About Linda Scott

I live in south West Scotland on the Solway Coast overlooking the sea which has panoramic views accross to the Lake District with my husband Peter, our Border Terrier dog Tori and my mother Margaret and her blind Jack Russell dog Suzi.

I have always enjoyed outdoor activities and sports including show jumping, clay pigeon shooting and I am a keen golfer playing out of Southerness GC.

Linda Scott purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Linda Scott chose Kirkcudbright

Burnfoot Cottage & Bothy came onto the market late 2013, which we viewed and immediately fell in love with and it's amazing location beside Dhoon Beach. Fortunately, we were successul with our offer on the property and set to work carrying out an extensive renovation project and the cottage was opened to it's first guests at the end of August 2014.

The area is known to have it's own micro climate and this was very evident during the renovation, with a distict difference from the surrounding areas, even from Kirkcudbright (5 mins drive) which you can view up the estuary in the distance.

We intend to renovate the Bothy to the same luxury standard at some point in the future. The Bothy will be for up to two persons.

What makes this cottage unique

Being set in two and a half acres of its own grounds, the secluded cottage offers such a lovely variation of large garden, woodland walk, sheltered sitting areas, patios, BBQ area, sun bathing areas and direct beach access.

You don't have to go far for everything you require for your holiday, the "Artists Town", Kirkcudbright is 5 minutes drive and offers a wonderful selection of shops, cafes, takeaways and restaurants. Get your fish & chips and enjoy them in the park or as you stroll along the harbour watching the fishing boats coming in. Or the "Food Town", Castle Douglas is 15 minutes drive and definately worth a visit. Both towns are small and offer that old fashioned feel and charm, none of the pedestian and multistorey car parking (or charges) here!

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is a wonderful cottage in a fantastic area, and what a view! It's been amazing staying here and exploring the beach every day with our boys. The cottage is very well equipped and has been done to the highest standard. They have thought of everything to the smallest detail. We would highly recommend this cottage and return ourselves - why go anywhere else?

Simply the Best

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from our second stay at Burnfoot Cottage and as before the accommodation was first class. The location is fantastic with easy access to Dumfries and Galloway and all it's attractions. The welcoming pack was luxurious and very much appreciated plus the dogs enjoyed their own tasty treats. The owners Linda and Peter are very friendly, welcoming and always on hand if required. We would have no hesitation in staying here again in the future ( if we can get booked in). Thanks again

One of the absolute best!

  • 4 of 5

One of the most comfortable places we have stayed in for a holiday. Everything you need and more is here. And the location ..well...

Watching the dogs that run around on the beach from the sunroom became a daily event.

Evenings in front of the fire watching a movie from the huge selection of DVDs or Sky was lovely.

We had a fantastic holiday (with our dog Ollie) and really hope to return.

Thank you Linda for a beautiful place to stay and the enormous welcome hamper on our arrival :-)

Stunning location and a beautiful cottage.

  • 5 of 5

We all loved the cottage and took advantage of the bbq on the sunny days! The conservatory was used constantly whatever the weather. Boot room for the pup and the kids with the shower was a god send after many walks through the garden onto the beach. The welcome hamper was so appreciated and even managed to keep the proseco to bring home. A holiday to remember with many happy memories made can highly recommend this special gem of a cottage.

Stunning location and excellent accomodation & facilities.

  • 5 of 5

You have to stay here to beleive it, probably the best property I've stayed at in the UK.

The house coundn't be any closer to the sea, you can spend hours in the conservatory just looking out at the tide coming in/out.

The kitchen/diner was large enough for all eight of us to dine together for breakfast each morning and the occasional dinner and this continued outside too, with two large seating areas outside. The guest hamper was stocked with some high quality local goodies, the cheese was especially tasty.

Would like to stay here over Christmas to test out the log burner, but the 9hr drive from home is a little much :-)

Lovely property in sensational location

  • 5 of 5

Cottage fitted and furnished to an extremely high standard. Best equipped and most pristine property we have ever stayed in yet with a very homely feel. Lots of lovely comfortable seating throughout. meaning time could be spent alone or in each others company. Comfortable beds with plentiful supply of good quality linens, towels and toiletries. Amount of everyday necessities left for us was very impressive - i.e. enough for the whole week rather than just sufficient items to tide us over until we got to a shop. Linda really had thought of everything we might possibly need. Location overlooking beach was fantastic. Saw birds we had never seen before. Cottage also had lovely gardens including woodland with a stream running through it.

A lovely hamper awaited us on our arrival. All in all a lovely place to enjoy with our family who can't often get together as a group.
