Cabin in Boroughbridge, Harrogate, Yorkshire, England - Peaceful Countryside Location Also Convenient For Harrogate, York, The Dales And North Yorks Moors
About David Cullen
I am an independent private owner living around 50 minutes away from the Lodge.
David Cullen purchased this Cabin in 2008
Why David Cullen chose North York
I bought it from new whilst working in the area and as a 'retreat' from my busy life as a company director and management consultant. The location was perfect as it was peaceful yet only 5 minutes from the A1M. As I have now decided to settle up here in 'the North', I have less regular need of it as a retreat and wish to offer others the benefit too!

Base for exploring Yorkshire - Dales and Vale of York
Very convenient to main highway network. Quiet and pleasant site. Spacious lodge with good facilities.
Would benefit from more explanation of how to work the central heating
My partner, myself and 2 small children spent bank holiday weekend here, great fully equipped lodge, lovely and clean and cosy. Absolutely fine wi-if signal 😊About a half hour drive from York but adequate shops and facility only 5 mins away in lovely little Boroughbridge. Kids loved their ‘Holiday home’ and were sad to leave. Would definitely recomend !
If you're looking for peace and quiet away from all the electronics its perfect
Absolutely perfect I couldn't have wished for a more peaceful and quiet a break away from all the noise and Hustle and bustle of the city I enjoyed a visit to York Ripon and other places it's quite easy to navigate from there and you do have a perfect Wi-Fi connection if you need it I would love to book again sometime in the future
4 of us stayed in this lodge with a dog, it was spacious and clean. Nice showers and bathrooms, with clean bedding. Loved Boroughbridge pretty much everywhere was dog friendly. There is a lots of fields on site but one little field was all enclosed so my dog loved running around off his lead and we had peace of mind. Close enough to lots of things so plenty of days out! Couldn’t recommend enough.
Fully equipped lodge, clean and great location. Perfect. Thank you
Here’s the good and the bad for future renters. The good was a nice ensuite shower, clean bathrooms, vacuumed floors, washer/dryer, convenient private parking, quiet, good heating and fabric couches. The bad included dirty utensils, pots/pans and bed cover which had human and likely animal hair on it that we had to rewash, the clapped out dining chairs (you sink into a deep, uncomfortable hole in each one because of the wear), the lack of a fan to deal with the high heat we experienced on several days and most important the totally inadequate WiFi service. The WiFi is sourced from the adjacent caravan park and we had to pay extra for it (all other places we’ve stayed in provide this service, similar to including hot water and electricity, in the fee). We expected at least to be able to watch a few videos at night, check email, surf, etc., as we have been able to do at all of the other numerous UK properties that we have rented. Instead, the rep for the WiFi service recommended that we not watch any video since it would use up the small allowance quickly (10 GBP for 3.5 gb for one week) so we didn’t.
We then discovered that the very weak signal made it virtually impossible to even do web basics such as checking email or surfing sites because we either couldn’t get on the web at all or at best the connectivity kept dropping and was as slow as dial-up. In our case when we travel good reliable WiFi is an absolute must for us and had we known the aforementioned it would have been an absolute deal breaker for renting this property. So be warned if this is important to you.
Otherwise, this is an adequate place to stay since it’s close to York, Harrogate and other wonderful places to visit in North Yorkshire. By the way, you may have new owners since this property up for sale, but the WiFi is sourced from the adjacent caravan park.
Nearest airport is Leeds/ Bradford.
Nearest mainline stations are Northallerton and York, both equidistant north and south of the lodge respectively.
A car is fairly essential, as although there is a good bus service through Boroughbridge, it is infrequent. The A1M is only 5 minutes away from the lodge.
Roecliffe is 10 minutes' walk away
Boroughbridge- 5 minutes' drive
Ripon- 15 minutes' drive
Harrogate- 25 minutes' drive.
York- 30 minutes' drive
The Lodge is situated at the end of the Boroughbridge Camping and Caravanning Club site in Bar Lane. Its location close the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks makes it a good base for those wanting to explore Yorkshire’s many attractions.
The River Ure runs past one side of the site, in view of the lodge and provides somewhere to relax and watch the world float by. The campsite benefits from recently refurbished facilities, it also has a well-stocked shop and a large area for ball games.
There are a number of walking opportunities from site. The old market town of Boroughbridge is within walking distance and hosts all local amenities, including banks, good local shops for produce, wine etc- with a Spar and a Morrisons for general supplies. It has a good range of restaurants and pubs.
There are circular walks too, or you can enjoy a stroll along the river and to Ripon.
The delightful Harrogate – great for shopping and Betty’s Tearoom – and the city of York – with its famous minster and the Jorvik Viking Centre – are a drive away while Fountains Abbey, Studley Royall and Newby Hall make interesting days out.
Closer to home, The Crown Inn is situated off Roecliffe village green and is 10 minute's walk away- a delightful, friendly gastropub which is highly recommended.
There are tourist leaflets at the lodge, describing the many nearby attractions including those at York and further afield. There are also guide books describing some good local and other walks, which we have tried and enjoyed!
