Photos and Description of this Cleggan holiday farmhouse

Farmhouse in Cleggan, Connemara, Co. Galway, Ireland - Peaceful Setting

The Farm House lies at the entrance to Cleggan Farm, on the slopes of Cleggan Hill, beside the Wild Atlantic Way. It is surrounded by its own woodland garden with open fields and a mountain stream with a fine view of the 12 Pins to the East, and the main farm buildings on the West side. It has always been a family home and we have maintained the warm ambiance and decor, a feature often commented upon by guests. Whilst it is an old house, we have furnished it with modern conveniences, including Wi-Fi throughout the house. There are two twin bedrooms, and one double room with en-suite. A feature is the games room, much appreciated on wet days.

Cleggan Farm is an ideal setting as a base to explore the beauty of Connemara.

About Michael Musgrave

Cleggan Farm has been lived in by our family since 1850 and this lovely family house came to us by inheritance, and the farm is now run by our nephew. We live and work in the UK but get back to Cleggan frequently.

Why Michael Musgrave chose Connemara

The 750 acre hill farm is bounded by the Atlantic. It is primarily stocked with black faced mountain sheep, but now also has a small flock of Alpacas. Connemara ponies are naturally to be seen on the farm. The farm hillside features a megalithic tomb.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Cleggan Farm is an ideal setting as a base to explore the beauty of Connemara. Equally this is a comfortable family home for easy days of relaxing or reading without external pressures.

Farm House, On The Atlantic Coast
average rating of 4.0 based on 1 reviews

Bel endroit

  • 4 of 5

Cleggan beach is within walking distance, forming a part of the Wild Atlantic Way. Numerous sandy beaches are accessible within a few kilometres drive.

A car would normally be needed to enjoy a holiday based in The Farm House -- either bring your own, or easily rented at the airports. Knock Ireland West Airport is a two hour drive NorthWest of us via Castlebar and Westport. Shannon Airport, from the South via Galway City, now takes two and a half hours with the much improved road.

Dublin is under four hours away.

Cleggan village on the other side of the bay is 2km away by road. We are 11km from Clifden, 10km from Letterfrack, 33km from Leenane, 88km from Galway, and 294km from Dublin (3hrs 40minutes drive)

Further Details:

Cleggan Farm, in the heart of Connemara, is an ideal setting as a base to explore the beauty of this spectacular region. The ferry for the magnificent and tranquil Inishbofin leaves from Cleggan. The mountains, lakes and coastline of Connemara are stunning, , with many beautiful beaches easily accessed.

Golf, horse riding, deep sea angling, trout and salmon fishing, and scuba diving are all available in the vicinity. Of course visits to the beach and hill walking are readily available throughout the region. We are 8km away from the Connemara National Park.

Clifden the capital of Connemara is 10km away, a lively town with lots of cafes pubs and restaurants, and the tourist office, shops and supermarkets, banks, post office and the centre for organised historical and archaeological tours. At night there is plenty of Irish music based in the many pubs. In September Clifden Arts week features plays, poetry, music galore and much else.

Cleggan village nearby has four pubs, a good restaurant and grocery store.
