About Drew & Barb McCormick
Barb & Drew are a retired couple who bought Upper Hagg Cottage as a 'close by' occasional retreat for ourselves and family and we have been so blessed and love it so much we want to share this idyll with others. Drew retired from a role in Quality Consultancy in 2009 after a serious motorcycle accident and Barb, though officially retired, is busy household(s) manager and grandmother to five!
Drew & Barb McCormick purchased this Cottage in 2017
Why Drew & Barb McCormick chose Holmfirth
Whilst originally from Liverpool, Barb & Drew migrated to Huddersfield when first married and fell in love with the Holme valley because of hills and valleys, quaint stone built houses and the fact that you can be in the centre of an urban area and yet only 5 minutes from some beautiful green and open spaces because of the geography and geology of the area.
What makes this Cottage unique
Upper Hagg Cottage is a reflection of the juxtaposition of proximity of town and rural location in microcosm. A cottage that reflects a 300 year old heritage with exposed beams and millstone grit stonework with 21st C facilities of gas central heating, underfloor electric heating, two Grohe equipped wet-rooms along with a suspended staircase and excellent furnishings. You will love it too.

Amazing place & stay
We stayed here for a week and wow just wow. The cottage was amazing, very spacious and layout perfectly with everything high spec. Felt like a real home from home with the added bonus of a forever changing amazing view all round you. On arrival thanks to Barbs & Drew we had everything we could have needed until the following morning. Even right down to making sure we had one nights worth of wood for the cooler nights in front of the log burner. The cottage was easy to find and to access. Everyone on the farm whom we saw and in the other cottages were really friendly & lovely. Would highly recommend this stay & place to anyone whom was thinking about going. We will be back to stay again in the future.
Thank you both for a amazing & unforgettable stay
A beautiful, exquisite character cottage done with the best of everything - fitments, decor and taste. Gives a feeling of well-being and we're hoping it won't be too long before we can have another wonderful weekend there!
Great location, great cottage.
This cottage has been finished to a high standard, with lots of very thoughtful touches. It is also very well furnished and equipped - the printer and WiFi were both much appreciated, as was all of the kitchen equipment.
Although the cottage is very convenient for access to Holmfirth, New Mill, Huddersfield and the Peak District in general, it is in a very quiet and peaceful rural setting.
We really enjoyed our stay and will be back next year!
Thankyou for yoiur kind response. We l;ove staying at the cottagfe ourselves as it exudes a peaceful atmosphere as if it were far from any urban population whilst being in easy reach of most of Norther England. Thanks again.
super cottage. Some really well thought out space saving ideas with attention to design. v clean &
Very welcoming cottage. Loved the quirky design & the location suited us well. Nice walk over to Holmfirth with some lovely shops & places to eat/drink. Also enjoyed just reading by the fire & lazy breakfasts in the kitchen diner.Could easily have stayed longer
Cosy, quaint, tasteful & stylish, very comfortable bed, stayed for four weeks, bliss!
Extremely thoughtful touches and great care taken to provide essentials for everyday needs.
Thankyou for your kind words. Whilst we mainly operate Upper Hagg Cottage as a Holiday let, we love nothing more than spending time there, admiring the scenery, enjoying walks and spending cosy evenings in front of a roaring log fired stove. As you say... bliss!
For the 4 nights we were there the accommodation was more than adequate
We spent 4 nights visiting various Yorkshire places including the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Howath and the mining museum all of which required best part of a day, we also found time to visit Holmfirth, which is just a couple of miles away, home to Last of the Summer Wine television series including the graveyard where Bill Owen and Peter Sallis are buried next to each other,
The iconic Tour de France passed by (within 800 metres) in 2014. The local area featured in the long running 'Last of the Summer Wine' series and Holmfirth was, for many years, the home of saucy seaside postcard publishers 'Bamforths'. A pub on the Woodhead Rd still carries the name, "The Postcard".
Holmfirth has some amazing nooks and crannies with cobbled streets to explore. Other 'must see' locations include Castle Hill (Huddersfield), Saltaire village (Bradford) and the Halifax 'Piece Hall'.
