Janet Hamilton purchased this apartment in 2003

Why Janet Hamilton chose County Down

Simply....the views are second to none! We have travelled the world and stayed in many wonderful places but the view of the mountains and the bay at Dundrum captured our heart. We plan to retire there and can't imagine ourselves ever parting with it! It has been our pleasure to share it with guests from all around the world and many return each year, sometimes twice or three times a year to enjoy it! I think it has captured their heart also!

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is one of only three properties at The Quay which have floor to ceiling corner windows taking in both the views of the Bay and the Mountains. We may be bias but we believe we chose the best spot! It is bright and spacious and as soon as you walk in through the doors, we guarantee you will relax! It is totally calm and peaceful and it wouldn't be hard to lose track of time kicking back and enjoying the ever changing views. We take pride in how we present the apartment for our guests and the furnishings, artwork, bedlinen etc are all of good quality. Believe me, we want you to have a wonderful experience and to enjoy your stay at the apartment as much as we do!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We received these lovely comments on a "thank you" card from our recent guests "Dear Janet, We had a really lovely holiday at your wonderful apartment. It is so comfortable and convenient and we will never forget the views of the bay and mountains. There are so many nice places close to Dundrum and we enjoyed walks at Murlough and around the mountains and the weather was mainly good. Many thanks for everything. Best wishes to you and your family"

Outstanding sea and mountain views and excellent potential if interested in landscape photography.

  • 5 of 5

Plenty of interesting National Trust sites to visit within easy reach. The apartment was excellent (though a personal preference would be for a different sofa; cold leather, very low). Love the bedroom sea views and the main sea views are outstanding.

We had a fabulous time in Northern Ireland . Weather was beautiful, apartment was spacious and well equipped although we only used as a base for travelling round.

I can totally recommend this property which is in a great area with superb views. you can travel by car anywhere in the province in around 2 hours Inc Causeway Coast & castle coole and city airport is approx 40 mins away.

We would definitely stay again.

Owner's Response: David thank you so much for your positive feedback and a very special word of thanks for being our 100th reviewer!!! We are absolutely thrilled and honoured to have received 97 out of 100, 5 star reviews!!! We take great delight when our guests enjoy the apartment as much as we do! We're not perfect and things go wrong from time to time but our many returning guests year on year is a great affirmation that the apartment offers something special. Thanks again!

A lovely short break.

  • 4 of 5

Just returned from a beautiful 5 day break in Dundrum with only 2 hours of rain. The apartment was very spacious and clean with a superb view of the Bay and the Mourne Mountains. The scenery changed every hour.

The kitchen was very well equipped with everything you would require. Beds were very comfortable and well furnished. Bathrooms were also very clean however it was slightly disappointing that it was not possible to have a shower in the main bathroom due to no screen around the bath.

We found the seating in the lounge area uncomfortable however we overcame this by moving a chair from one of the bedrooms. The single chair in the lounge area was very comfortable and had a lovely position overlooking the Mournes!

If these two minor complaints were rectified we would have no problem in giving the property 5 stars.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind comments John. I'm delighted that you enjoyed your stay. As we have a fabulous walk-in shower , we've made a conscious decision not to put up a shower door in the other bathroom as we prefer the lovely ambiance of an open bath and also the practicality it affords for bathing children. It is possible to shower in the bath but I guess just not to stand up! We've always found the sofa super comfy but as you say the higher back armchair and dining chairs offer the perfect alternative. All good for enjoying those great views!

A happy return

  • 5 of 5

We were lucky enough to enjoy a second wonderful stay in Janet's fabulous apartment this bank holiday weekend. It was just as perfect as we remembered and we loved every minute. I can't imagine a more delightful place to relax and enjoy the kind of view which erases all your day-to-day worries in an instant. It's bright, filled with natural light in every room and it has the added attraction of two of the best restaurants we've ever eaten in and a superb cafe within a two minute stroll. Why would anyone look anywhere else in Co Down? We wouldn't. Janet, I hope you'll allow us to visit again and thank you for your thoughtfulness and hospitality. You even secured a hot and sunny Monday for us! What more could we want?

This spacious, luxury 3 bedroom apartment offers stunning, uninterrupted mountain and bay views. This is a superb spot for bird-watching and seal-spotting. There is a beach right at your doorstep and you are a short walk to the nature reserve of Murlough Bay and the ruins of Dundrum castle which offers superb views and is great for picnics. The nearby village contains a supermarket, antique shops, beauty salons and some renowned restaurants. You're in Ireland so there are plenty of pubs within walking distance! A short drive away will take you to the town of Newcastle at the foot of the Mournes and Castlewellan where you have access to any number of outdoor activities, golf, fishing, mountain climbing, canoeing, abseiling, sailing, mountain biking, tennis etc. Newcastle has a heated outdoor swimming pool during the summer months. You are a 30 minute drive to Strangford Lough, 40 minutes to Belfast ,1.5 hrs to the stunning Antrim Coast and Giants Causeway and 2 hours to Dublin.

Golf: Royal County Down is one of the oldest and most renowned Golf Clubs in Ireland with traditions dating back for more than one hundred years. In 2007 the Walker Cup matches were held here. Situated in Newcastle, where in the immortal words of Percy French, 'The Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea', Royal County Down is not only a fine test of golf but has accompanying scenery that is spellbinding. Alongside the Championship Links, Royal County Down has a second course, The Annesley Links. Laid out beneath the same massive, almost menacing backdrop, the Annesley Links is nowhere near as intimidating or as formidable a challenge as the Championship Links, but then it was never intended to be. It is a course for everyone. (Extracts from the official Royal County Down Golf Course website). For further details tel: (028) 4372 3314
