The Swallow Nest offers 1,600+ square feet of freshly updated living space, a backyard with deck, patio, and gas grill, two second-floor decks with mountain views, and off-street parking.

We are located in the heart of downtown Salida, a short walk from everything you need. Wireless internet is available throughout the house. You are going to love it here!

New in 2024: Air conditioning in upstairs bedrooms.

First floor:

Our recently remodeled kitchen is stocked with everything you need to make a great meal and enjoy it in the adjacent dining room or on the patio table in the backyard during warmer months.

In the living room, listen to music or stream your favorite movies on our smart TV (Netflix account provided) while sitting in comfort on our loveseat and sofa set. (The couch pulls out into a queen-sized bed and living room doors close to make a cozy sleeping space.)

A conveniently located downstairs full bath has a corner shower.

Second floor:

Each of the three spacious upstairs bedrooms has a queen bed with a down duvet and plenty of pillows. A large upstairs bath has the original claw foot tub.

Outdoor living spaces:

Pick your perch! We have three outdoor seating areas.

Sit on the covered front porch upstairs and enjoy your morning coffee or watch the children play in Alpine Park, directly across the street. Enjoy that Colorado sun and take in the view of “S” Mountain from our back upstairs deck. Or enjoy a barbecue dinner around the table in the patio in our private backyard.

Great Time in Salida

Our big family has stayed in Salida often and Swallow House exceeded our expectations! Its prime location proved to be perfect for all our needs, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience for everyone. The spacious and well-appointed accommodations left no room for discomfort, providing our family with everything we could possibly require for a memorable stay. Great location, very clean!

We had a wonderful stay- I would give an overall 5 star rating except that Salida can get warm during summer, and there were only 2 fans in property (no AC). The house was extremely hot in the afternoons/evenings when outside temps were 90-94° (it would cool down dramatically overnight, but was hot until after bedtime). The host was very gracious, and ordered 2 more fans to be delivered via Amazon during our stay, which arrived on our next-to-last night. Our only other minor issues were running out of TP, and the entrance was difficult to find in the dark when we arrived. There was construction to an outbuilding at back of property. The keypad instructions were given, but not that we would need to enter through a gate, not what the gate code would be, nor which side of property to find gate (we arrived at night, so was tough to see with insufficient lighting in alley). Otherwise, this is an excellent property and is one of my favorite VRBO rentals thus far!! The bedrooms were spacious, beds & pillows comfortable, bathrooms clean, great kitchen (!!), lovely front stoop/back patio/bedroom balcony. We were within 3-5 min walk to the main shopping & eating area of Salida. Also within walking distance to trails, River activities, and hiking/running trail up the mountain with the big “S.” Love Salida, enjoyed this home very much, will definitely look to rent it again!

Perfect location

We loved this house and the location was perfect. Very spacious for our large family. We really enjoyed reading about the history of the house and the family, and appreciated the beautiful design of this old house. The house is very well stocked with extra bedding, space heaters, lots of kitchen supplies, towels, etc. We had everything we needed. It's a two minute walk to downtown shops and restaurants but it is not loud. About 25 min drive to monarch ski area. We had an awesome time. Thank you!!

Why they chose this property

The Swallow duplex has been in my family for three generations. It was built by my grandfather, Lew Swallow, a local businessman and cattle rancher, in 1909. We have lovingly restored this building to make it the perfect base for your Salida vacation.

What makes this property unique

The Swallow Nest boasts one of the best locations in Salida. Located in the National Historic District, we are across the street from Alpine Park, blocks from downtown and a wonderful bakery, a great deli, many restaurants and galleries. The Arkansas River and trails on S Mountain are five blocks away.
