I came to France in 2012 from Australia for 3 months. I fell in love with the Moulin and with a Frenchman and stayed. We have spent the last 2 years making my vision of gites on the property into a reality.
Anne Morgan-Menzato purchased this cottage in 2012
Having spent a few months in the area I came with friends to look at a watermill. I had no intention of buying anything but when I saw it I immediately felt calm and at home, away from the hustle and bustle of my busy corporate life in Australia.
The Petit Moulin is in easy access distance of Jarnac and Cognac for shopping and restaurants but is set in the old part of Veillard. A friendly location with the added advantage of the Boulangerie in walking distance.
On of my favourite things here is the bird life. We have a pair of kingfishers who can be seen regularly on the little bridge in the garden, watching for fish. Ducks in the garden, a Heron, Egret and many others passing by.
Prices are for the property per week for up to the number of persons stated for each gite and are quoted in Euro. Prices include:- linen and towels changed weekly, hot water and electricity.
Notes on prices:
With a couple more cottages to complete there is a small amount of evidence of stored materials around and our prices are low to reflect this.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Le Petit Moulin. The accommodation was clean and comfortable, and well equipped for self catering. The garden was an added bonus after a long day touring the neighbouring villages. Christian made us very welcome and ensured that we were comfortable by making contact each day. Monty the dog was also very friendly and loved a game of fetch the ball!
Petit Moulin is very well located for touring the region, being a short distance from Cognac and Jarnac. We also followed the recommendations in the house book and went to La Rochelle(well worth the trip), Saintes( a lovely town with lots of history) and Aubeterre(great for wandering and finding hidden gems). Another village we found interesting was Jonzac.
We would recommend this property to others, but they need to be aware that traffic/train noise can be a hindrance while in the garden. Inside it was not a problem. We found the bed a little too hard for our liking, though still managed to get a good nights sleep after busy days.
The owners Anne and Christian have thought through every detail in these Gites. We stayed in the smallest one, Esprit, which is perfect for two adults. There is a large bed with high quality bed linen, massive bath towels (rare in French accommodation!) sharp knives and a set of good pans in the kitchen. These tick all our boxes for a self catering holiday home so within a few minutes of arriving we were settled and very happy with our choice. There is a large shared garden by the water which has lots of different seating and tables, perfect for anytime of day and all safe and secure behind electric gates. Anne is very welcoming and on hand for any queries about the property and the surrounding area, Christian is so friendly and very gracious about our rather pathetic French. Petit Moulin Gites were perfect for our first visit to this area of France.
Very clean and comfortable
TV - English
Nice grounds with plenty of seating areas
Friendly English speaking owner
Very quiet village
Good base for touring the area
Noise from nearby busy major road
We really enjoyed our stay in this gìte it was very comfortable and had everything we needed to fill our needs. A very picturesque garden with a river running through it made a relaxing place to have a glass of wine (or two).
We had our own parking space and easy access to a local bakery.
Ann and her husband were perfect hosts extremely helpful and available to offer information.
We were greeted with a bottle of wine and very nice goodies in refrigerator to start our stay.
Very much appreciated and highly recommended.
Had a super 10 stay at l'esprit. Our second visit to this very clean well equipped Gite. The host Anne and Christian have thought and accommodated for your every need. Whoever books a stay at any of the accomadations will not be disappointed as they are all fitted out to a very high standard. Thankyou so so much.
As we arrived Anne was waiting for us, She showed us the accommodation and offered help to take our luggage in. The accommodation was first class, everything was spotlessly clean. The accommodation had all the facilities you could require from dishwashers and washing machines to a hair drier, it had TV in French or English also videos and a small selections of books. The house is extremely secure with an electric gate, although the area is secluded , in a very quiet and peaceful village by a stream. You can usually park the car outside of the gite but whilst we stayed the roads were being upgraded which is making the village even nicer, with easy access to the main roads it was easy to get about
I have stayed in several gites in France and this has been one of the best. Nice people a quiet location and first class accommodation with excellent service.
I would recomend this gite to anybody wanting a nice quiet relaxing holiday in the French country side
