About this property

Open-plan, stunning views, masses of wildlife.

The Space
The Shippen is a detached, light, open-plan barn conversion with a beautifully designed interior. It’s heaven for couples or families (there's a sofa bed and travel cot if you've little ones in tow), and perfect in every season; snuggle up by the the log-burner in winter and barbecue in summer. Walker, cyclist, family and dog friendly, you'll have all the home comforts you need and a great base for outdoor pursuits all year round.

The property has been carefully renovated with exposed beams, oak joinery and flooring, a wood burning stove and central heating, and a stylish, modern interior. There is an oak and glass gable end south-facing decked veranda, overlooking the stunning Linley Valley for heaven-sent views.

A wood burner, central heating, designer decor, super-comfortable King-size bed, double sofa bed, crisp white linen, soft white towels, extra blankets and a well-stocked, contemporary fitted kitchen with breakfast bar ensure home comforts all year-round.

You'll also enjoy the dining table with benches, dining chairs and high chair, a spacious wet room that takes a wheelchair with large basin, WC and under floor heating.

The living area has a corner sofa, smart T.V with FreeSat, Netflix and a PlayStation 3, Bose sound system, books and board games, extra blankets and lots of other extras to make sure you have a lovely, comfortable stay.

Parking
There is a private, flat flagstone entrance and guest parking on a private drive for up to two cars directly outside The Shippen.

The Area
Steeped in peace and quiet, the Shippen is located within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with Sites of Special Scientific Interest very close by, the detached property is surrounded by the most beautiful Shropshire landscape. With miles and miles of beautiful countryside and woodland with stunning views and star-filled night skies, and a brook for paddling at the bottom of the valley, the immediate area is absolutely stunning. It’s ideal for walkers, cyclists, nature lovers and kite flyers or those seeking deep peace and quiet. The Shropshire Way runs alongside the main house. The Stiperstones and the Long Mynd are just a few minutes’ drive away.

There are lots of pretty villages and market towns, castles, woodland and hills to explore. The area is great for bird watching, romantic walks or more challenging hill walking, cycling, riding, golfing, hang gliding, good food, local music, book and arts festivals, houses and gardens.

Stroll the cobbled streets of Bishop’s Castle or the fine buildings of Ludlow and Shrewsbury, enjoy a local pint by the river, hike to the top of the Long Mynd. Then back to board games by the fire, bright starry skies, and owls that hoot you to sleep.

Stunning views
5 star location for this award winning retreat. We spent the Christmas break here and thoroughly enjoyed the location. BUT, so many things not quite right. The 'wardrobe' was not secure as one side collapsed when hanging clothes...which we fixed. There were further maintenance issues but not worth detailing. We felt rationed when it came to logs for the burner as when asked for more were informed that the basket should last three nights, yet paid for everything we used. ( we have lived with a log burner for over 20 years and know how they work and burn) The kitchen is very small and cluttered with appliances, the cupboards are high...so high you need a step ladder to get things from them. (which is provided). The fan oven did not work so left my partner with the challenge of cooking Christmas Dinner in the grill oven. It was a disaster and ruined an expensive organic rib of beef. We left a note for the owner informing of issues when we departed. They offered no apology, infact they made us feel unappreciative for the opportunity to stay at the super location. We have stayed in many amazing properties but this one has passed its peak. Everything needs to be checked and made sure it is in working order prior to the next visitor, this was not done. Note. As it was Christmas day we did not want to disturb our hosts with the problems we were having, and just muddled on (as we do)

Splendid Isolation!
The barn is utterly gorgeous, quality throughout, comfortable, wonderful views. We brought a slightly neurotic dog and she loved the quietness and we loved that even if she barked there was no one around to worry! The owners live next door but are at work during the day. The isolation was perfect for us, but for some a 30 minute trek in the car to a main road could be an issue - arriving at night was an adventure in its own right! The owners could'nt have been more welcoming and friendly. Will definitely be back!

Why they chose this property

The property has been carefully renovated with exposed beams, oak joinery and flooring, a wood burning stove and central heating, and a stylish, modern interior. There is a south-facing oak and glass gable end, overlooking a decked veranda and the stunning Linley Valley for heaven-sent views.

What makes this property unique

It's a pretty special place to be and Shropshire is still a bit of a 'secret', and so completely un-spoilt with a feeling of ancient stillness about it.
