About this property

Luxurious comfort with breathtaking views in the Chalke Valley near Salisbury.

ABOUT THE BARN
Cleeves House Barn is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) just 2 hours from London and a short walk down the hill to the award winning Horseshoe pub! The Barn is the perfect place to stay if you’re looking for privacy, peace and tranquillity. It’s a wonderful setting for a romantic getaway, family holiday, walking and cycling in glorious countryside, or simply a memorable place to relax and unwind.
The Barn is a lovely peaceful and private space, surrounded by spectacular views. It's totally self contained and separate to our house which is across the courtyard. We have excellent internet speeds of 56mbps download and 5.6 mbps upload.

We live on site but we leave you alone and totally respect your privacy unless you need us. If you do, we are very happy to help out with anything and to ensure your stay is as comfortable and relaxing as possible. We have no neighbours so you can make as much noise as you like.

The Barn allows you very flexible accommodation. So it can work perfectly for 2 for a romantic and relaxing break as well as for two couples wanting to have some time away from it all together, or for 4 friends or for a family of up to 5 (with 2 adults, 3 children and we have a travel cot and high chair too if needed). The Barn has been recently refurbished to the highest standard and you’ll find everything you need for a really comfortable break.

There are plenty of local walks and cycle rides to suit all levels of fitness, and you can enjoy exploring some of the prettiest villages and scenery in the south west of England. Stonehenge, Salisbury Cathedral, Bath, Longleat Safari Park, Corfe Castle, the New Forest National Park and Dorset’s stunning Jurassic coast are just a few of the many places of interest nearby. I provide you with an information folder with lots of local information as well as ordnance survey maps which you are welcome to borrow and some suggested local walks you may enjoy.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS AND BEDS
There is a Superking bed in the main bedroom, 2 beds in the second bedroom, one is a day bed which pulls out to a 5ft double bed with a proper mattress and slatted base, and the other a single bed. There is an additional single bed in the family room downstairs.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SINGLE BED IN THE UPSTAIRS SECOND BEDROOM AND ALSO IN THE DOWNSTAIRS FAMILY ROOM ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR ANYONE OVER 6FT TALL.

BEDROOM 1.
The main bedroom is huge and has west facing floor-to-ceiling windows that mirror those in the sitting room and let the sun stream in during the afternoon. The views across the fields and woods of the Chalke Valley are breath-taking and you will be tempted to have a long lie-in with a cup of tea or coffee whilst reclining on the comfortable super-king size bed.

We provide only the best linen which is professionally laundered: Egyptian cotton sheets, goose and duck down duvets, and lots of feather pillows and cushions to make you feel as comfortable as possible when asleep or just lazing around. We also provide generous sized towels and thick towelling dressing gowns for you to use during your stay.

There are drawers and hanging space in both bedrooms. Efficient central heating will keep you warm on chillier days and nights. A powerful hairdryer is also supplied.

BEDROOM 2.
Has a 5ft double bed and a single bed. These double up as sofas when this room is not needed as a bedroom. There is a lovely balcony where you can sit out and enjoy the breathtaking views. You also have a 42" flat screen TV with Freesat and Netflix with countless channels for you to watch. Plus a DVD player and lots of DVD's. Also super fast broadband giving you free wifi up to 40 MEG. With another dining table and 4 chairs in case you decide you don't want to eat downstairs.

DOWNSTAIRS LIVING ROOM/FAMILY ROOM/SITTING ROOM
This room is huge. Here you have a large and comfy 4 seater sofa, 2 armchairs, beanbags, a football table another dining table and chairs and a 50" TV with professionally installed surround sound, SKY TV/Sky Sport/Apple TV/Netflix/DVD Player, DVD collection. Plus a separate cloakroom with loo and wash hand basin. Loads of room for relaxation and play.

BATHROOM
The bathroom has a full sized enclosed shower cubicle a full size bath with shower mixer, large basin with lever taps and mirror above, and a heated towel rail. However the space IS NOT HUGE, it's fine for a couple, 3 adults or a family with young children.
In addition to lovely big towels and towelling dressing gowns we provide a few toiletries, including loo roll, cotton wool pads, shower gel and hand wash, body lotion, soap and shampoo.

KITCHEN
The kitchen is fully equipped with cooker/hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, kettle, toaster and all the utensils necessary for your stay. Everything you might need such as bin bags, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, cleaning products, cling film, roasting bags, cloths and tea towels is provided for you.
I also leave you a welcome pack with tea and coffee, biscuits, preserves and a few other bits and bobs.

