About the property

Bell Busk, Malhamdale, Skipton, Yorkshire Dales, England - Peaceful Location In Beautiful Pastoral Setting With Panoramic Views

Please contact us before booking. Granville House in Bell Busk is a 400 year old Yorkshire Laithe, now a popular location for gatherings of families and friends. You will have amazing views from all windows. This is tranquility realised, a hidden gem that will leave you feeling happier and healthier. Your holiday home is spacious, cosy and characterful, sitting along the old drovers track cycle route 68 and is a good starting point for the Pennine Way. Granville House is on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park in Malhamdale and not far from the AONB of the Forest of Bowland. A paradise for nature lovers. There are otters in the River Aire and Otterburn Beck. Spot the kingfishers too. In the evening watch out for bats and owls or study the night sky without light pollution and be mindful of the hares, rabbits, deer or badgers as you drive along. The aurora can be seen from here. We provide bird seed for your bird table too.

This is farming country and England at its best. Depending on the time of year, we either have spring lambs being born in the field opposite or gambling and pronking around in full view. After that the same field is often used for birthing calves up until mid autumn.

Bell Busk is nowadays a sleepy ancient hamlet, but it used to be the main terminus for the Dales when we had a railway station and silk mill. Before that the Romans were here walking up and down our lane. It is as tranquil or bustling as you want it to be. The countryside is beautiful and uncrowded but good facilities are within easy reach. There are lots of things to do round here with walks and cycle trails straight from your door.

You can shop till you drop in Skipton, Settle, Clitheroe or Ilkley or wander round the picturesque villages of Grassington, Malham, Haworth and Kirkby Lonsdale. You will have your very own mini tourist information centre to hand with leaflets and organised folders to help you plan your perfect holiday. You will find everything you need for a relaxing short break or month long holiday. There are games, DVDs, books, magazines, IPOD dock, 6MB WIFI and a TV with some satellite channels. There is a piano with sheet music and guitar. The hand built bespoke wooden kitchen is a cooks dream with good quality equipment, an Aga ( so always warm and cosy on arrival) and an Aga easy recipe book. The kitchen is a great sociable place.

The bedrooms are spacious and furnished luxuriously, with 4 poster bed in the master bedroom. The bath is big enough for 2. You will even have central heating and a log burner.

Just 1.5 miles away you will find a swimming pool and spa, fly fishing, archery, clay pigeon shooting, an off roading experience or falconry. The nearest bar there has 2 big open fires, choice of restaurants and amazing views. You will find cosy characterful fantastic gastro pubs nearby or the award winning Indian restaurant in Gargrave.

The garden is large at the back with table and chairs, we provide picnic blankets too, but there is an unfenced pond and an unfenced drop so children must be supervised at all times. Malham Cove can be seen from the back garden. The garden at the front is small and safe with table and chairs. There is off road parking for 3 cars. Granville House is 15 mins drive from the ancient town of Skipton, with medieval castle, 4 day market, canal, many shops, tea rooms, restaurants and pubs. Easy access by road and rail. The local village of Gargrave has a well stocked Co-Op, a delicious deli and fish and chip shop. Hellifield, Aireton and Cracoe sell local produce. Settle, Malham and Grassington are also very close. Nearby places to visit include; Malham Cove, Gordale Scar, Ingleborough, Pen Y Ghent, Whernside, Pendle Hill and The Pennine Way, The Trough of Bowland, Forest of Bowland, Gisburn Forest, Settle Carlisle Railway, Embsay and Keighley Steam Railways, Bolton Abbey, Skipton Castle, Grassington, Hawes, Haworth, Clitheroe, Ilkley, Harrogate, Saltaire, Leeds and York.

About Jeanne Hine

We are a working professional couple, who love country life. We often work from home.

Our hobbies are varied and include many outdoor pursuits and gardening.

We love what we have and we are happy to share it with you.

Jeanne Hine purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Jeanne Hine chose North Yorkshire

We meant to downsize when our children fledged but we fell in love with Granville House because of the views.

Once you are here, you will feel completely relaxed and quite far away but in reality Bell Busk is very easy to access just 1 mile from the A65, it is not cut off and does not take hours to reach along winding lanes. It's a little gem.

What makes this cottage unique

Our special features would include the views, the very large well stocked garden and the light aspect. If the sun is shining, it will shine on Granville House.

