A short distance away the perennially popular village of Chagford has independent shops, pubs and restaurants, an outdoor river-fed swimming pool (open from late May to early September) and a cricket club and recreation ground.

Chagford is known for its culture, hosting festivals as well as a running race. 16 miles away is the city of Exeter, worth a visit for its architecture and shopping. Okehampton sits just 12 miles away for a charming day out.
