Why Owner chose Birkenhead
A secluded and romantic setting for your holiday, the cottage is also within easy reach of delightful Oxton Village which offers a choice of shops pubs and excellent restaurants - including the Michelin starred Fraiche (prior booking essential). In the living room there is a large and comfortable couch to curl up on as well as a log burning stove, high speed broadband and Sky TV. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals. There are two bedrooms with plenty of storage space for cases and clothes and with a verandah with table and chairs off the master bedroom. Away from the cottage, the Wirral offers a wealth of beautiful places for the whole family to walk and enjoy from historic Birkenhead Park, to country parks and coastline. All within easy reach. Great for walking the dog. Further afield, by car, public transport or the famous Mersey Ferries, guests will easily find the attractions of Liverpool’s waterfront, shops and museums. The cottage is comfortable, cosy and private. We think it is the ideal location for a quiet romantic getaway or as a base for the family to explore the Wirral countryside and the attractions and shops of Liverpool.

Quaint and cosy cottage
Good value for the price paid. Slightly tired accommodation including general demeanour of kitchen /bathroom. This did not impact on our short stay.
Cottage with a Hot Tub
Stayed for 4 nights (26th Sept), just the two of us. Used as a base as we were attending a wedding nearby and wanted to see a little of the Wirral and Liverpool. The cottage was very comfortable and had everything you'd need for a stay, with added benefit of a Hot Tub. The balcony off the main bedroom was a nice surprise as it gives afternoon / evening sunshine (for sun-downers), if the weather co-operates.
The parking situation is a slight problem (although Louis does point this out in the description), but this was overcome by parking on the main road, after unloading. I didn't want to 'pinch' local residents spots and it's only a very short walk.
The Queens Arms at the end of the lane is decent with a wide variety of food.
Local minicabs varied a bit in their prices and eventually used Uber.
We really enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
We loved the place, it came with a jacuzzi which was nice!!! The place was very spacious and cozy!
Renting was easy and they were very understanding when I requested an additional day stay because I made a mistake booking the dates!!! Thank you!!
Thank you Jeanine - glad we were able to help. Hope you enjoyed your trip to Italy too.
Cute cottage in convenient location.
We enjoyed our stay and it was very handy for pubs and lovely restaurants. The cottage was well equipped and comfortable.
Lovely cottage contained everything we could need. Wouldn’t hesitate to return.
Absolutely fantastic cottage and owners
Oxton, where Sophies Retreat is situated is on the Wirral peninsula which is surrounded by water, the rivers Dee and Mersey to the South and North and the sea to the west. There are sailing clubs and a boating lake to the west in Hoylake and West Kirby.
We have several excellent golf clubs including the Royal Liverpool at Hoylake.
Wirral is blessed with many great areas for walks. Just around the corner is The ARno and Oxton Fields for local dog walking. Other places to walk are Royden Country Park, Dibbinsdale Nature Reserve and the historic Birkenhead Park (where there is also a children's playground) as well as several parts of the shore.
Liverpool is easily accessible by ferry, train, bus or car where there are many attractions and good shopping.
