Generously Appointed, Quirky with a Turret & view at the brim of the Witches hat
Diane & Marc are a Mother and Son team who enjoy hosting guests. We have welcomed visitors to Oxford for many years, initially we hosted students in our own home and then for a number of years we ran a very busy Guesthouse. With a long family tradition in hospitality we hope our experience will provide guests with a professional feel and an enjoyable stay. Cleanliness and Comfort are our first priority. We like to add some defining touches and include those little things a visitor may forget to bring with them. When travelling, often time is short, we provide the information, basics and comfort so guests may maximise their time spent in Oxford for sightseeing, business and relaxation. Both of us have a passion for cooking, I enjoy traveling, being outdoors, City breaks and I have an ongoing love affair with Iceland that has resulted in many return trips for more adventures and fun. Diane is an animal lover and spends a lot of time in Greece. As previously mentioned years ago Diane often let out a room in our home to students. We had a lot of fun meeting people from many different cultures, it is a huge privilege for us both to be able to continue welcoming visitors to Oxford.
Why Marc chose Oxford
Firstly the location is an ideal base to discover Oxford City Centre and the surrounding area. The character and quirkiness of this apartment speak for themselves, positioned right at the top of this unique building this apartment offers a fun feel when sitting right at the top of the turret just at the brim of what some locals refer to as the witches hat. The apartment is conveniently situated for attractions and scenery, such as the Thames, Folly Bridge, Hinksey Park, lake and an open air swimming pool. We have plenty of local amenities nearby including Grocery Stores, a Chemist, Post Office, Pubs & Restaurants.
What makes this Apartment unique
Perhaps the biggest benefit for a guest who chooses one of our places for their trip is the professional service that we are able to provide. Having had many years experience in hospitality and property management we have gained the skills necessary to help meet the needs a visitor has when they are travelling. For example this includes remembering to provide small but essential items such as power adaptors and being available to assist at all times. We prefer to greet our guests at check-in, this allows us to explain all the information a guest will need about the property and Oxford, this also gives a visitor the chance to ask questions and allows for the best possible start to a trip. All of our linens are sourced out to a company and professionally laundered to a hotel standard.
100% refund if cancelled at least 30 days before arrival date. 50% refund if cancelled at least 14 days before arrival date.
Location conveniently located to Oxford City Centre; clean accommodation w/ kitchen and sitting area
Good clean accommodation with kitchenette and sitting area with breakfast nook. The exterior of the house was a bit shabby and the exterior stairs certainly could have benefitted from a sweep of the dead leaves from winter. Kitchen had all the amenities we needed - coffee maker, microwave, toaster, fridge. Shampoo, soap, towels provided, but a blow dryer would have been appreciated. This and the unkept balcony and stairs prevented us from giving it a 5 star rating.
Nice apartment in a strategic location for all things Oxford. Will stay here again!
I’m delighted that you enjoyed your visit and that you’d stay in our place again. Thank you for taking a moment to leave us a 5 star review, it’s much appreciated. Marc.
Cozy and convenient location
This property is in a perfect location to enjoy Oxford. We were able to walk to everything including a relaxing stroll along the Thames. We especially enjoyed our neighborhood gastro-pub, "Home" and the Vegan-friendly "Bap" for breakfast just up the street. The flat was an inviting and cozy place to return to after a day of exploring Oxford, Blenheim Palace and The Cotswolds. We loved the coffe machine, the comfy bed and upscale bath linens. We had everything we needed.
Thank you for taking the time to leave our place such a detailed review we are delighted that you found the apartment cosy and comfortable. Many guests are telling us how good the local gastro pub is, it’s a great addition to the area.
Disappointing first impressions in Oxford
Stayed here for only two nights. Prior communications were always pleasant and owners very helpful.
Upon arriving however the appearance of the building was terrible; building in need of a paint, rusty old external staircase and sleezy passage leading to inside stairs to unit. Not at all welcoming!
