Photos and Description of this Mullinahone holiday castle

Killaghy Castle is a self-catering accommodation, sleeping up to 25 people

The castle has been owned by numerous families over the years. The present owners are Pat and Maria Collins who bought the property in 1995. The family have spent several years renovating the Castle to ensure that it offers tourists a totally relaxing and tranquil break. It was their priority to adopt a sensitive approach to the restoration project, ensuring that the Castle retained its historic feel while providing all modern conveniences. It has many period features, ornate cornices, high ceilings of 14 foot and large rooms with marble fire places. Guests comment they had the best night sleep ever in the large bedrooms. The family currently farm extensively on the estate.

Killaghy Castle is situated 300 yards from the village of Mullinahone, Co. Tipperary, and is ideally located for touring the South East of Ireland. The property has beautiful views and is perfect for a relaxing or active break. We accommodate a total of 23 people. We also accommodate smaller groups as the castle can be divided and both fully equipped. The castle is a perfect venue for family gatherings, reunions, celebrations, wedding parties, and golf outings. It is located centrally in Ireland making it a perfect base for taking day trips to the magnificent visitor attractions of Ireland.

Each bedroom is unique in decor with its old world charm and every modern conviences you could require. There are sleeping places for 24 people. The website prices quoted are for two guests. There is a minimum stay for two nights. The weekly and weekend rate depends on the number of people staying. Please e-mail us for a definate quote.

The castle is situated centrally in Ireland making it accessible to many airports and the magnificent and historic sights of Ireland.

Gardens: Killaghy castle is set in a mature 240 acre estate. Poets come to visit for the Kickham festival held annually in August. Poetry reading takes place at this time in the walled garden of the property, and is a real delight to experience for Killaghy castle residents.

A large terrace area equipped with seating is perfect for BBQs during the Summer months. Two tennis courts and childrens playground are located at the entrance to the castle, ideal for guests who like to exercise during their stay.

The castle was great for a family vacation.

  • 5 of 5

We had our family of 12 for a week stay at Killaghy castle. The castle had great rooms and the kitchen was will stocked and very well equipped.

The castle grounds were just beautiful and well kept. We had food catering service and they were wonderful.

After our days of sight seeing we walked to town and went to one of the local pubs for a couple of pints of Guinness.

Maria was great, the castle was clean and the accommodations were wonderful. Very memorable, once in a lifetime experience.

If we return to Ireland we would stay again.

Thanks again, Bill & Marilyn, Oregon, USA

For a Family of 15

  • 4 of 5

We brought our 12 natural born children, along with our son-in-law, from the US to Ireland for the first time. It was amazing!! We stayed in Killaghy Castle for the second half of our trip, and took in Kilkenny and a day trip to Dublin. The younger kiddos didn't ever care to leave, asking to visit the playground daily. It was such fun! The rooms more than accommodated our group and the kitchen was very well equipped. Aldi grocery store was less than a 15 minute drive, and we visited it almost daily.

The only draw backs were the small washer and no dryer available in the main house. We did actually have fun taking the wet laundry out back to the long lines to dry, but getting the clothes in ahead of a shower proved challenging. We ended up hanging clothes all over the castle to dry. Lol And, though the beds were super clean and lush, the showers were very small. We found the house itself a little dusty with dust balls falling to the floor as we opened and closed the luxurious long drapes over the wood framed windows that you'll want to keep open, at least in summer. Very romantic all in all! Maria was very attentive and extremely amiable. We enjoyed her hospitality. Thank you!

A Memorable Stay

  • 5 of 5

I am a grandfather who brought my children and grandchildren to Killaghy Castle for a 14 day family reunion. The website does not do the place justice. There is such history attached to this castle going back to the 15th and 16th century with original features still intact. I felt privileged to have chosen such a place to stay and be master of the house. I want to thank Maria and Pat for allowing our family to stay in their home for a memorable once in a lifetime unique holiday experience.

Stress free weekend.

  • 5 of 5

We had a family gathering and spent a long weekend at Killaghy Castle. Pat and Marie were most welcoming and obliging during our stay. The open fire was lighting and the place was cosy and welcoming on arrival. It is secluded in it's location with a mile long avenue perfect for taking short strolls and was safe for our children playing without fear of passing cars. The playground at the entrance gate was well equipped and the children relished their visits there. (Even the exercise stations were used by some of our group!) we came away relaxed and refreshed. We will certainly be returning.

Highly recommended for families and groups.

  • 5 of 5

The castle's central location was ideal for an amazing tour of Ireland. The accommodation and grounds were superb. There was so much space to move around so we never felt crowded. The extra large catering kitchen came equipped with everything we needed. We would love to go back to Killaghy in the future.
