About Manor Scourfield
We are both retired headteachers who have chosen this new lifestyle.I was born and bread in west Wales and my wife is from Devon. We met while teaching in London area and relocated to the west country when we married in 1975.We thoroughly enjoy what we are now doing as we meet such a variety of interesting people who come and stay from one night to two weeks. We spend a lot of time in the garden which is Ann's pride and joy and she would spend as much time as possible tending it with much love and care. I think she prefers the company of the garden to that of me ! We try and get out as much as possible and enjoy our surroundings which never fails to amaze us. We feel so blessed with our home and area.
Manor Scourfield purchased this House in 2007
Why Manor Scourfield chose Nether Stowey
It provided us with both a home and a business opportunity, Both of us like to be busy and with this property there is always something to do. We have 3 holiday cottages even though one of them is on the top floor of our house. It is unique and has so many unusual features. It is independent of the rest of the house so we call it a cottage. It is very popular and well liked by our visitors. Our part of the house is well proportioned and Georgian in design and thus offers us something that we were unlikely to enjoy in smaller properties. We see it it very much as a lifestyle that many would like but could not afford. The house has strong links with Tom Poole and the poets Coleridge and Wordsworth who are credited with the formation of the Romantic movement. Some of their best poetry was written whilst living in the area.
What makes this House unique
The history of this place is quite atmospheric and the garden a joy. It is so quiet and inspirational and no wonder the poets drew inspiration for its surroundings. The walled garden was a definite attraction as it provides privacy and peace. You can move around and enjoy the different aspects, the light and shade creates such different atmospheres to savour.

So very welcoming!
We have had the most lovely stay in House Keepers, from being made to feel so very welcome on arrival the little touches mean so much, set in such beautiful grounds. Facilities and apartment were everything you could want and more, the most fabulous shower and such comfortable beds. Lovely village with perfect pub food so no need to travel. Situated within fabulous countryside, reasonable driving distance of so many fantastic attractions, any help or suggestions you need just ask Ann & Manor, the greatest of hosts, nothing was too much trouble! We have so much more to see. A huge huge thank you for a wonderful break, just sorry it was over so quickly.
Thank you so much for such lovely and comprehensive review. It was a real pleasure to have you stay and you were wonderful guests. Thank you also for leaving the HK in such lovely order.

A warm welcome to a delightful apartment
Housekeeper's Quarters provided us with just what we needed when meeting up with old friends. It is spacious and gave us plenty of room to sit, chat and catch up. It is well equipped, extremely comfortable and warm. We felt at home immediately. Ann's cherry cake was waiting for us in the kitchen along with good bread, butter, milk and tea.
The house has a beautiful garden which we roamed around. Must be great in the summer.
Nether Stowey has several pubs - one which serves food. We ate there and at others in nearby villages. There are plenty of recommendations in the folder in the sitting room.
Thank you Ann for looking after us so well!
How thoughtful to write such a comprehensive and generous review. We are very pleased that you all enjoyed your stay and were comfortable. Most importantly we are pleased you enjoyed the carnival and hope it brought back happy memories for your husband. Hopefully you will visit again in the summer months .
Very comfortable, roomy and quirky accommodation
Everything we needed. Owners helpful and always available if there were any queries.
Only thing missing in the kitchen was a pair of scissors and oven gloves, but very clean and tidy accommodation in a lovely village with a good pub!
Lovely house with even better gardens.
Great place to stay for walking in the Quantocks. Not to far for the beaches either.
Thank you so much for your review and we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at The Old House. Please do come and visit again.

Schöne Unterkunft, toller Garten
Sehr freundlicher Empfang durch die Gastgeber, viele gute Tipps für Unternehmungen, große ausgefallene Wohnung, toller Garten.
Nether Stowey has 3 pubs, two of which offer food. There is a butcher with a wet fish counter. The Coleridge Way walk starts its 56 mile trek from here. The walking opportunity from here to the top of the Quantock Hills are very popular and the views to die for. The Quantocks were the first area in England to be designated as an AONB ( Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and once you visit you will understand why. Wild ponies and deer roam freely and are a bebautiful sight.Walks incluse Triscombe Stone where you can enjoy 360 degree view of Taunton Vale, Blackdown Hills, the Mendips ,and Exmoor National Park as well as Bridgwater bay and South Wales. So much from one spot
There are plenty of good eating places from cafes to pubs to fine dining! Nether Stowey is centrally placed to vist the several National Trust homes and Heritage buildings, There are so many within 45 mins in every direction.
For those in need of retail therapy there is Clarks Village outlet and Cribbs Causeway. Those preferring golf can visit a municipal course at Cannington (2x 9 hole) or the excellent Enmore course which has hosted the England ladies open competition. County cricket at Taunton and theatres at Bridgwater and Taunton.
All in all there is so much on offer.
