There are many beautiful walks along quiet rural lanes on which to enjoy the summer fields of beautiful Sunflowers, or wild flowers in the Spring. There are numerous, picturesque cycle routes around the locality and quiet lanes on which to cycle and enjoy the rural countryside, which surrounds us. These are suitable for novice through to experienced cyclists - something for everyone.
It is a 5km drive to our nearest town of Civray, which has a market on a Tuesday and Friday morning and we are just 3kms away from two supermarkets, Super U and Lidl. There is an Intermarché and Aldi in Savigné an a Leclerc in Ruffec.
If you enjoy fresh pastries for breakfast, there are three boulangeries within a short drive, at Civray, Savigné and Charroux. There is also an excellent café in Charroux for breakfast or lunch and pub style meals offered at The Green Man in Charroux.
O’City Ven in Civray offers a fabulous lunch and dinner menu.
There are some excellent restaurants in the area; our favourite for lunch is Le Moulin de Verteuil in Verteuil-sur-Charente, where you can also see the beautiful Verteuil Chateau (The gardens are occasionally open to the public.) Also in Verteuil is the restaurant Porte Bleu, which serves wonderful food at reasonable prices.
Nanteuil-en-Vallee has two excellent restaurants: Auberge de l'Argentor and Auberge le Saint Jean, although it is advisable to make a reservation.
There are many picturesque places to visit: Confolens on the River Vienne is beautiful, a great place to visit the market, shops and restaurants. In August they have a weeklong International Dance Festival - you will be able to see parades in the streets and watch some of the numerous demonstrations and concerts.
If you enjoy seeing Monkeys in a natural setting, then Vallée des Singes is the perfect place to visit. You will have a great view of Gorillas, Chimpanzees, Bonobos and other monkeys, also there are children’s play areas, as well as a small petting area - with many Pygmy Goats! Beautiful barn conversion
We had a lovely relaxing week staying at Wibbles Retreat. Property finished to a very high standard. We didn't get to meet Sandie as she was away but Rob was an excellent host and helpful with advice for places to visit. Visited a number of local villages which were nice to wander around and there plenty of other places within an hour's drive. Highly recommend this property
