About this property
Farmhouse With Private Heated Pool (June to Sept)
The House is believed to have been a Farm house built in the late 19th century by a local vineyard owner. Divided into two residences for over a hundred years the history of the house can be seen in the new beams in part of the lounge and the lack of a handrail for the staircase. Local history says that the vineyard owner who had the house built to his specification never completed the house (and staircase) because he lost all his money in the phylloxera epidemic which destroyed most of the vineyards in France. The history of the house is still seen in its name which means 'beautiful well' and reflects the tiny well in the grounds and is the name of a Bordeaux wine for which the region is famous together with its other celebrated drink - Cognac. The house itself is spacious and airy and would suit a group holiday as there are 3 living areas and four double bedrooms with four bathrooms including a bath and 2 showers. The house is well equipped and is a safe environment for young children with its enclosed gardens, incorporating a private heated pool. Tucked away in the corner of a quiet village, the house and grounds provide privacy and relaxation in this beautiful part of the French countryside.
The house is in a quiet village so please respect our neighbours by restricting noise outside the property to before 10pm.

Lovely peaceful traditional property with modern amenities
Lovely traditional property with modern amenities with a good size pool. Very peaceful rural location. Excellent communication from the owners of the property and Mr and Mrs Keys, the property managers, were extremely helpful and accommodating. You will need a car to access supermarkets/sight seeing etc. but there are lots of beautiful areas to see. Cognac is beautiful and reasonably close. There is a summer festival there that takes place but you do have to pre book tickets online but it sounded sizeable with live music etc. La Rochelle, about an hour or so away, is also beautiful and has lots of lovely seafood restaurants along the front.
Thank you so much for a wonderful couple of weeks. The house was perfect and the pool provided endless entertainment for the children. We would love to come back again!

My name is Chris Plews and I live and work in Oxfordshire. I am the FD of a company in Witney but enjoy visiting France whenever I can with my family.
Why they chose this property
We bought in Charente-Maritime following several years of family holidays in the area. As well as enjoying the French language and culture we found the area to be unspoilt and combining the best of the countryside with easy access to beaches. When our children were small, the region was within half a day's drive from the ferries yet far enough south to get better weather.
What makes this property unique
Having owned one half of the house for ten years, we purchased the rest when it became available in 2012. Since the it has been extensively renovated and modernised including the installation of a private heated swimming pool in 2014.
