About this property

Our house in the middle of the street

Our house has recently gone through a complete transformation and yet maintaining all original features. Recently refurbished to high standard, our house now has the "Waouh" factor and you will enjoy a great stay not only in the house, but also enjoying the views to the harbour and the cathedral. In the early mornings and late afternoons , you can enjoy the liners arriving and departing from the port below, while you enjoy your morning coffee or in the evening perhaps a glass of wine.
Situated in the middle of this picturesque street, West View, is one of the 23 houses built in the late 1850's and designed by Queen Victoria's Architect.
The house is on 3 levels and features:
- 4 bedrooms including one on the ground floor;
- Two traditional style bathrooms with a stand-alone bath, a separate shower, a wash basin and toilets;
- A very spacious and full of light modern kitchen with a large table;
- A separate dining room/ living-room;
- A downstairs shower-room with wash-basin, shower and toilets;
The house has everything you wish for a relaxing stay and has all the equipment to make your stay even more comfortable: tea & coffee provided washing machine, bed linen and towels, and high speed WiFi.

Spending 4-5 nights or a full week in the house is ideal as not only will you enjoy fully the house and relax there, but also you will make the most of what Cobh and the area has to offer to you. You can easily spend one day in Cobh, visiting the Cathedral, the Heritage Centre, the Titanic Museum and walking the Titanic trail. On another day, you can visit Cork city, just 25mn away by train (the train station is situated less than 10mn walk from the house), or in Fota Island (The Gardens, the Zoo or a day at the golf!). From Cobh, you can also have day-trips to Ballycotton (walking along the cliffs, visiting the Stephen Pearce Pottery (and having a nice piece of cake from their cafe), visiting the Jameson factory in Midleton, kissing the Blarney stone in Blarney Castle, and you can also in a day drive to Killarney and come back to the house!

There is so much to do in the area, and don’t forget to enjoy the great food and atmosphere in the local restaurants, and of course enjoying a nice pint in one of the local pubs!

Great location
This house was perfect for our group of 7. We had plenty of room and all slept comfortably. The location was perfect and central to all that Cobh has to offer.

Staying in an historic home in Cobh made the stay extra special. A beautiful view of St. Colman through the window. Very spacious. Loved the house. Loved the town. Listing as described.

Good, but…
First things first, the location of this house simply cannot be beat. On the famous & much-photographed street in Cobh, you’re a short walk from everything you could want to do in this lovely town. There are wonderful views of the cathedral from several rooms, & even a glimpse of the sea from the very top room. It’s hard to imagine a better spot to have as a home base. Now then, all of that being said, one should temper one’s expectations when it comes to aesthetics. It is, in a word, rough. I write this as a great lover of old houses and owner of one myself. It has not been completely renovated as the description states. But beyond that, it’s just not a very inviting or comfortable place to be. Nothing on the walls, crates for furniture, safety pinned curtains, staples sticking out of the carpet on the stairs, a broken toilet seat, unstable tub, & so on. One of the “bedrooms” is actually the front/living room, separated from the TV area by a curtain, rendering the ground floor a no-go zone if someone is sleeping there and leaving much to be desired in the way of privacy for that person. There was a single hand towel & a single kitchen towel, nothing to wash dishes with. Overall, it felt like it need a deep cleaning, a thorough scrub to remove all of the many scuffs on the walls, & perhaps a fresh paint job with attention paid to the details. It’s a wonderful old place in a dazzling location, just in need of a fair bit of TLC. Stay here, just know what you’re getting into

Why they chose this property

We have put a lot of energy and heart in the renovation of this property. We have tried to keep a great balance between the traditional features (fireplaces, high ceilings, architraves, original timber floor) and modern living. We are especially proud of the bathroom with its stand-alone bath, the kitchen with the velux and modern equipment!
We hope you will enjoy it too!

What makes this property unique

We believe the combination of original features and modern design is what makes the house unique. Indeed, because it is in the middle of the hill, you get a lot of sunlight, and you have a great views of the Harbour and of the Cathedral from nearly every windows!
