The dining area comfortably sits six people. The large 24 x 8 foot deck spans the rear of the house overlooking the fenced-in yard and the woodlands below. Outdoor spa/hot tub private with deck. A Southern Illinois Cabin Vacation Rental.

Great fenced-in yard for your dog.

We did have a wonderful anniversary and a nice weekend. Our dogs loved the yard. We will be sure to recommend the Alto Guest house for anyone exploring the Shawnee wine trail and Southern Illinois. Thanks again!

Quiet, Relaxing Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Quaint, easy, quiet, convenient...what more can I say? Lovely trees surround the backyard. The owner, Lee, is fantastic...charming, helpful, and generous. The perfect hurricane hole to hide from Irma. Never knew Southern Illinois existed, and now we'll be back! Thank you Lee and Alto Pass.

Not for the picky!

  • 3 of 5

The house is very cute. In the perfect location to the wine trails. Beautiful setting, private & quiet. Could use some much needed drywall & roof repair. The hot tub temp was 80* when we got there, so there was no using it. When we got back, it was warm enough but half the water was gone. My husband has repaired our own many times, so he knew it had a leak. Hot tub was unusable. Stained cover on full bed, carpet could use a cleaning & no ladder for loft. Windows had no screens, we weren't able to keep them open. This has potential for a great property w some TLC. My husband & son-in-law being in construction, we're familiar w this kind of home maintenance. We wouldn't hesitate to book here again. The water was hot & the toilet worked (lol) & we also enjoyed the little kitty who lived outside :)

Owner's Response: The hot tub was in "rest" mode so the temperature was lower. Digital controls can be tricky. Hope your husbands construction company does well. Sorry to be late in responding, we received this on Thanksgiving day when we were with family and friends. Our current visitors have been coming for 8 years twice a year for at least a week each and have no issues.

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property for a weekend full of wineries and we couldn't have been happier. Everything that we needed was provided and you could tell that Lee takes a lot of pride in making sure his guests are taken care of. There was a very strong line of communication leading up to the trip and everything was perfect when we arrived. The location was perfect as it's in a quiet area but still within a short drive to many wineries. We loved sitting around the fire pit in the back yard after grilling on the deck! This property is perfect for anyone looking to get away for a weekend. We are already looking forward to coming back next year!

Great county atmosphere!

  • 4 of 5

This little country home was perfect for our wine trail/ Shawnee Hiking weekend. We were able to bring our 2 fur babies with us. The fenced in back yard was perfect! Lee left bacon, eggs, bread and milk in the fridge for us and plenty of snacks and bottled water, this was such a generous thing to do and we really appreciated it! It was an extremely hot weekend in southern Illinois and Lee had the place all cooled off when we arrived. We didn't use the hot tub due to the heat, so can't really comment on it, but appreciated that is was there for our use if we wanted. I rated 4 stars instead of 5 because the place needs a little TLC. We left a note about the tub not draining well and Lee probably wasn't aware. The queen bed is very uncomfortable and the mattress has a large indent in the center, needs replaced. There are plenty of towels and table service available to us. If we have the chance to visit again, we will certainly consider a repeat stay! I definitely recommend this lovely little county home!

Needs some upkeep

  • 3 of 5

Nice quiet location. Typical old southern Illinois home that has been renovated. Deck around hot tub needs serious repair, railings around the back deck are not sturdy, need repair. Tree in drive needs trimmed, branches rubbed roof of my pickup. Tree in side yard has branches laying on roof of house. Quite a few bugs in the house. It's not nearly as nice as advertised. The location is nice and private which is a plus and the price is reasonable however we will look elsewhere on our next trip to the wine trail.

Owner's Response: Frankly I am so surprised at your comment Elaine. We worked so hard to get your second payment paid and thought we had an open line of communication. Sorry you were disappointed! We were too! Such a mess you left for 2 of you (or was there more than you said?) Trees do grow but we just had them trimmed and the hot tub had a small leak way underneath which has been repaired along with the decking needed to get to it. Looks great!
