About this property

Character Cottage in Haworth. Come and Enjoy Yorkshire...Yours To Discover!

"Maple Leaf Cottage" is a traditional stone built terraced Victorian house circa 1890. A few minutes walk from the historic and attractive village of Haworth West Yorkshire. This was the home village of the famous Bronte Family. The three sisters, one brother and father lived at the Parsonage and created many literary classics. Haworth's cobbled Main Street is lined with many charming individual shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants. At the end of the street is the Bronte Parsonage Museum, Haworth Church and Haworth Visitor Information Centre. Maple Leaf Cottage is also situated near Pennistone Hill, where there is a terrific circular walk just out of the front door where you can soak up the natural beauty of the surrounding countryside.

"Maple Leaf Cottage" has 1 single and 2 double bedrooms on the first floor. It can sleep five people. The main double bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with a shower, toilet and wash basin. The second double bedroom, is adjacent to the first floor main bathroom which has a slipper bath with hand shower, toilet and wash basin. The character timber-beamed kitchen with Yorkshire flag stone floors is fully equipped. The cozy sitting room has 2 large double sofas and 1arm chair with a stone fireplace and a gas fired wood stove for your added comfort. To the rear through the stable door out of the kitchen is a small attractive private garden with a table and 4 chairs. A quiet recluse after a day of hiking the area.

Amenities: Gas central heating, gas wood stove fireplace, Rangemaster Gas oven, microwave, Smeg fridge/freezer, washing machine, 47" LDC tv with "FreeSat" satellite connection, Sky Box so bring your Sky card, DVD player & selection of DVD's, cd/radio, WiFi. Fuel and power included. Bed linen and towels included. Parking on the street in front of house, is usually not an issue.
We purchased the property in August of 2017 and have made many improvements. The en-suite has been upgraded. The bedrooms have all new mattresses, linens and towels. The lounge has been redecorated with all new sofas and furnishings. The fireplace with a gas fired stove has been renovated with new tiles to give that extra cozy feel. The floor coverings have been restored and replaced as needed. The house has a new gas fired combi- boiler for intant heat and hot water.

Haworth hosts many themed weekends throughout the year. The hugely popular 1940's weekend on May 18 - 21 is quite the spectacle, with all the shops and people dressed in the 1940's war period. There is also a 1960's weekend. Steampunk weekend, followed by "Hawortheen" at the end of October. Christmas is like walking into a scene from "A Christmas Carol", with "Scrogging the Holly" and the Torchlight Procession.
The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway steam train stops in Haworth. It has numerous special weekends and events during the year. A sure hit with the young and old alike.
The Yorkshire Dales National Park is a short 15 minute drive to the North. Skipton is a must visit, called "The Gateway To The Dales" and is a true gem with the castle, locks, daily market, interesting shops, pubs. This is one of our favourite towns in Yorkshire. Further to the East is Whitby and Scarborough. Other cities, towns and villages to visit are York, Halifax, Saltaire, Harrogate, Hebden Bridge, Ilkley, Settle - just a few of the many places to enjoy. There are countless other small villages to the North and in the Dales to explore..

Wonderful Spot!
We had a wonderful stay in Hayworth and a cozy time in Maple Leaf Cottage. Our first few days had icy and cold weather but the gas fireplace kept us warm. Communication with Colin went well. We appreciate being able to share in their Hayworth home!

Enjoyed our visit
As a family of four, 2 adults and 2 teens, we enjoyed our visit to Haworth, and Maple Cottage was perfect for us. It had all that we needed and was a very short walk to Main Street. The owner was helpful and easy to communicate with.

About the host

My wife and I have lived in Canada for 40 years, but were born and bred just east of Manchester and we both grew up on farms. We are now retired and decided to come back to our roots to buy a little of "God's Country". We have travelled a great deal and always come back to Yorkshire and the Haworth area. Perfectly situated to visit Yorkshire, the Dales and the Lake District. Our vision was to make this our bolt hole for 5 or 6 weeks a year, then the rest of the time we would let it out.
After buying in June 2017 we came back to the house in Oct/Nov for 4 weeks to upgrade and improve the house to make it feel every bit like "home away from home." My wife Pam said we have never worked so hard on 'getting the place right." We had a dead line of 4 weeks and with the help of a local home improvement contractor we managed it just in time!!
Pam loves the local history and natural beauty of the area and has loads of information about West Yorkshire and the Dales. She has found many fabulous dining establishments...I think we have taste tested each every place there is to try. From pub grub, high teas, fine dining down to the best farm shops in the area! This will save you lots of time on your first visit!

Why they chose this property

It is siutated perfectly for exploring all the local history and beauty of Haworth. Through-out the year there is always a special event going on in Haworth. From the 1940's weekend to "Hawortheen" in October to the best Christmas decorated street.. something out of a Dickens novel! Then discover the rest of Yorkshire, the largest county... and some say the best in England! Going north to The Dales, East to Scarbourough and Whitby on the coast, or west and you are soon in the Lake District. All make many perfect days out as you discover Yorkshire.

What makes this property unique

We bought this property because it is situated perfectly in Yorkshire to visit all the sites in our favourite part of England. We wanted to be in an area with lots of interesting history and heritage to explore. Every trip out will bring new adventures and new friends alike. The locals are so helpful and kind and they always have a funny tale to tell!
We love history. Pam is currently writing a book about our 192 year old house in Canada. When we bought this house, the history and the area fascinated us. There are so many places to visit locally that made Britain famous during the Industrial Revolution. From the cotton mills, canals for transport to the building of towns like Saltaire. The counties agricultural history is vibrant and is preserved in the many museums and stately homes. To sample the Yorkshire food traditions try some of the many excellent pubs and restaurants.
The scenery is breathtaking! With a multitude of foot paths and hiking trails, you can enjoy the changing seasons in the countryside.
