Lots of charm!

  • 5 of 5

The coach house was amazing. The atmosphere and surroundings made us feel like we were in old Ireland. The location is perfect for lots of sight seeing and close to Kilkenney City. It is a couple hour drive to Waterford and to the Rock of Cashel, which is a must. The house was perfect for our family and the wood burning fireplace was cozy and warmed the house quickly. Our daughter loved feeding the hens and rooster. Mark and Margaret were so nice and welcoming. This is a wonderful place to stay.

Peace and quiet !

  • 5 of 5

Came over from CA USA and met my mother at Dublin airport she stays in the UK, myself my wife and mother drove from Dublin to Inistioge a little town in the country of Ireland, after searching around for address we found a local who knew Mark he was very kind to call Mark and give him our location , Margaret came by and we followed her to rental, a little tip would be to put a sign at your entrance to home as you can easily pass it on the road !, Margaret and Mark where extremely welcoming and helped us settle in showing us heating etc, they even started the log fire up and that was so nice as it was a very cold night, the home is great with all the amenities you will need to cook , you can watch TV play games etc when staying home if you like. We mostly visited Thomastown for coffee and lunch its only 5 to 10 min drive if you want to venture further there is Kilkenny which is only like 25 mins from home, they have much more in there as its a small city, great shopping malls ,restaurants , movie halls , we where all so relaxed after the visit a huge change from the stress of big city living in the US !, All in all fab time, great hosts , lovely countryside ,fantastic people in Ireland , will sure miss it .

A perfect Irish cottage experience

  • 5 of 5

The photos of this property peaked my interest and upon our arrival to the The Coach House, we could not have been more thrilled. This is a quintessential Irish experience. ( Translation: If I were in the film industry looking for an Irish cottage set, this is it ) The property is located just outside of a small village with the larger bustling town of Kilkenny (fun pubs and dining) which is about a 20 minute drive away. The cottage has plenty of space for 5 people with a large size bed downstairs and sleeps 3 (a full size bed and a twin) comfortably in the loft. All of the bedding and linens are fresh and cozy. Although it was once a coach house, (barn) it has been brilliantly renovated to include all of the modern comforts with tv, wi fi, fully stocked kitchen and washer dryer. (read the washer and dryer manual if you are not from Europe) Also included in the renovation was a central heating system but we preferred the wood burning stove/fireplace which due to the owners impeccable attention to detail, was already prepared and ready for us to light. We had planned to go out to dinner during our stay, but our adult daughters who we traveled with were having such a great time drinking tea, sitting in the authentic chairs by the fire and enjoying the resident chickens (only 3) that we decided to make dinner. ( tip: do a grocery shop in Kilkenny before your arrival) We are a very active family but this is the type of lodging that staying in is as special of an experience as exploring the countryside. The original stone walls, wood floors and decor exudes warmth but also the cottage is immaculately clean. The surrounding views are lovely and the property is very private, but our delightful hosts were in their home next door if we needed anything. If you do book this property, plan to arrive in daylight as you will need to identify the "farm implements" that mark the discreet driveway off the road.Once you know where the property is, it is easy to come and go but if you find it as charming as we did, it is hard to leave. As an avid traveler I can confidently say that St Columba's Coach House is a true gem.

Inistioge village is located beside the river Nore in the South East of Ireland. The village has a number of pubs and restaurants to choose from. Either side of the village you can take easy walks along the river bank in peaceful countryside. Above the village is the Woodstock demense and House whose gardens have been restored to their former glory, which at one time were considered one of the great gardens of Ireland.

In Thomastown (7Kms) there is the famous Jerpoint Abbey and in Kilkenny (15kms) there is the Castle and Rothe house and a number of churches and Cathedrals.Waterford (44Kms) is only 40mins drive away where there is a museum of local history and buildings of historical interest.

Inistioge is centrally located for easy access to the south coast and sandy beaches and all major towns in the area.
