Photos and Description of this Stithians holiday barn

Barn in Stithians, Nr. Falmouth, Cornwall, England - Granite Barn Conversion, Peaceful Rural Setting, 15 Mins Walk From Lake And 15 Mins Drive To Beach.

Brand new to the market in 2015, The Dairy is a charming grade 2 listed barn conversion adjoining the farmhouse and was recently converted (by the current owners) from two barns, which were previously a milking parlour and piggery. It has a bright lounge/diner with a vaulted ceiling, cosy wood burner and French doors opening out onto the courtyard and garden; two double bedrooms, two bathrooms and a modern fully equipped kitchen. It is contemporary in style and has been decorated with local artwork. The Dairy has its own drive with parking for two cars and we welcome well behaved dogs.

Set in a tranquil location, The Dairy overlooks the courtyard and garden with patio table and chairs and a barbecue. The garden is terraced over three lawned levels and great for garden games. It has a tree swing and a sunken trampoline. The Dairy was once part of the Tretheague Estate with it’s Grade II* listed Georgian Manor house built in 1744 by architect Thomas Edwards. All the old farm buildings are now restored and complete this lovely little hamlet: Tretheague Barton, The Farmhouse, The Cottage, The Dairy, The Piggery, The Granary and The Smithy. The Dairy lies on the edge of Stithians village and is perfectly situated for exploring both the North and South coasts of Cornwall. Truro, Helford Passage, Helston, Redruth and Camborne Mining Heritage, Newquay, St Ives, Padstow, the Lizard, Lands End, Penzance, Mousehole are all within touching distance.

About Jane Williams

Jane And Gwyn would love to welcome you to the Dairy. We have been living in Cornwall since 2002 and absolutely love the life we have. We have two children Bethany and Benjamin 16 and 14 respectively. We moved to Stithians in 2007 and converted the barn initially as ancillary accommodation for relatives and now have recently updated it for holiday letting. We are happy to help in anyway we can to make your holiday as pleasant and enjoyable as possible.

Jane Williams purchased this barn in 2007

Why Jane Williams chose Cornwall

We moved down to Cornwall in 2002 and bought a holiday park which we successfully ran for 6 years but with our children growing up fast we wanted to have a bit more quality time with them and so sold the park and moved to Stithians. We were attracted to it because it is off the beaten track in a nice little hamlet of five or six renovated barns but still close to the village . Stithians is a great location as it is equidistant from the bustling harbour town of Falmouth with its quaint cobbled streets and plethora of bars and restaurants and the city of Truro with its cathedral, shops, and further choice of restaurants. Also being in the middle of the county its great for the choice of north or south coasts , just get up, look at the sky and choose the best coast for the weather

Superb, well equipped, very comfortable accommodation. Well decorated and lovely soft furnishings.

We had a lovely week staying in the barn conversion at Stithians. The accommodation was lovely and equipped with everything you can think of. It was beautifully decorated and furnished and the beds were very comfortable. It was a lovely surprise to find a cream tea, a hamper of goodies and provisions in the fridge when we arrived. There were also fresh flowers in all the rooms. Jane was helpful if we needed her but never intruded. She even brought us candles and candlesticks when we had a short power cut! Thank you for providing us with such a lovely place to stay. We can't fault it in anyway and are happy to recommend it to family and friends. We hope to come back in the future.

Best property we've ever rented

  • 5 of 5

This is the best property we've ever stayed in. In terms of comfort, equipment and cleanliness it would be difficult to beat.

The welcome pack was much more than we expected; a really warm welcome.

Location is great, quiet and peaceful, but close enough to places of interest making it an ideal centre.

Our two dogs loved the adjoining 6 acre field.

We would gladly recommend it and will go back once the A30 upgrade is completed.

Wonderful home from home

  • 5 of 5

The Dairy is a fabulous holiday cottage set in lovely surroundings. The decor and furnishings are first rate, and the Dairy is equipped with everything you could possibly need during your holiday, from washer / dryer to full Sky TV package and a cupboard full of family board games which was a wonderful surprise. Thanks to Jane and Gwyn for the hamper, fresh flowers and stocked fridge - just what we needed after a long drive from the North East. We can't recommend the Dairy enough as a holiday cottage from which to explore the delights of Cornwall. Also provided is a well thought out guide to everywhere you could wish to visit, from local bars and restaurants to a whole load of sights and attractions.

Thanks again to Jane & Gwyn for a lovely holiday cottage.

Ian, Cheryl & Liv Bell.

The perfect holiday home from home!

  • 5 of 5

We felt very lucky to have found this place and spent 2 amazing weeks here. We are 2 adults & 2 children aged 7 & 2.

The owners were on holiday when we arrived & during our stay but still left beautiful scones, clotted cream, milk, eggs, bread, butter etc and beautiful flowers to make us feel so welcome (especially after our 7+ hour journey). The children loved the large garden, trampoline & swing and the cow duvet covers in their room. They enjoyed playing on their bikes/scooter on the Tarmac drive at the back of the house too. Great games cupboard & great to have sky & be able to download films to watch when kids in bed.

The old dairy is very well finished to a high standard and the original features which have been, kept like the stones in the walls, are just beautiful. Very very well equipped kitchen including some children's plates etc (Peppa pig - our daughter was very happy!)

One thing to be aware of if you do have very young children is that the bedrooms are at opposite ends of the house with the lounge & kitchen (& about 4 steps) in between. Also lots of steps up to the garden & from the lounge down to the courtyard. It didn't really pose us a problem, just needed to watch the little one and help her. We used the back kitchen entrance more where the car was parked & no steps.

It is a beautiful, peaceful location for exploring all of Cornwall - we went as far as Porthcurno in one direction which was about an hour and llanhyrock (NT) near Bodmin in the other direction also an hour. Falmouth is 10 mins by car to the town/Gyllyngvase beach etc. St Ives, Padstow, st Michaels mount again easily reachable in around 40 mins approx. loads of other beaches within a 15/20 min drive. Stithians lake with a pub & little play area is a few mins drive, nice for an evening.

We felt like this was our house after 2 weeks as we felt so at home - and are certainly disappointed it's not our house!!!! Loads more to see & do in Cornwall that we couldn't fit in to 2 weeks - we'll be back!! Thanks so much Jane & Gwynn.

Lovely Place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We returned a couple of weeks ago from a lovely trip to Cornwall the Dairy Barn was an excellent base for travelling around Cornwall. The level of attention to detail was superb; we have stayed in many self catering places this was by far one of the best. The owners were 'hands off' despite living next to the barn. Ideal for bike riding to Stathians lake the Golden Lion pub has great food, the local pub was also good for a meal. Would certainly recommend this gorgeous accommodation.