Indoors, there is a luxurious amount of space, a 4 poster bed, a log burner, piano and guitar, a wonderful bespoke kitchen with Aga and a roll top bath. Outside you will find plenty of wildlife and you may even see the aurora because of the dark sky. You can feed our hens or the wild birds too. If you are lucky you will see a steam train. We pride ourselves on our cleanliness too.

“Top class!”

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2014

What a lovely house! It's obvious from all the reviews on here that this house is fantastic, and it lives up to that billing and more!

There are amazing views, big comfy beds, fab furnishings, a big tele, fab walks from the doorstep, a locally crafted kitchen, boot/drying room, big garden, cozy aga, wood burner etc. Absolutely everything has been thought of and been provided by the owners, who live next door. They are friendly and welcoming, but unobtrusive.

I don't think you could get a better house in the Dales. Could not recommend highly enough.

Lovely cosy relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we stepped inside it felt so cosy and homely, loved cooking on the Aga so easy to use. Lovely views from all windows, great watching the birds from the kitchen window, the owners supply bird food. There was a robin we nicknamed him "Bully boy" as he kept guard over the bird table and kept chasing the other birds away, it was funny to watch! The house felt so warm with the Aga and the log burner going. Great walks right from the front door and the surrounding area, ideal base for visiting Grassington, Skipton and Settle. Richard, Jeanne and Russet the dog were very friendly and made us feel very at home. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and feel so relaxed it will be hard going back to work! Will definitely recommend!

Granville House is beautiful. I stayed there with five friends a couple of weeks ago, and we had a lovely weekend. The house is spacious, full of light and very clean. It's tastefully decorated throughout - the owners clearly care about the small details. The kitchen is well equipped, and we soon got used to cooking on the Aga. It was lovely to relax in the living room on Sunday morning with the winter sunshine streaming through the window. I highly recommend this property.

Relaxing, Peaceful,Spacious.

  • 4 of 5

Granville House is comfortable, clean, well maintained and equiped. The position is ideally suited

for touring the The North Yorks. National Park(walking distance to Malam), The Forest of Bowland and the Lakes.

The owners who live in the adjacent house are very helpul and friendly without being obtrusive. The property is

well equiped and gardens well maintained. A lot of thought has gone into making this a comfortable holiday home.

A very enjoyable relaxing holiday within striking distance of good pubs and restaurants.

Owner's Response: I wrote to this gentleman and said, You have said some very nice things and so we are shocked with only 4 out of 5 stars. Please let us know where we could have tried harder. Where did we slip up. His reply, Dear Jeanne and Richard, Sorry about 4 stars I guess I would rate 5 stars as absolute perfection in every way, on a 100 scale I would have rated 99.

Immaculate Cottage in a Quiet Country Lane

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for an exceptionally good property to stay in, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, then you need look no further than Granville House. We really could not fault the property - everything was of the highest quality and this was greatly appreciated by all 6 adults who shared this break. Although the master bedroom has the advantage of the en suite all the bedrooms are absolutely beautiful, so there is no problem if, like us, you are trying to share the cost between you. Nobody will feel they have to 'make do' with an inferior room at Granville House - such a thing just does not exist there! We spent 4 very pleasant nights introducing relatives, visiting from Australia, to the area. Having never set foot in the Dales before they wanted to stay 'somewhere close enough to be able to get to other places'. In the event we never drove more than a few miles from the property and enjoyed a couple of very pleasant walks directly from the house. Our Australian brother-in-law is returning home with a map of the Dales so that he can plan his next visit - a very active senior citizen he wants to hire a bike next time and also walk more of the Pennine Way! All thoughts of being able to escape to the much busier Lake District appear to have been forgotten!

If you are slightly less active there are plenty of places of interest to visit close-by, we particularly enjoyed Grassington. There are pubs offering food as well as liquid refreshment but if, like us, you prefer to self cater most of the time then rest assured all the pots and pans you might possibly need are available at Granville House. Incidentally, I had never used an Aga to cook with before but once I had read the instructions I did not have a problem.

One of the things we all particularly liked was the amount of information, in the Welcome Pack at the house, about the history of the property and also the local area. The owners have clearly gone to considerable trouble to collate this for their visitors. In addition there is a wealth of information about things to do further afield. It's a bit like having a tourist information centre all to yourselves - you can sit round the dining table with a cup of tea whilst perusing the brochures and maps and discussing what you might like to do next!

I hope this review helps to answer some of the questions other people might have when considering renting the property. I would not hesitate to recommend it to friends and family.
