Overview

Photos and Description of this Città di Castello holiday farmhouse

Farmhouse in Ronti, Citta di Castello, Umbria, Italy - Absolute Tranquillity Guaranteed, Views To Die For.

On top of the world! That is exactly how it feels. This recently restored Casa Padronale sits atop a hillside with sweeping views into the valley below. From the beautiful farmhouse-style kitchen with adjoining Loggia for breakfast, to the traditional Soggiorno (drawing room) with enormous fireplace, the sense of peace and tranquility is apparent. The grounds surrounding the house offer wonderful walks, therefore all guests have plenty of private space and yet the communal areas offer great entertaining possibilities. The pool area overlooking olive grove and vines is a panacea for the senses. The house has been restored using traditional materials of the region and has excellent green credentials with a low carbon footprint. The house provides luxurious villa accommodation whilst retaining its original farmhouse feel. All bedrooms have overhead ceiling fans and all rooms have insect screens. For children there are cots, high chairs and a buggy as well as an abundance of games. For the adults, think of wine tastings, cooking courses and so much more. You may never want to leave! For those who like to combine relaxation with sightseeing, there are many wonderful towns within easy driving distance such as Cortona, Citta Di Castello and Perugia.

We can even offer Italian immersion courses at the house.

There is an an abundance of books and plenty of secluded areas to sit and read.

About Christine Cartey

Torricella is owned by Iain and Sophie and their three children. We were lucky enough to be posted to Naples for three years and immediately fell in love with Italy. It was towards the end of our stay there, after having travelled all over Italy, that we decided Umbria was where we wanted to put down roots. Torricella, even in its dilapidated state, was all that we were looking for in an Italian house. A four year restoration project brought it back to life and has given us a family home in the most wonderful setting. Although we currently live in Paris, we intend to live permanently in Torricella one day, sharing this special place with family and friends. Torricella provides the perfect holiday location for families with young children or teenagers, and for groups of friends.

Christine Cartey purchased this farmhouse in 2010

Why Christine Cartey chose Umbria

You will know as soon as you arrive at Torricella – the view simply takes your breath away! The house sits on the saddle of a hill at the angle of two valleys above an olive grove, affording magnificent views to both the south and the west. We have sited both the pool and the terrace to take best advantage of this panorama. Umbria remains so unspoilt and relatively undiscovered; it has a wealth of culture, tradition and cuisine that is unique to it and yet the great art cities of Italy are within easy reach. We have found the local people to be extremely open and welcoming, and we have enjoyed making new friendships every time we visit.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The setting. The early morning mist in the valley sits below the house, and the hills opposite resemble floating islands. In the evening, the bells of the churches ring out as the sun sets on the terrace. We have five acres of grounds so children are free to explore and make plenty of noise. Renovation. Our builder is a craftsman who has restored Torricella beautifully using traditional materials and techniques. The floors have hand laid terracotta and the beams are chestnut supporting traditional tiled ceilings. Green credentials. An important aspect of the renovation was low carbon footprint but without compromising on aesthetics. Most of our hot water comes from solar panels hidden on the roof, as does a significant proportion of the electricity. We also have a heat pump.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We spent 7 blissful days at Torricella, captivated by the breathtaking view which was never out of sight, basking in the sun at the beautiful pool area and so delighted by the amenities that the house provided. Newly renovated, we were thoroughly impressed with the well stocked kitchen, the beautifully designed bathrooms, and thoughtfully decorated bedrooms. We even enjoyed a constant flow of music that was provided in the well-stocked and broad collection of CD's. Among many highlights were the two evenings we enjoyed fabulous dinners prepared in the kitchen by two local chefs. We could not have been happier with the week we spent at Torricella and highly recommend it for others to enjoy.

Fantastic view, perfect relaxing holidays

  • 4 of 5

Everything was well above our expectations! We spent 2 very relaxing weeks, perfect for our annual leave. View is just amazing, kitchen is fully fully furnished, the house is just perfect. Good tips from the house manager who was very helpful. We spent most of our time by the pool and also enjoyed the visits around Assisi, Perugia,...

We will do it again, we were 2 families and the house is really big so it allows for privacy and the many bedrooms could accommodate our 6 children + 2 couples.