PARKING
The parking area is huge and secure, with an electric gate. There is a walled courtyard flanked by mature beech trees and once parked you walk around the side of the Barn to your own private entrance.

YOUR OUTSIDE SPACE
The Barn’s scenic position and panoramic views are hard to beat. Located within the grounds of Cleeves House, entry is through a solid wooden electric gate. A high wall, ensuring your privacy, and mature trees surround the large parking area and shade the Barn in the summer. You are welcome to store bikes in the undercover area right by your front door.
You have your own garden area with table and chairs directly outside your door.

The village and local amenities.
Ebbesbourne Wake is mentioned in the Domesday Book and lies 12 miles southwest of Salisbury. It's one of the prettiest villages in the Chalke Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), and makes a perfect base for exploring the nearby Dorset coastline, shooting, fishing, walking, cycling, and golf (Rushmore golf course is 15 minutes drive away, and The Open qualifying course, Remedy Oak, is a 25 minute drive).

Near the head of the River Ebble valley, there is the Grade II* listed church of St John the Baptist that has been at the centre of the village since the 15th century.

The Telegraph described the renowned
HORSESHOE PUB as one of the best-kept secrets in the country and it was Alastair Sawday’s winner of the UK’s ‘Most authentic pub’. The landlord Tony and his wife Pat offer a warm welcome, excellent beers from the barrel and good home-cooked food. It’s a quick 10 minute walk down the hill from The Barn or a more scenic and very pretty 20/25 minute walk if you go the long way round. Or literally 3 minutes if you choose to drive!

There are many other fine country pubs and restaurants close by, such as The Compasses Inn, The Queens Head, The King John, The Royal Oak, The Beckford Arms, all around 20 mins away by car where you will find delicious food, good wine and local ales.
The nearest village shop for provisions is in Sixpenny Handley (8 minute drive) has a fantastic general shop (open 7am - 8pm every day) as well as a fine village butchers, Chalke Valley Stores in Broad Chalke (an 8 minute drive) which stocks lots of home grown produce, fresh bread, small deli selection in their well-stocked fridges as well as other basics including newspapers. It is unsurprising that it was a recent winner of the Daily Telegraph/Countryside Alliance award for Best Village Shop/Post Office in the UK. Ludwell shop and post office (15 minute drive) is another award winner and has pretty much everything you could need. Ansty farm shop (15 minute drive) is another local gem and also has PYO soft fruits and berries , and at Tisbury (15 minute drive) you will find a small Co-op, butcher, fishmonger, green grocer, fabulous delicatessen, chemist, florist and coffee shop. All three villages have a post office. Tisbury also has a popular train station which is on the main line to London Waterloo. Salisbury is a 30-minute drive and Shaftesbury (made famous by the original Hovis advertisement filmed on Gold Hill) is 20 minutes away. Both towns have more extensive amenities.

The famous Chalke Valley History Festival is the largest festival dedicated to history in the UK and is a true celebration of the past, offering a unique blend of talks, discussions and debates alongside a vast living history through-the-ages encampment and stunning historic air show.
It takes place in late June/early July every year in the adjacent village of Broad Chalke an 8 minute drive away.

PLACES TO VISIT

The beautiful city of Bath and Longleat Safari Park are about an hour's drive as are the delights of the Jurassic coast, Sherborne Castle, Stourhead gardens and the swannery at Abbotsbury. TOTALLY FABULOUS!!!
Even though we arrived late in the evening, Sarah welcomed us warmly like an old friend and made us feel instantly at home. The eggs, milk, bread and butter were very much appreciated, as were all the additional touches, such as freshly ground coffee. Everything felt very generous, lots of pillows, toiletries... in fact lots of everything needed! The morning light revealed a totally fabulous property with glorious far-reaching views across the beautiful countryside. The house is large and SPOTLESSLY clean. Everything is of a high quality and the enormous bed is divinely comfortable. Wildlife abound in the surrounding fields and the nearby villages are unbelievably pretty. Sorry about all the superlatives - but this really is a lovely place. The only downside was that we were so sad to leave. We will definitely come back!! Thanks so much, Sarah, for a very memorable stay.

Amazing views, amazing hosts
We had a perfect stay. The property was exactly what we expected it to be; very comfortable accommodations, gorgeous views, and peaceful countryside. Our hosts Sarah and Chris were superb and took care of anything we needed. The nearby award winning pub had the very best food and friendly staff and local customers. We highly recommend this fabulous place and look forward to staying there again.
