Definitely on our "must return" list.
Our only disappointment is that we only spent three nights here but will definitely be back. Andrew and Fiona were the perfect hosts and the cottage itself was everything we had hoped for (and more). The location is just wonderful and the views across the open countryside to the hills are magnificent, especially with sunrise. We were looking for somewhere peaceful to relax and we found it here but still within a short drive to Oswestry and Shrewsbury (great for shopping especially the indoor market) and into Snowdonia. As there were only the two of us the cottage offered loads of room but even with four it would be very comfortable. We couldn't fault the level of equipment, the comfort of the bedrooms or the twin bathroom facilities and the gardens and landscaping just round off a perfect retreat on the Welsh border. For a longer stay there is a washing machine and dryer in the adjacent chalet. While tea, coffee and milk (and Welsh cakes) are provided we do recommend that you stock up on food and drink before you get here - that way you can just sit back on the patio, relax and take it all in.
COMFORTABLE, RELAXING WELSH COTTAGE
Absolutely loved our stay at Pentre Barn Annexe. The cottage was just perfect, everything required for a chilled break. The wood burner was fab, plenty of space and two bathrooms which was great. We walked from Llangynon over to the waterfall which was strenuous but the views were stunning, hardly saw anyone apart from at the waterfall. Lovely walk from Llangynon to the little church, saw loads of red kites and buzzards. Will definitely be back, such an overlooked part of Wales.

Absolutely lovely in every respect
Pentre Barn Annexe is a lovely little cottage, warm, comfortable, fully equipped, beautifully designed with views to die for. The gardens are charming. The owners are delightful, welcoming and helpful and made our stay there a pleasure. There are lots of nearby attractions. Possibly the only thing some people might not like are the two field gates that need to be opened and closed - it is wonderfully (but seriously) secluded - might be a problem in winter? But we didn't find it a problem at all.
I can't praise this holiday enough - the best cottage we've ever stayed in. I do hope we can stay here again.
A perfect little cottage
We have stayed at Pentre Barn several times now, and each time it has been excellent. The annexe is very nicely decorated and furnished and just the right size for a small family. In nicer weather we have enjoyed sitting out on the patio enjoying the view and walking up into the hills behind, on colder rainy days it has been pleasantly cosy inside with the woodburning stove going. Andrew has always been a very welcoming and helpful host, we look forward to our next visit.
Not quite what we expected!
The cottage was certainly very well equipped although it was alot smaller than the cottages we usually stay in. It was very peaceful and the beds were comfortable and the water was hot we had the upstairs bedroom the shower was fab! The owners of the cottage were very friendly and very approachable l would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone that wants to relax and wind down from the rat race !
Thank you for the kind words. We are sorry you found our cottage rather smaller than you expected. We try to make our visitors' stay comfortable but there is not much we can do to change the space available.
Lovely and quiet. You are spoilt by all the scenery just a few steps away, literally.
I’ll keep this brief, this property is a bargain in my opinion. It’s lovely and clean and the owners are really nice friendly people. For the money we paid I really think it’s great value. The only thing I’d like to see improved is it would be nice if the WiFi was better. You can get good 4g signal on o2 round there so maybe get a mobile 4g broadband package instead of through the phone line? That would be my advice to the owners, to look into a 4g mobile broadband package instead of through the phone lines.
But you know what, I’m being really picky there when I say that because WiFi aside this cottage is perfect. Me and my girlfriend and Bella the border collie loved our stay here and we’ll definitely be back. Thank you to Andrew and Fiona for making us feel so welcome.
One last thing, if you do book this place and you get there and you come to a closed gate with a field full of sheep in front of you with a path/road on the left. Open the gate and keep going! Lol. You drive to the other end of the field, go through another gate and the cottage is just past there. You wouldn’t think it was there, but it is.
If you’re thinking of booking this cottage, go ahead and do it! You won’t be disappointed trust me.
Thank you for the kind words and recommendations. We are aware of the problems with broadband and, until now, have considered it as one of the penalties of living in an idyllic location.
4g has only been available in the last few months and we'll certainly investigate using it.
