About this property

4 Star Luxury Romantic Break - The Pavilion at Brunger House (Dog Friendly)

Book now for a relaxing stay in this luxury self-catering cottage for two people set within the stunning grounds of Brunger House (c1540), overlooking the tennis court. Tastefully decorated, the Pavilion offers open-plan living with a fully fitted kitchen, dining area with log burner for cosy winter evenings snuggled up on the luxurious sofa, living area, bedroom with french door opening onto a pretty patio and shower room. The front double doors open onto a delightful veranda that benefits from all day sun in the summer.

A fully fitted kitchen with dining area and selection of games and digital TV will enable guests to relax as well as enjoy the beautiful grounds.

There is ample parking at Brunger House. One well behaved Dog allowed but must be kept on a lead in the garden due to the pet ducks (who don't fly). Lovely walks start just across the road from the house.

With French furniture, ornate mirrors, designer soft furnishings and white plantation shutters, The Pavilion provides the perfect place for a romantic break. Located a good distance from the main house to ensure privacy but near enough should guests require any assistance. Guests have full use of the beautiful gardens, including a parterre with roses, a fountain, natural pond and tennis court. For those animal lovers, guests can interact with Marmite, our hand-reared Indian Runner Ducks and his friends, or Snoopy the Border Terrier. It's not uncommon in the Spring/Summer to see ducklings waddling around the garden too.

Tenterden with its charming tree lined main street, traditional white clad buildings and independent shops is only a 15-20 minute walk from Brunger House. The town offers a range of country pubs, restaurants, quaint tea rooms, as well as The Kent & East Sussex Steam Railway where you can take a trip to Bodiam Castle, or take a tour around The Old Dairy Brewery or Chapel Down Vineyard, with its award winning wines.

The Pavilion is also perfectly located as a base for exploring Kent & East Sussex. The nearest Coastline is only 10 miles from Tenterden. Tenterden is a perfect base for exploring quaint Kentish & East Sussex villages & towns, visiting some of the many National Trust Houses & Gardens, experiencing or wine or cider tasting at one of the local Vineyards. There are some lovely walks and cycle routes around Tenterden for those guests who enjoy the outdoors.

For guests with an interest in old houses, the hosts would be happy to provide a tour of the main house. Two rooms are also available in the main house (excluding Christmas) to accommodate larger groups, or for couples with children, we can offer a camping experience for children, with a tent erected by The Pavilion.

Facilities: TV, dishwasher, sink, four ring electric hob & oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, Wifi, BBQ, sun loungers, garden table and chairs, white bed linen, white towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap, sponge, hand soap and shower gel.

Welcome pack included.

Why they chose this property

Brunger House is Grade 2 Listed and was built in c1540. It is of historic interest. Brunger House was formerly known as Brungar Farmhouse and features in the book ‘Timber & Brick Building in Kent’ by Kenneth Gravett (1971); “Crow-Stepped gables are found on a group of buildings in Tenterden, all dated by Lloyd to the period 1530-1540, although it is possible thy are a little later. Brungar Farm is entirely in brick with one stepped gable, moulded brick windows and a different gable to the porch. Although the brickwork is, correctly English Bond, the windows have been altered along the front and it is possible that this house was once partly timber-framed like Bax Farm, or even an earlier timbered house reconstructed”. It is rumored that Brunger was once a Dower House to Hales Place, Tenterden. The Master Bedroom has a piece of original plaster that has been framed with artwork detailing the initials EH, dated 1615 which is a reference to Edward Hales, son of John Hales, MP & Baron of the Exchequer.

We moved to Tenterden in January 2013 after Jo fell in love with the house & garden. Jo’s Mum, Pat and her Border Terrier Snoopy live in Brunger Cottage, just a few meters away from the main house. Since moving here, the Cottage has been renovated & we are just starting to make some internal improvements to the main house. This will provide further accommodation options for our guests in the future.

The original Wisteria covered Pavilion was a charming addition to Brunger House but was not suitable for renovation to a holiday let. We are confident that the new Pavilion will look just as quaint as it ages over the years and the Wisteria starts to grow again.
