is really appreciated. I am delighted that you found the cottage to be so comfortable and had everything you required for your family get together - I do like to think it is “Home from Home”. Burnfoot cottage has such a special location, as you say with the beach and the large woodland garden to explore, something for everyone! I look forward to welcoming you all back at some point in the future. Kind regards, Linda.

Amazing house, amazing location...amazing holiday!

  • 5 of 5

Linda and Peter have created a beautiful home from home...with everything you could need to enjoy your stay. From a welcome pack (actually a lovely hamper) on arrival to endless supplies of logs the house has everything you need and is so tastefully decorated and equipped. This alone is impressive but then there is the location....right by the beach. The view is sensational and ever changing. If you can't relax at Burnfoot then you will struggle to relax anywhere. The surrounding area has an abundance of things to do, especially if you are looking for outdoors adventures but unlike some coastal areas is very quiet and unspoilt. I have never returned to the same holiday cottage twice as I am always looking for new adventures but Burnfoot and the Galloway area is hopefully the exception....totally fantastic holiday. Just add wet suit and enjoy! Thank you Linda and Peter. You have done an amazing job and were lovely hosts.

I am especially pleased that you loved your first visit to Burnfoot cottage and our “Secret Coast”. We are very lucky to live in such a beautiful area with so much to see and do for all ages. I look forward to welcoming you back next year when you can explore some more! Kind regards, Linda.

Stunning property with spectacular views and direct access to the beach.

  • 5 of 5

Linda has renovated this beautiful cottage with award winning flare. A real gem of a fInd. Kitchen is fully fitted with all the mod cons and high end amenities associated with a luxury property. A delight to cook in.

Views are something else, overlooking the River Dee and your own private access to the beach. A wonderful private river walk through the garden, delights and the night views to the stars, breathtaking.

Our kids were up early every morning collecting shells from the beach and hunting for crabs. A log fire in the living room kept us all warm during the evening and a fantastic portfolio of local restaurants, galleries and places of interest is thoughtfully provided.

A short 5 minute drive into town to the local takeaways, restaurants, galleries and castle.

This could possibly be the best family holiday accommodation in Scotland and our personal favourite. We will definitely be back.

A Very Special Stay!

  • 5 of 5

Burnfoot Cottage provides accommodation that is of an exceptionally high standard. The owner Linda, was friendly and helpful from the moment I made an enquiry about availability, right through to our departure day. We were amazed at the wonderful welcome hamper and fruit bowl, with everything we needed to make our stay special. The cottage was very warm and cosy for a winter break with plenty of space for 8 adults. Without a doubt the view from the conservatory is outstanding - it was very hard to drag ourselves away and go out! Would definitely consider a return visit - have taken away lots of happy memories.

A true dream cottage

  • 5 of 5

Wow wow wow, what can I say, from the moment we met Linda, we knew this was perfect, Linda is a wonderful, warm friendly lady, who has gone to incredible lenths, not only in the appearance and build of this wonderful cottage, but also inside aswell, all to a very high quality, we were greeted by a magnificent hamper, wine, beer, bread, cake etc, tea, coffee, milk, cheese, pasta, we wanted for nothing, which was a wonderful suprise, we had a fantastic stay here, the morning view of the bay whilst having your coffee can't be put into words, it has to be seen to be believed, kirkcudbright itself is a wonderful place, full of character, great places to eat, very good museum, and great views, we cannot wait to come back, if we can get in that is lol, many thanks Linda, hopefully see you soon?

Surpassed expectations in all areas.

  • 5 of 5

Burnfoot has the most wonderful location; with coastal views from most rooms and from the extensive garden, it felt so relaxing hearing and watching the tide throughout the day. The grounds are a pleasure in their own right though, with seating aplenty and the ever so pretty planters plus the woodland.

Linda has made sure that the furnishings and bedding don't disappoint. Everything is done to an extremely high standard; lovely thick towels, luxurious welcome hamper, all the kitchen gadgets and essential larder items you could wish for. Plus thoughtful things like fishing nets for the kids and umbrellas for the unpredictable Scottish weather.

We absolutely loved our stay would certainly return.

Many thanks from Liz, Claudia, Paul, Luca, Lucas, Roxy and Frankie
