1 Bedroom 2 Bath with large covered deck
About Heidi Hatcher
With help from friends and family (mostly my dad!), I built my cabin in 2009/2010. Upon completion, I moved to Alaska to pursue a career as a wildlife biologist. I love returning to my cabin annually to visit my family, but it's a shame to let it sit empty for the rest of the year!
Why Heidi Hatcher chose Dobson
Nestled on a hill, just a short walk from a stunning view of the Fisher Valley, this cabin has everything. Watch for deer in the fields and woods surrounding the cabin, take a walk along the ridgetop to get away from the world, walk across the covered bridge to a small pond, or follow the dirt road a few hundred yards down to the stocked waters of the Fisher River. Venture a little further (20-30 minute drive) to discover Stone Mountain State Park, Pilot Mountain State Park, or the Blue Ridge Parkway!
What makes this Cabin unique
A lot of sweat, blood, and tears went into the construction of Heidi's cabin! Every detail is hand-picked and every board was painstakingly placed by me, my dad, or one of our friends or family members that volunteered their time and effort to help us finish the cabin. That being said, the house has its quirks! I have a list of quirks to work on each time I go home, including the back deck lights not always cooperating!

Perfect place for an "unplugged" getaway...
... but you can get a cell signal at the top of the hill in front of the cabin.
Get away from everything
Heidi's Cabin allows you to get away from everything. If you can't live without TV, WiFi, Cell Phones, etc, you shouldn't stay here. The description clearly tells you there is no service at the cabin. We loved it. The cabin is beautiful inside and out. There were a couple of cobwebs inside and some spiders outside. No big deal when you see where this place is located.
Make sure to arrive before dark on your first arrival. GPS led us straight to the driveway but we were uncertain about going up it until we rode away and the GPS led us straight back to the same little gravel driveway. No problem after the first time there. Their description is very accurate. This is a secluded getaway. Was hoping to see some deer but didn't. Maybe next time. I'd recommend this for a couple wanting to get away from everything. If you have children they need to be able to watch movies or play board games, etc. Remember, no wifi.
This is the first vacation my family has had without cell phone and TV connections. It was nice and quiet. Very private and peaceful. The cabin is beautiful and very well equipped. I recommend eating at Sue's Kitchen and The Depot Resturant at Cody Creek. Both places are wonderful and the people were so friendly. I highly recommend Heidi's Cabin.
Even though we had planned this trip for just my husband and I, plans changed at the last minute and we ended up taking the kids and dog. Communication with the owner was easy and she responded quite quickly and with understanding. Adding the dog and kids to the trip was easy and we all had a great time!
The only thing we would have liked better was if we could have found the stream that was in the pictures. We had planned to go fishing but couldn't find the stream.
An Absolute Gem !
From the inside to the outside. This place has everything you could want in a getaway. First... there is no "wi-fi' which is perfect! Put the computer or phone down and soak in everything this place has to offer. There is cell service 100ft up the hill if you need that. There is a real short walk to the river and kayaks were available. Smallmouth Bass and stocked trout(when in season) call this home. Have a seat on the back porch which is surrounded by trees. Great place to listen to the birds, cool off out of the sun or just plain RELAX. Inside there are a treasure trove of fun things to look at and there is a DVD player as well with a whole bunch of movies for your entertainment. Just a short distance from Pilot Mountain and Mayberry(Mt. Airy) .This town is has everything you need and a salute to "Andy Griffith" and his show. Pilot Mountain was gorgeous. Plenty of trails from the easy to the avid hiker. Our visit to this area was only a few days but have a lifetime of memories !Thank you for having us , we will be back. This cabin was one not to be judged by the cover. The inside was nice and comfortable. However, the vegetation was overgrown. Poison oak, ivy and sumac were abundant as well as yellow jackets. There was no connectivity. Overall, it was nice but needs some touch ups especially on the grounds.
Short drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Stone Mountain State Park, Pilot Mountain State Park, or Mayberry! Surrounded by excellent vineyards (wine tastings galore!), or visit the nearby Skull Camp Brewery!