The apartment is small but generally clean and well stocked. There are two levels of narrow stairs and so older, less mobile guests beware. Is on a good bus route to city, but can be walked too.
Car parking was provided and proved of benefit. Generally I thought this apartment was way overpriced.
During the 19 months we have let our apartment & after over 200 successful stays no one has ever ‘reviewed’ our apartment so negatively. It’s a pitty you didn’t contact us given your reaction I feel it may have been better if we’d found you another APT & actioned a refund. We advertise accurately, state this is a 52 sq m top floor APT & that it must be accessed via a number of stairs. Because of this our place may not be suitable for the less able & we do not except bookings with babies or children however we do give the information needed for everyone to decide on whether our APT is suitable. I’ve read through your review a few times & note that you do make some positive remarks which I thank you for including. Your positive comments mention cleanliness & that the APT is well stocked & so on. These remarks are inline with the more positive 100 or so online reviews with an average satisfaction rating of over 92% accumulated in 19 Months. I regret that you choose to use the word ‘Sleazy’ I couldn’t understand why you did, so I double checked the exact meaning of the word, I cannot understand what you mean specifically in relation to our lovely apartment, you will be aware that it’s an unpleasant word with a certain connotation. As it literally makes no sense in this context I can only speculate that you calculated the effect using such language might have but it still begs the question, why? This word does not represent our unique Edwardian property. Missing in your review are comments regarding the decor inside, bed & sofa comfort & quality, technology such as the Bean to cup coffee machine, TV, sound bar & Bluetooth digital radio, I mention these because if you combine them with how generously stocked the APT is, the location & character how could you reasonably conclude that the apartment is ‘way’ overpriced. For balance here are comments made by guests who also stayed during September 2018.
‘Really excellent space and host. Would recommend! And will most definitely stay here again when in Oxford!
‘We had good contact from Marc explaining the set up. The apartment is quirky with lots of individual features. It was clean and well furnished with lots of appliances. It also had lots of storage in the bedroom and bathroom.
‘A beautiful home in a great area to explore Oxford. Exceptionally clean and a great refuge after a very long flight. Update April 2019, 60 more successful stays & more highly positive online reviews across platforms.
Charming, cozy apt. within quick walking distance to town center.
Lovely, comfy one-bedroom apt. was truly like a home away from home with charm to spare. After using HomeAway for the past 7 years in the states, this Oxford gem was our first foray abroad and did not disappoint. From the quick, convenient booking process, the easy directions and apt. access and the property itself, we couldn’t have been happier. Considering we booked last minute the night before, Marc was very receptive, pleasant and made everything nice and easy. We loved the unique third floor “Witch’s Hat” turret architecture and cozy layout. Kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, dining ware and everything else needed for a short stay. Plenty of towels and bathroom amenities including a hair dryer which was a bonus. Queen size bed was extremely comfy and a lovely little vanity highlighted the bedroom. Living room is small with a comfy couch to sit and watch tv and is connected to the quirky dining area in the “Witch’s Hat” which overlooks the street. Quick, 15-minute walk to Oxford town center is a plus for exploring the University and enjoying the local pubs, eateries and shops, as well as a 30-minute walk to the train station. Also very easy to catch a local bus along the main road which runs in front of the apt. to the train station or town. Would recommend to other travelers and hope to return in the future!
Cute space with great recommendations
No problems finding or getting into the apartment. Their book of recommendations was wonderful. The apartment was clean and had everything we needed and in a great location. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others.
Hi Victoria, I'm delighted that you had such a good stay in our place, thanks again for staying with us and for taking the time to leave such a nice review. Marc
You can experience all that you would expect in a typical British neighbourhood such as corner shops, pubs, a chemist, chip shop and a post office. Further to this their is a local horse riding school, park with a swimming pool, lake and allotments. Perhaps you will feel that you're in Oxford just by looking out onto the university sports ground or by taking a short walk to the Thames/Isis where you can catch a glimpse of Oxfords historic spires.
